The Dreamies made the most perfect remake for Candy. They managed to honor the original by keeping the most iconic parts in the choreography and only tweaking the arrangement just a tiny bit, yet were able to make it also their own song. It's really hard to do so because Candy is honestly probably the most iconic K-pop song in Korea, wherein apparently anyone in the 20s-40s age range could instantly sing and dance to any part of the song. Any idol group has covers it at some point in their careers, too. The future is so bright for the Dreamies. :)

Fun fact: "We Go Up" came out in 2018 and it was originally meant to be Mark's NCT-Dream graduation song. As you might have noticed, he is kind of highlighted in this MV and a lot of the MV looks like the members are just hanging out and partying, etc. Some of the scenes in the MV are actually the members just celebrating Mark's last MV with the NCT-Dream members and the members saying goodbye to him as their leader, etc. That's why this song and MV is full of feels. Mark is the oldest member of NCT-Dream and he had recently turned 19 right before their "We Go Up" comeback, so that is why this was a graduation celebration. NCT-Dream is NCT's third sub-unit, which began in August 2016 and it is currently made up of the 7 youngest members of NCT -- Mark, RenJun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung. All the Dream member's are currently between the ages of 20 and 22 years old (they were 14-17 when they debuted.) SM originally created NCT-Dream with the idea that if they had a trainee that they felt was ready to debut even though they were really young, they would start out as a member of NCT-Dream. They were the cute babies of the group who were learning the ropes and honing their skills because they are young, but they are also some of the most talented because they debuted way sooner than a lot of trainees. Which explains why the Dreamies are so impressive. SM's original plan was that when the members turned 19 they were supposed to graduate from the group and they were no longer considered a member of NCT-Dream. Ater Mark (the leader/captain of Dream) "graduated" from NCT-Dream in 2018, we thought Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin and RenJun would be graduating in 2019 and they would form a new NCT sub-unit or be add to a sub-unit that already existed. (Which would have left NCT-Dream with only 2 members, with the idea that new trainees would probably debut sometime in 2020 and become members of NCT-Dream.) However, as you've seen, SM announced at the beginning of 2020 that they decided to make NCT-Dream a permanent group and suspend the whole "graduation" concept, including putting Mark back in the group. As you have started to discover, as you go along and see some of NCT-Dream's older material, you will see and hear how their style has grown and changed over time. That is also part of the group's concept. As the members grow and mature so to does there sound and style. You should check out their dance practice video for "We Go Up." NCT is known for their dancing and they have a dance practice video for almost everything they do.

NCT-Dream's "Candy" is a remake of the iconic song "Candy" by SM's very first Idol group H.O.T. in 1996. Therefore, the NCT-Dream members' "crazy" outfits and a large part of the choreography are meant to be a homage to H.O.T.'s original version. If you look up H.O.T's original MV, you will see all the similarities in NCT-Dream's MV. NCT-Dream's version takes the iconic, nostalgic style of H.O.T.'s song and adds in modern elements to update it for the new century. H.O.T., which stands for High-five Of Teenager, is the very first Kpop idol boy group and they are the very first group to gain international superstardom. H.O.T was active from 1996-2000. They are the group that helped create the Kpop industry and they are the reason why SM and Lee SooMan is considered the founder of everything Kpop related. H.O.T was the group that created almost everything we know of as part of Kpop today, from fan clubs to fan club names, fan chants to fan colors, international fandoms and crazy, super loyal fans that learn everything there is to know about their favorite groups. H.O.T was also the first group to have an international member, Tony Ahn, who is from America. "Candy" is one of H.O.T's most iconic songs, and literally every new group, both boy groups and girl groups, learn the song and choreography and they perform it on music programs as one of their rookie performances. I doubt you could find a kpop artist -- or even a Korean of any age -- who doesn't know H.O.T.'s "Candy." That is why NCT-Dream's MV is so meaningful for anyone who knows the song's history and one of the reasons why it has quickly become so popular. Kangta, the main vocalist of H.O.T., is still with SM Entertainment -- he is now a solo artist, vocal coach, music producer, actor, radio DJ, etc. -- and he is a member of SM's board of directors. H.O.T's original song is about being addicted to a girl like a piece of candy. Even though you want to break up with her and stop seeing her, she keeps luring you back in with her sweetness and beauty. Like your favorite candy, you can't give her up, no matter how hard you try. As you can see, NCT-Dream's version of the song reinterprets the song and gives it a different meaning.

We Go Up was their last big comeback before Mark's graduation so the lyrics are also quite significant. You are correct that is about looking back (they included references to a lot of their songs in it) and moving forward to the next stage. In a hopeful positive way even though their future as a unit was very uncertain. Graduation lyrics are a must to read. It is a powerful song, especially for Dream, but also whenever you think about life transitions and moving forward to the next chapter in general. We can all relate because we've all graduated or moved on before. And it's so hopeful too, that high bit of the chorus repeats "My graduation, that first step, it will be very happy" Jeno said, for them, the song represents graduating from the graduation system. 2022 would have marked the point by which all of them would have finished and left Dream if the graduation system had remained in place. Through all the uncertainty and forks in their road, Dream have always moved forward and Up and they give me hope and encouragement every time I listen to them
