This is kind of a followup video. I obtained some NEC NPP350W projectors that had bad auto Iris'. I ended up buying some used but good Iris' from China (gydz@Timeprojectorlamp.com ,Crystal was really helpful). They have been sitting around while I waited for some free time to install. I installed one a few weeks ago but did not record it. This time I did. I am thinking about selling this one if anyone is interested. Otherwise It's going to be a backup office projector. Hello Frank. I have a similar projector (NP-M300W) that has a bad iris. I noticed that the part is almost identical but i dont see the optical sensor. Is there some other method used in here to determine the position ? I wanted to clean the optical sensor but was stunned that this iris does not have it.

It should have optical sense. It's the little board with the green/red/brown wire that is next to the motor. I hate these iris. I wish I could find a metal gear to replace that nylon one that cracks. frustrating to see so many of these with that issue. Humm, my NEC p451w is showing a moving water when turned on. I think I turned it on with the lens shutter closed. Do you think it be the lens or iris damaged rather than the lamp?

It's hard to say without seeing the picture. Could you post a short video or picture of the problem? Either way I doubt it's the lamp. They just make white light. Any image problems are almost always elsewhere.

Hi frank I recently bought a Nec p350w it powers on blue but no image shows, switches to lamp flashes an image then goes into stand by mode with the red light status blinking. My question is how do I know if I need to replace the lamp (with a quality lamp of course) or the iris? Please and thank you!

There are no messages prior to shut down that I know of because there’s no picture up until in goes into stand by mode (the picture lasts for maybe 2-5 seconds) the projector vents/air filter is spotless functioning fans, no unusual sounds.

Count the amount of flashes between pauses. These flash a code to get you closer to the problem. for example, it'll flash 6 times, pause for a moment and flash 6 times again, that can mean an expired lamp timer. I think 3 flashes and a pause and repeat is the iris if I recall correctly.

There are so many. I thought about it, but since I do this on my own time(after work) I am unable to put that amount of effort. It would be nice to know, I agree. Maybe in the future if I have more time. I do like the idea a lot.

I check my self lamp also not on during turn on and status error showing lamp not on

Hello FixitFrank, Your videos are a tremendous help. I have two NEC M300W in need of repair and your videos have helped me get one back up and running, well it will be as soon as I find a replacement or work around for the broken lamp cover sensor switch. The other goes straight into power-saver stand by mode when plugged in (Steady red power button, no status or lamp lights, no fans, or other noises) and I'm at a loss. I bought a remote and tried resetting the lamp hours via holding the Help button but to no avail. Any ideas of where to look next?

Hi Jamie, I'd plug the LAN into your network and see if you can log into its management console via your web browser. The web interface will have any errors listed(to a degree). I'd start there because if you can't get to the web interface then you may have a deeper power supply issue.

@@FixitFrank Thanks! Unfortunately there are no activity lights on the ethernet port when plugged in. And unfortunately I burned out the contacts of the lamp cover switch trying to swap it out! Oh well

How many times is the LED flashing before it pauses? NEC has multiple error codes depending on the problem.

Hi Sir Mine have an issue of not continuing to display it will go back to standby status, is this the reason of your video the auto iris is defective sir?

Hi there! Your projector has many possible causes of that symptom. What is the LED indicator pattern when the projector goes back into standby? Are there any messages displayed prior to shutdown?

It is like,before you turn on the projector,the one that is red light blinking.

it cant get into the display totally beacuse it will go restarting, i guess thats the word to define it sir

Can you post video of the projector? that would be easiest. There are many possible causes.
