i'm a native north carolinian and UNC student. Trust me, NC State is UNC's rival in football and every other sport except basketball, which is essential Dooks only good sport
t.a was a beast but no one couldn't stop him n highschool hands down I remember the game against Monroe redhawks he had at least 4 touchdowns n 300 yds
i was at that game and it was the biggest load of shit...ta CLEARLY crossed the plain on the first try but the ref (who i later found out actually went to carolina) all the way back at the 30 called it back...u tell me who has the better view: the ref on the goalinel, or the ref at the 30? seems simple to me
packer92, What? You have never seen a touchdown signal overturned? Ever seen instant replay? Ever seen one come back for a penalty? If two officals see different things then it is Knight's job to reconcile the issue. One said he was down, the other said he couldn't see whether he was down or not. Here's a quarter, go buy a clue.
I remember this game. I dont think it had any Tv air time. Not sure why. One of the best Pack and Heels game. I heard the entire game on radio. Woody was the best.
Never understood why this one wasn't being broadcast on some sports channel (there was enough of them even back then), but props go to Time Warner cable for broadcasting the game on a public access channel and working out with (it think) Learfield Sports to looping in the audio broadcast called by veteran Tar Heel sports radio broadcaster Woody Durham.....this one was definitely a classic
@jlambv He most certainly was down. Google "Photo Gallery: Upon Further Review." I used to be dubious about the whole thing, but those images make it apparent that he was down.
I don't think what happened in 1997 with his Heart Attack on the field during the UNC vs Virginia game had any bearing on how Jim McKnight called this game in 2004 ....McKnight's life was saved in 1997 because of all the Medical Staff/Trainers and EMS personnel on the sidelines at the game (who were there in case of an emergency for the football players) and the fact the medical staff got to him within seconds of McKnight collapsing and started CPR Immediately. That is what saved Jim McKnight's life. The Trainers and EMS personnel aren't employees of UNC Hospital.
The side jusge called touchdown...The guy coming in and overturning is the line judge. Tis maybe too much for State fans but that "L" on his back stands for Line Judge. It is his call and if you knew anything about football you would know that the call is never non-reverseable.
LOL at unCHeat fans bragging about the all-time record vs NC State in football. As stated earlier, it's skewed b/c of dominance in the days of leather helmets when most of the time NC State had an intramural team with regular students (non-scholarship) vs UNC that had scholarship players. Since the ACC was formed in 1953, and the subsequent 62 meetings, the record is almost even with UNC holding a 34-28 advantage (55%-45%). And we all know that recent history is all anyone cares about. Like the last 10 years or less. Not what happened 60+ years ago. And NC State has won 6 of the last 10
Just glad I could see it. I was home on leave from Iraq when this game was played and listened to it on the radio cause it was on tv were I was at. Was great to finally see what happened. Would have been nice to see it then, but oh well guess the network didn't think it would be much of a game so they probably played some game like USC that I don't give a crap about since they are on the other side of the country.
Typical NC State Fan. Doesn t know anything about football. The SIDE JUDGE Makes that call not the line judge. And if any referee is able to see a knee touch the ground before a player gets in the end zone (which is what happened here) he has to over turn that call.
That is one of the worst calls in state history. TA was in, the head refferee wasnt even in position to make that call. From other angles TA had the ball cross the goal line before his knee hit, and when it did, his knee was on top of a player, there for he was not down.
Why don't you try looking up the all time record between the two schools. It's not close, just like the basketball series. So if Carolina doesn't have a program State damn sure doesn't. Matter of fact both Wake and Duke have beaten Carolina more times than State has. Yeah State has two in a row on Carolina and they have a chance to win again this year, but until State accomplishes something or evens this series up you guys have nothing to talk about. Have fun watching Carolina's bowl game.
I live in Raleigh, I saw every available angle that was shot, even ones that some guy on the sideline shot with his home camera. The Referee on the home side on the goal line called the play down, not the head official. The referee on the visitors side called the play a touchdown. The referees conferred and the one who said his knee was down was determined to have the better angle. If the knee was on top of anything is was the tacklers hand. Not exactly something that can bee seen in live.
I was sitting on the goal line, about 15 rows up, great view. His knee was clearly down before he extended the ball across the plane of the goal line. I remember going crazy because one of the refs was signalling TD. Refs wound up making the right call and we came up big on the next play. Great game!!
