Note: The Sky-Watcher harmonic mounts do not include a tripod (just like the ZWO harmonic mounts normally do not). The tripod has to be purchased separately. Although the ZWO AM3 and AM5 mounts are on sale (free carbon fiber tripod until April 30): bit.ly/3vZ3Dzp
I agree and wish there was more competition in this space. Most people will likely just stick to the ZWO mounts at these prices as the ZWO mounts are tried and tested. But I do hope this new announcement will get ZWO to lower their prices. I know the AM3 and AM5 mounts are on sale with a free TC40 Carbon Fiber tripod right now (normally $300 extra) which is a good deal for anyone who was planning to buy the tripod anyways.
I'm considering buying an SWG mount and was going to buy an AM3 but I might wait for the wave 100i now. I have an EQ6R Pro, an original Star Adventurer and an SA GTi and have been very happy with all three, so I am somewhat biased towards Sky Watcher. I can see the ZWO camera selling well as part of a grab and go set up, just add a scope, AM mount and power supply and away you go, I'm surprised they don't include a filter draw in the package as well.
@@anata5127 Unfortunately my experience doesn't support that SkyWatcher is any more reliable than ZWO but the quality has certainly been increasing across the board in the budget mounts. I do like the cable management of the SkyWatcher Wave series of mounts better though. Looking forward to seeing an actual review later in the year.
Hi, Skywatcher said they are not including the tripod and are asking who it was that told you that. You might want to reach to them, cause now ZWO put their tripods as included in in their strainwaves. YOU HAVE CASED A RIFF IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN! WOOOO!!
The video has been corrected. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I alway strive to provide the most accurate information to my viewers so any corrections are always appreciated. I had gone by the ad on the Skywatcher.it website where it stated that "Harmonic Drive Sky-Watcher Wave 150i EQ/AZ mount with up to 25kg load capacity and carbon tripod with extendable legs" so it looked like the tripod was included. But Google translate might not have done a good job of translating to English. Apologies for the confusion. When I made the video there was very little information available. ZWO has had their sale (free tripod) on for a while so that had nothing to do with Sky-Watcher's announcement or my video. The ZWO sale is still on until April 30 so even I am tempted to pick up an AM5 for the free tripod.
