I was at this game. The whole crowd was shocked for like 2 mins looking at the score board because we kinda knew the Riley era was over. What broke silence was someone loudly asking "wtf didnt he dunk the ball?!?!?" Lol the best of times, the worst of times lol
That last shot by Patrick Ewing was so good. He showed great patience, didn't panic, took his time, made a great move for a perfect shot that barely was too hard for a miss that couldn't have been any closer. Props to Patrick Ewing for doing his best and showing the heart of a champion. That missed shot was heartbreaking but what a game.
Such a great era of basketball. The games matter. Right mix of defense, post play, with three pointers mixed in. No ads on the jerseys or players being sensitive about tweets.
NBA on NBC with Marv Albert knew how to present the game like a theatrical movie. 90s were the peak of basketball. Wow, game 7 and Ewing barely missed that easy layup...
rem this like yesterday. classic rivalry. this game had a lotta significance. this lead to that classic Knicks-Heat rivalry in the late 90s-early 00s with the departure of Riley. I still get goosebumps watching these games. i used 2 be sooooo hyped at playoff time, itching for every game
The heat rivalry wasn't anything like the Pacers though & Reggie. 6 series in 9 years. 3-3 & multiple game 7s. Even the 1st Rd went 5 when it was best of 5.
@@INDY_LF I thought the Knicks-Heat rivalry was more personal and heated. I thought a fight was gonna break out every play, that's how much those guys hated each other. Knicks-Pacers I thought was more competitive than heated like the Knicks-Heat rivalry was
From 1983-1994, no road team won a game 7 in the NBA Playoffs In 1995, Indiana became the 2nd team that weekend to pull it off: one day after Mario Elie’s Kiss of Death
I am so proud to have witnessed all these 90's games and especially the NBA on NBC era!!!! There were so many good games!!! These young gen just don't know!!!!! These games puts a tear to my eyes......
History repeats again. Pacers Knicks Game 7 MSG today in Semis. Just like 1995 ECSF Game 7 between both teams and 1994 ECF Pacers Knicks Game 7 at MSG. 1998, 1999, 2000 Pacers Knicks series & 1993 too. So many Pacers Knicks playoff series & renewed rivalry.
You da best!! I don't know how you pull this stuff up but you are my childhood in a RU-vid channel 😂😂. Appreciate your contributions to the time machine 💪🏽
It's so refreshing and nostalgic to see players actually move the ball around and create mid range shots as opposed to everyone hanging outside the arc waiting for a 3. Oh and also very noticeably was no "taking a charge".. somebody's driving to the basket you get in their face and play hard defense.
Patrick playing on one leg literally and still leading the Knicks based on pure heart and determination. He narrowly missed the tying game ending basket, but despite being phisically limited he had 29 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks…playing injured! That’s for those who doubt Patrick as a leader and a clutch player
@@qualitycontrol9911unfortunately Ewing came up in the leaders dont make excuses era. U were supposed to win with whoever was on your team or get all the blame. They used to dog Ewing in the NYC media
@@brandedmcgowan9414 I’ve heard never should have left NBC in the first place just wish it didn’t come at the sacrifice of TNT but 2 major networks covering the NBA I wonder who will get the finals
The next year the Bulls were back with MJ it was there last shot until 99 when the Knicks got Sprewell but Ewing got hurt that year and got beat by the Spurs.
@@foreverfragrance7yeah but 97 was their chance as well to defeat Chicago if it weren't for Oakley getting ejected. Oakley blames Ewing for a lot but to me if Oakley doesn't get ejected in game 5 vs Miami pj brown would have never flipped Charlie ward which led to multiple suspensions. They was peaking at the right time until that flip of ward
I hated when Coach Pat Riley left the New York Knicks Basketball Team Franchise and the organization back then after the Knicks lost in the 2nd round of the Semi finals in the 1995 NBA Playoffs. I felt that Pat Riley abandoned the team. To me personally, The New York Knicks were a very good competitive basketball team and one of the best to represent the Eastern Conference.
@@latroylockett7768 The New York Knicks Basketball franchise was still playing their best basketball years back then and they're performing better right now
I never blamed Pat for the missed layup it was such a weird play he was right in between dunking and layup being the best option he couldn’t decide and just malfunctioned. He had the heart of a Lion and gave us everything he had love him to death
The Knicks lost the game, and then Pat Riley went on the call the Knicks “losers.” He then took a coaching job with the Heat, where he won one playoff series against the Knicks. That playoff series was decided by the referees and suspensions. The Heat proceeded to lose 3 consecutive playoff series against the Knicks, in which the Heat were favored to win in all of those matchups.
