I miss watching basketball in the '90s and very early 2000's. When you watched games on TV then on a major network, you were just about guaranteed to hear either this or the NBA on NBC theme.
“ in Marv Albert’s voice. “ we welcome you to The NBA On NBC on Primetime. Hi everyone I’m Marv Albert along with the czar of the telestrator Mike Fratello “.
We had a whole set of lyrics to this song at one point that incessantly taunted Duke. But it was 1993-03, so Duke was just crushing everyone's hearts every year anyhow.
Another year, another month of madness. No matter how many times they alter the theme song, this verson will always be what plays in my mind. May your upsets win and may your bracket stay intact!
0:05 - "The won it! at the dunk!" - Billy Packer. 0:08 - "Ahhhhh!! Holy Macro!" - Al McGuire. Remembering this CBS intro theme back in 1993 during their start of the coverage...
This theme holds a special place in my heart--the first year it was used, my Tar Heels won it all. CBS needs to bring this theme back. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
the new version they have been using for a while now just doesn't have the bounce and jump of this one. It seems like the lethargic cousin to this theme. Either bring this one back, or go in a completely new direction. Don't remind us every march that you had perfection and gutted it.
This theme music used from 1993 until 2003 NCAA March Madness were heard from some play-by-play announcers: * Jim Nantz (1991-2023). * Dick Stockton (1982-1993). * Verne Lundquist (1987-2016). * Greg Gumbel (1989-1994). * Tim Ryan (1982-1994). * Sean McDonough (1991-2000). * Mike "Doc" Emrick (1993-1995). * James Brown (1990-1994). * Mike Gorman. * Michele Tafoya (1996 Elite Eight between Kentucky vs. Wake Forest during the middle of the first half). * Tim Brando (1995-2000s). * Ian Eagle (1998-present). * Gus Johnson (1996-2016). * Kevin Harlan (1999-present).
After hearing the current theme on CBS, I had to google the old version. This is so far superior in every way. And this is the version I hum to this day, the greatest theme in sports. Bring it back!
In years' past, I would play this song to pump me up for March Madness. This year, I may play it a few times as a coping mechanism to move on without our beloved tournament. Right now would be the start of the tournament, but it's of course cancelled this year because of the corona virus.
Remember Michele Tafoya did a play-by-play announcer along with Bill Raftery.. Since when Sean McDonough was not feeling well during the middle in the first half but he returned to second half.. It was the 1996 Elite Eight between Kentucky Wildcats vs. Wake Forest (led by Tim Duncan)..
This was the final year for original version of "One Shining Moment" by David Barrett (1987 original version) after the 1993 National title game between North Carolina Tar Heels against the Michigan Wolverines (the Fab Five era) but this was a first year of that theme music.. The following year (1994), the second "One Shining Moment" was made by the late Teddy Pendergrass (until 1999)..
Back in the 2000’s when the tournament was just on CBS and Bryant Gumble would have you flying around the country to game after game and you could just plant in front of the TV on CBS and know exactly what was going on everywhere!
I want to use this as my morning alarm since it never fails to get you pumped. But im afraid if i do ill associate it with getting up for work and grow to hate it.
Back when CBS basketball had an all star announcing cast including: Jim Nantz Verne Lundquist Kevin Harlan Gus Johnson Tim Brando Craig Bolerjack Dick Enberg Bill Walton Ian Eagle Billy Packer Clark Kellogg Greg Gumbel Spencer Tillman Charles Davis Armen Keteyian Bonnie Bernstein And many more
I can't help but hear Jim Nantz and (the late) Billy Packer when I hear this version. I mean, it's similar to the current version but it's somehow cleaner and more pure. Either way, it's the soundtrack to the best sporting event of the year. Don't ever stray too far from this, CBS!
Still the theme - on its 3rd version which has been used since Turner became a partner. It’s the 25 yr anniv of the original (no joke)! Congrats to whoever made this at cbs.
MeSoCorny one of the more iconic sports theme songs. Those 8 notes at the beginning are like a tornado siren when you hear it from the other room, it’s like “🚨must watch tv, time to gamble and drink all day 🚨”
Once upon a time I had the full 2 minute version of this anthem in reasonably good quality. Then I accidentally saved over it with this version. I have checked backup drives, USB drives, memory cards, everything I can think of and still have to try and recover it and I can’t find it. Come on Internet, someone has to have the full length tune where it doesn’t sound like a Fisher-Price tape recorder held up to the TV speaker.
That year for my 7th grade geography project, we had to pick a team and find out how far each team traveled between venue in each round. If you picked the winning team, you got three homework passes. I picked Maryland that year. It was such a feeling of accomplishment.
The only team to win multiple championships under this theme was none other than the Kentucky Wildcats in 1996 and 1998. Would have had the 3 peat if it were not for that OT loss to Arizona in 1997!
This theme won't ever come back, it's way way too 90s sounding. Now that said CBS's college football theme screams 80s but they haven't updated it at all
amlnet49 Yeah I agree with you on this but the NCAA Football theme that CBS uses is perfect and I don't think they need to change it. It is the only good College Football Theme out there as I think ESPN College Football Playoff theme is pretty good but isn't what it used to be with ESPNs old one so they shouldn't change it.
