Kobe and Shaq had a conversation in 1999 after getting past the 1st round. Kobe: Are u ready? Shaq: For what? Kobe: This boy we're seeing in the next round. Shaq: Robinson? Timmy never really spoke out loud about his work ethic or really anything like Kobe did. So Kobe’s Mamba Mentality gets praised so much when Tim Duncan is over here being a silent assassin. Tim was a player that would also take things personally on the court and dominate them like he did with Demarcus Cousins. KG hated that he could never get in Timmy’s head. What other hall of fame top 10 players favorite thing outside of basketball is Dungeons and Dragons😂 and Tim didn’t even start playing organized basketball until he was 14.

People don't think or forget about Tim Duncan because he was never flashy. He was just straight basketball and I completely agree with Shaq. Ya, the Spurs had Parker and Ginobli, but they needed Tim Duncan to win those championships. Wouldn't be able to do it on there own. Great video, Sean, Duncan was a lot of fun to watch, as odd as that sounds. I remember one play where he was about 10 feet from the hoop and a rebound bounced out to him. He took the ball in the air with one hand and flipped it to Boris Diaw under the rim for an easy 2. It wasn't a spectacular play in the way that we often think of, but it was just soooooo smart, so heads up. It achieved that magical feat of being spectacular without being spectacular. And I remember thinking at the time that Bill Russell probably loved that play more than anyone else who saw it. As for Steve Kerr's statement that Duncan was the best two-way player? Well, if Kerr meant for the bigs, I'd say that Olajuwon and Chamberlain might have something to say about THAT, but Duncan is definitly up there.

I been a Spurs fan since 89 and we always had a pretty good team but in 96 we had our worse season ever. We got Timmy the next year. Im so grateful we got him because he gave me sheer pleasure for dam near 20 years. He was a instant sensation. After we loss to Utah in the playoffs i knew then we was a championship contender and when we won in 1999. Its been a championship mindset every year. Do you know how good that feels to have a team that good for almost 20 years expecting nba title every year? A feeling that i haven't felt in a while now. Usually if your team is ok your just hoping they can make it out the first round or past this team. With the Spurs and Duncan i was expecting nothing less then a nba championship. We got 5 in about 17 years with Duncan. Probably should have won 7 or 8 but hey ill take it. Anyway Duncan will always be the best power forward in my era 😊

I would always ask them, "Do you have any idea what it feels like to be the winningest franchise in the NBA for twenty years? That buys you a lot of loyalty with your fans." @@kevoncoxdirk maybe could’ve, but I don’t think so. Duncan was a 5 tool player, and an unselfish 5 tool player at that. He had incredible defense, rebounding, and played well in pick and roll, played perfectly on the low block, didn’t need the ball in his hands 24/7 to make an impact was a good mid range shooter, could block shots and had an unlimited post bag. He’s criminally underrated, and genuinely I think that no one would’ve been able to replace him I think if you put dirk on that team he would’ve brought more scoring yes but it would’ve taken away shots from Tony Parker, manu and everyone else. Plus dirk wasn’t as impactful on defense as Tim Duncan was. KG was fantastic on defense, and rebounding, but I don’t think he had as deep of a post bag as Duncan did and wasn’t as patient as Duncan was, and I don’t think that spurs system would’ve worked as well with KG there either.

My all-time PF and Center would be Duncan and Olajuwon. They would be interchangeable and they are the two post players that could do it all in any era. Defense, Scoring, Rebounding, foot work, quickness, shooting, etc. The best all-around post players to ever play.

Shaq is so right. I love Manu, respect Tony. But Timmy is a true superstar cuz everything revolved around him with no other superstars on his level. He also covers his team defensively. Lebron feared Tim Duncan. I honestly think he knows TD is a more dominant player than he is

you like so many other GP casual basketball fans take Tim Duncan's greatness for granted...Big Tim was the greatest power forward if all time and he's a top 5 player if all time, and I mean overall game; #1 M.J. #2 Jabbar #3 Kobe #4 Bird #5 Tim Duncan (6/7/8 in no particular order Shaq, LeBron, Barkley)

Kerr also coached Tim Duncan. Well, he was in the Spurs coaching staff, but I'm not really sure anyone coached Tim in the NBA lol

All Spurs fans have three woulda coulda memories, that are painful: 1. Duncan should have six championships. If he was left on the floor against the Heat, they would have won. 2006 finals They had the crowd control ropes out. The series was over. 2. Derek Fisher’s .4 second (super lucky) basket that won the game, right after Duncan’s amazing (lucky lol) shot over Shaq 2005 Conference Finals (I think) As a a Spurs fan that hurt, but it’s okay. Duncan will always be my favorite player. 3. Ginobli foul against Nowitzki Gervin Robinson Duncan ???????! Do we get another?

The Big Fundamental was truly great in what he did on the court... I'm a SPURS fan ever since Elliott was drafted but Duncan was the steal of the draft and made what the SPURS who they were...

The man was just so pure in his game that you didn't even realize he had a wild stat line. There were so many games that I'd look up near the end of his game and he had like 30pt 15reb 7ast 2stl 6blk, and you say when did all that happen!

No player in the history of basketball won more than 1 title without a CURRENT All-NBA teammate Apart from Duncan, who did it 4 times. Top 3 longevity, top 7 peak, greatest winner, leader and teammate since Russell, 3rd greatest defender and best offensive player on 4 title teams (more than anyone bar MJ/LBJ) Top 5 player ever

Laker fan here Tim Duncan was Me Fundamental. The thug. Is he never rash talked people or was even known for being a heel. He would actually kill ypu with kindness in interviews. Because he was not flashy he did not get the love he deserved. He could be having a quiet game and before you know it, you look up and see he has 25 points 14 rebounds and 7 assists, with 2 blocked shots. He was also a very good free throw shooter for a big man shot at 70 percent. I felt bad when I read he got swindled out of his money. TD was always a classy guy.

Funny story. The summer in-between his first and 2nd year in S.A. He was shopping at the local mall here in San Marcos. My wife, then girlfriend, calls me to tell me he's there at the mall. She worked there as well. I got in my car and burned over as fast as I could arrive. Drive around until I see a small crowd outside of a store. Don't remember which store, I think it was Nike. I get off the car, walk up and he's walking out the door as I get close. I don't know what to say as he exits so the first thing that comes to my mind is..."Tim! Do you remember me?" He looks at me funny, and I say..."I was at one.of your games this year!" He laughs at I ask for an autograph. He signed the back of my shirt. I love telling this story to different fans of his I meet.

Tim Duncan is an anchor on both ends. His size and skill alone gives the offense the ability to generate higher percentage shots and also prevent them on the other end.

Parker and Ginobili are real Hall of Famers. But to say that Tim Duncan was blessed with teammates, one has to calmly consider their comparisons. For example, Magic had Kareem and Worthy, Bird had McHale and Parrish, and Jordan had Pippen and Rodman. Kobe had Shaq and Pau, Shaq had Penny, Kobe and Wade. LeBron had Wade and Bosh and Kyrie and Love and AD. Was Tim Duncan "really" blessed with teammates?