But Riley and Mourning eventually brought Miami its first NBA title in 2006, while New York remains in purgatory. And all anyone really remembers is the 1997 Series where Mourning hit three pointers on them to close them out lol
@@bigblueGiants Ask the Mavericks in Game 6 if he was just along for the ride. He replaced Shaq down 14 and they came back and won, primarily from his contributions.
The 1995 ECF should have been Magic vs Knicks. If those 2 teams had played each other it would have been a 7 game series Magic and Knicks matched up well. Magic probably would have won in 7. Miller's 8 pts in 9 seconds is why Pacers won.
Pacers Magic had 1 game tht series on Memorial Day tht may be the best game of all time. I think there was 5 clutch game winners in the final 30 secs. There was 3 in the final 10 secs. It was nuts. Well I guess only 1 ended up being a gm winner.
Can we talk about how underrated The Indiana Pacers were?? From 1994-2000, they were always in the hunt! 1994-Lost in 7 Conference Finals 1995-Lost in 7 Conference Finals 1998-Lost in 7 Conference Finals 1999-Lost in 6 Conference Finals 2000-Lost in 6 NBA Finals. They didn’t win, but they made it a series a majority of the time! Who knows what would’ve happened in 98 had Larry Bird not made the mistake of taking Jalen Rose out in the 4th quarter! Again, you can’t bet against Michael, but it could’ve been REALLY interesting!
Man that NBA playoff intro was da shit man that’s when u know it was about to be a good game coming on! I miss those playoff games it’s not the same anymore it’s just run and gun now. Put the playoffs back on NBC!
What heartbreak for Ewing. He only played in 1 NBA Finals and would lose. He had the misfortune of playing in the same conference as Jordan and when Jordan was on hiatus, Ewing runs into prime Olajuwon and a prime Reggie Miller. Those Pacer teams had big front courts and decent depth. If it weren't for Jordan, I say Ewing, Barkley, Malone and Stockton likely win a championship at some point.
We NEED old school basketball to come back to the NBA more than ever, along with nba coming back to channel nbc with this theme!! Maybe we need to inject testosterone into males, idk what the problem is. But we NEED this back!!!!
@@coreyortiz9913the only time not going backwards makes sense, is when you’re talking about taking back a genuinely terrible ex bf or gf. We’re talking about going back to a time when men were MEN, and basketball had HEART and GRIT!
Marv Albert asked if Pat Riley will return. Couple months later, Riley tampered his contract after accepting the team president-coach capacity for Miami. Obviously he wants more power the Knicks refuse. It’s kinda interesting and fascinating a non-player was the central figure that stirred the Knicks-Heat rivalry (1997-2000), with all Playoff faceoffs went the distance.
i was a toll collector for the NJ Turnpike...exit 14 by Newark Airport listening to this heartbreaking game...after the loss im super pissed.. i noticed 3 buses, all back to back, coming into my lane. i noticed coach brown standing in the front of the bus by the driver and immediately knew who was in these damned buses...lets just say their windows were showered with pennies and worthless canadian coins😂😂😂...
You clearly dont know anything about the 2024 new york knicks Drawn comparisons to how 90s teams hustle compete and fight for every inch on the floor. All the old great knicks frazier, Ewing, starks, melo etc praise these guys
Damn real grown men out there. The nba I grew up on NBC!! And damn Reggie miller game would translate so well to todays. He was doing things in mid 80s they doing now
I cried when the Knicks lost this game. I was eleven years old and somehow I knew this was the end of an era. Sure, they kept making the playoffs with that intense rivalry with the Heat, and made the Finals as an 8 seed in a stricke shortened season, but this really was the end of an era. Riley left after this to Miami.
Had the Knicks won this game, they’ll advance to the ECF to face Shaq and Penny. The 1995 Magic would have a much difficult time dealing with Knicks physical approach than with Reggie Miller and the Pacers. Knicks were a much more experienced team, having came so close to winning last season’s championship. Magic vs Knicks matchup would likely to go to 7 games as well. Penny Hardaway vs Derek Harper Nick Anderson vs John Starks Dennis Scott vs Charles Smith/Anthony Mason Horace Grant vs Charles Oakley Shaq vs Patrick Ewing
As a 10 yo BULLS fan watching this with my cousins & uncle I was soooo happy the KNICKS lost cuz the refs screwed us the year before on bogus Scottie Pippen foul. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️😂
