What's up guys, Jeff from Sorta Healthy here! In todays video I'll be reviewing the NCSF Strength Coach Certification. The National Council On Strength and Fitness has been growing in popularity lately, so we figured we'd check out some of what they have to offer.
Spoilers, but for the most part we thought their strength coach cert was pretty good!
When reviewing this NCSF certification I set out to answer a few questions in particular.
1. Is this certification worth it? If so, who is this cert best suited for?
2. Does this certification replace a base personal training certification? Or should I get this strength coach cert and a base training certification?
3. How does the NCSF compare to other personal training organizations like NASM, ACE, ISSA, NSCA, and ACSM?
4. Will this NCSF certification help me get a job?
In this video we answer those questions and more! We'll be sure to review the NCSF personal training certification in a future video too!
Thanks for your continued support everyone! We appreciate it!
-Jeff

Appreciate your thoughts on this cert. I have an ACE base cert and am in the middle of studying for this one. I agree with your assessment that the book is an excellent resource. You're also exactly right that this is a great certification for working with the high school athletes. The alternative for the vast majority of those kids is a program designed by their sport coach, which has relatively low odds of being a thoughtful program for proper athletic development. Thanks for your work putting out this content.

Hi Jeff, great contents 👌 Could you please make a video about how to approach people on gym floor and prospect effectively
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
I’ll be making a new video on that sometime this year!

Currently studying for this exam because SC is something I always had a passion for. I'm a retired professional mma fighter with an associates degree (so i cant sit for the CSCS), and was trained/completed an internship under Phil Daru. I would love to continue working with fighters in this area so I felt it was fitting. I too wish there was more videos but find the book helpful

It sounds like you’ll do well in whatever you set your mind to. I’d say your MMA background will definitely help set you apart a bit

I'm looking into getting the NCSF-CSC, as I'm a few years of college away from being eligible for the CSCS. I currently intern with my university's S&C department and they do accept the CSC if a job were to become available as an assistant Strength Coach. My tip to others would be to just make sure you know what's accepted by wherever you'd like to apply, and try learning and shadowing at high-level performance environments, gaining that in-person experience and building that network goes a long way in the S&C field and becoming a better coach overall.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
This is good advice! It’s also exactly the sort of situation where I think this certification is useful too

The NCSF-CSC program is accredited by the NCCA and also meets the NCAA recommendations for all strength and conditioning coaches.

It’s a solid course overall. I definitely recommend it to certain people. I think the reality is that people view the CSCS as the superior certification though. That said, I still think this course could be valuable to many.

I’m a exercise science student and my school department partnered with the NCSF for personal training and strength and conditioning. I passed my personal training exam but I failed the CSC exam. You did mentioned that the NCSF fails to go through coaching cues. While the certifications are alright, the actual experience in doing these will be more beneficial as the textbook won’t really teach you, especially when it comes to programming
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
I definitely agree! Hands on experience, especially hands on experience with actual lifts is pretty much always going to be more useful than a certification!

I haven’t yet! I may do some NESTA courses later this year though

Hi, Can you make a playlist on performing different exercises properly with good angles? It would be a great help.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
I’m definitely considering making some videos like that! We’ll see what the future holds!

Are there any base certification courses that don't require a college degree?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
The only certification you need a degree to obtain is the CSCS from the NSCA. You don’t need a degree to get your NASM, ACE, NSCA, ACSM, ISSA etc base personal training certification.

An online coach that doesn’t coach in person, would this be beneficial?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Месяц назад
It certainly could be beneficial. I think the best online coaches have done a fair amount of in-person coaching at some point though

NCSF's tests are RIDICULOUSLY difficult, like way more difficult than they ever need to be. Took me 3 attempts to pass the Personal Trainer test, and when after I failed the Strength Training exam, I decided to not attempt it again. For some reason, they weigh the squat-type exercise way too highly. Decided to let my certification with them expire. not worth the extreme level of difficulty.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
I appreciate the feedback! I have had a few trainers tell that they were challenging. Have you taken other exams with competing organizations like NASM, ACE, NSCA, etc? If so, how would you compare the difficulty of the NCSF exams to those other organizations tests?
@snapsbyreyes
@snapsbyreyes Год назад
@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation I have not taken any other organizations' exams. In comparison with any other exams I've taken in college and university, this test trumps them all as far as difficulty goes. I only went with NCSF because back in the day, they were considered the gold standard as far as training certification went. Now, I notice other organizations are the more popular choice.

I currently have my certification with NCSF but I took a NASM certification years ago and I thought NASMs exam was tougher but they did a better job in prepping and teaching so i was more ready for the exam. I think part of what makes NCSF exams so hard is they don't really teach and prep as well as some other certifications and courses.
@sikaing8168

@@kristenness6034 Exactly. The theory is very challenging and their videos are not teaching. I just signed up their course not long and in the mid of studying now.

Ya it’s not the most popular certification. It’s the much lesser known, and for better or worse, less respected version of the CSCS in a lot of ways
