Great video, as usual! Im a trainer with NASM CPT, CNC, and halfway through the CES. Im also in school as an LMBT. I think the biggest practical benefit to the CES is it helps me be more aware and cognicent of how I program for my clients. For example, if I know my client has an anterior pelvic tilt, ill likely program more hamstring and glute dominant exercise than quad dominant movements. Basically, knowing what muscles are already dominant can help organically shape the perscribed routine, while mitigating chances of injury. One thing I am increasingly interested in, is the efficacy of foam rolling. I see so much conflicting information. I see some say you need 226lbs PSI to cause mechanical difference in fascia. But then I see it relieve pain in my clients regularly almost instantly. And I also notice that my clients pain response to foam rolling decreases as they begin to do it consistently. Which says there must be SOMETHING happening over time with it. If anyone has any input on this I would love to hear it. One thing i have
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
Good post! The CPT, CES, LMBT combo should serve you well! I think Foam rolling can certainly be beneficial! There is certainly a debate over exactly what it does, as well as how much pressure is needed to cause tissue changes. I’ve definitely seen clients benefit from it personally though, and it’s a quick, easy addition to a warmup, so there’d be no reason not to include it.

I appreciate the honesty and unbiased perspective on NASM. I just came from your NASM-CPT review, and I appreciate that despite its flaws, you still think NASM is a top CPT certification. I tend to agree, and the exam was harder than I expected. I passed the NASM-CPT exam earlier this year in January and I’m considering the CES course later this year. I already did the PES, and thought it was pretty good. I’m also a licensed massage therapist for 11 years, so I’m just expanding my skillset. Thanks for the video.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
That’s awesome! The massage and training combo is definitely an effective one. Ya, none of the certifications are amazing, but NASM is likely the best one right now. The test isn’t easy! I try to tell new trainers that! I’m sure we’ll cover the PES at some point too!

Update...I passed this CES! BUT, agreed. They really need your suggestion concerning ways to help bring things together, and exercise selection. Your videos on Anatomy, upper, and lower body muscles helped HUGELY! Definitely needed for the layman if generally new to Corrective Exercise. It would also be wise for those testing to THOROUGHLY learn the landscape of thier course content for quick reference purposes. Gracious thanks Jeff for all that you do! 💯👊🏽🌅
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
Congrats! That’s a great accomplishment! Im hopeful that the study guide video will be helpful! It’s a lot of information so I’m finding it tough to fit it all into one video/guide lol

First off all thanks for your time and for sharing all your knowledge. You make things sound so simple and help me believe I can achieve thing, thanks and GOD bless. Also I wanted to ask, if you have an opinion on ACSM CPT certification. Again thank you for all your help.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation

Thanks for the kind words and support! I think ACSM is pretty solid. Pretty comparable to NASM, ACE, and the NSCA. There are definitely some things I like more, and less about ACSM in particular though. I plan on reviewing their course soon.

These techniques are great! Clients love FMS and corrective exercise, if you advertise for pain relief, postural correction and alignment. Weight loss clients may be a little different. These techniques can be inserted on a day when your client's tired, performed during rests, or prescribed as homework, for those who will! Haha. My trainer had his PES along with an MS and was incredible, deciding between the two now...thanks for your review!

Thanks so much Jeff! I desperately need an approach to getting past this exam smh. It does need a tie together. Also, not knowing where to focus if you fail to pass the final exam feels less supportive. Please do post a video on focus areas, and potential ways to quickly narrow one's search if needing to reference the text. Thanks again!
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
Thanks for the support! I hear what you’re saying! The final exam is pretty tough! I should have a study guide video covering a lot of the most important material out in the next 3-4 weeks! Stay tuned!

I’ve been working In a gym for 2 years and training for 4 years in total. I apply corrective exercise daily to all of my clients and I’m still so lost. 😫 I have one more attempt (kind of embarrassing) but your review video definitely helped me understand a lot of the information better. So thank you for that! Fingers crossed that I pass my final attempt!

I'm looking at more continuing education courses for my next 2 years recertification with NASM this one is on the list and want to really research it before I spend the money I appreciate you covering this! Question which direction would be better to take a.course on weight loss specialist or the CES ?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
That’s a good question! Honestly, it depends on you. If you feel like you’re already good at nutrition coaching, this course the CES is probably better. If you’re not comfortable doing nutrition coaching, or don’t know how best to approach it, that course is probably better. That said, I haven’t done the weight loss specialist one yet, so I can’t say for sure. I’ve done the PN one which is similar though.

Great Video. I have my Corrective Exercise Cert through ISSA and their approach was different. They taught more on how to intergerate it into a session instead of creating what NASM did. Also reading other book like Rebuilding MILO and Becoming A Supple Leapard helped.

@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
That’s awesome! Maybe I’ll check out the ISSA one at some point! NASM actually did do a decent job at showing how to put things into a session. I just wish they gave more direct examples of it, with good video content, and other stuff as well. Good book recommendations too!

Can any of the methods in this certification be used with clients as stand-alone self care for distance clients the trainer will not meet in person, for distance trainers.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
Yes, some of the techniques and things discussed in this certification would still be useful in those circumstances. I would say that you’ll be able to do the most with in-person clients though if we’re talking about utilizing what’s in this course specifically.

For corrective exercise and screening what would you recommend
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
This course and the FMS ones are the two best. Like I said in the video, to some extent it will come down to your preferences and your individual clients.

Here's mine. It's expensive for what it is. Moderately useful and its an open book exam which I think diminishes the experience. I got it free as part of my original training, I would not pay for it.

Do you feel like this certification kind of crosses the line of a physical therapist? I know many people that have this certification and would literally try to treat injuries for their clients. I believe it was a physical therapist that helped create this certification, so I can kind of see how that can happen.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
I think that’s a good question! I would say no, as long as the trainer uses the information and procedures correctly. We can help clients with certain chronic conditions, but we can’t do much with more acute injuries. That’s when we refer out. Obviously, there’s more too it than that, but that’s the very simple version of what should be done.
