Can't say that about the Lakers.....they were beaten from pillar to post in the 86 WCF by Houston. They were lucky that team fell off with injuries/suspensions and there was no teams out West that could match them talent wise til the Finals for the remainder of the 80s.
You are killing it with your channel. I look every day after work if you uploaded. My Colombian wife is always baffled I’m watching games from decades ago 😂
Dantley and Vinnie J were incredible. The Celtics were getting older and were a walking MASH unit in this series. One of the roughest games/series ever, but the Pistons pushed the physicality envelope as far as they were allowed. Len Bias (Projected by Red Auerbach to be a dominate game-changer like Bird, Jordan) dying two days after the 1986 draft and young all-star Reggie Lewis dying in 1993 ended any chance to extend the Bird-Celtic dynasty, but I guess they were due for a setback or 2 after their epic 30 year rein.
The end of Boston’s dominance in the East (when the East was still elite).... even though they didn’t win this season Detroit’s starting 5-8 was a sensational bucket getting variation of the early “Bad Boys”
The Pistons were finally good enough to dethrone the king of the Eastern Conference. But what a brutal rivalry between these teams. Definitely more hate than respect.
I know I may get some negative comments, but this era was just SO MUCH more fun to watch... Isaiah, Magic, Bird, and Jordan, along with Kemp, and a ton of Hall of Famers... Seemed like every game we watched something incredible happen. Todays game is definitely softer, less physical, and the types of fouls called now take the flow out the game.
They ushered all the players off the court because of the fans, even the Pistons LOL ...What a smooth brained comment, just say what you mean, it's all because of ''wasicm'' LOL
That stadium (Pontiac Silverdome 1975-2013 demolished in March 2018) was built for football (Detroit Lions home from 1975-2001) was so big that the court was laid down a quarter to the corner ends and 35,000 fans can blow by security. The next season the Pistons moved to Auburn Hills Michigan and played at The Palace of Auburn Hills until 2017.
I'm a huge Celtics and Bird fan but also a realist and I try and look at things objectively and your right about Bird in this series. He didn't shoot well and he looked old and slow. I think part of him looking that way was Detroit. They just did a great job of keeping him in check and making him look old. Plus of course coming off the duel with Nique he probably didn't have enough left in the tank for Detroit. I always say - Bird wasn't perfect. He lost a lot of big games. But he won alot as well. If he has played better in 88 they may have beaten Detroit - but by this time Detroit was the better team
