One of three NEC V260 DLP video projectors I worked on last October 2017. They were thoroughly used and not maintained. However even with the color wheel failure, they ran quite a while before having issues. This particular unit had the most dust build up. I replaced all 3 wheels and gave them a good cleaning.

Bonjour Jerome! You can share a picture via Imgur.com for free. Then post a link. I suspect you have a burned/melted shape lens if the center is dark. The shape lens is inside the optical assembly where the DLP chip is located. The lens directs the light to the surface of the DMD. These can melt/burn when they get old or dusty.

Hi Frank, I managed to replace the DMD chip in my V260XG, however following the replacement, I have a new problem now. The projector doesn't power on, whereas the power light is a steady orange and the status light has red blinking in 1 cycle. Troubleshooting docs show it could be due to the lamp cover or housing not appropriately fixed. I have removed this many times and refixed again, but the same issue. I wonder you could give me some advice on this. The lamp itself is new, and it was working till I removed it to replace the DMD chip.

Try jumping the door switch. I have seen those switches break internally or if the lamp cover was affixed to the top and then put back on, it can damage the switch. Its the switch on the PCB above the air intake. There are only 2 wires. As long as those are bridged the projector will think the door is shut.

Hi Frank. I just changed my colour wheel... works mostly great. BUT i Have a dark horizontal line at the part of my projector. Is it possible this was a faulty colour wheel, or it was not installed properly? Or should I look at my lens? Working really good, no noises, resolution is perfect, dark horizontal area at the bottom.
@FixitFrank

That sounds like the light tunnel/ integrator. I'd first make sure all the pieces are seated properly. The light tunnel should not have moved when you changed the wheel. If it did, you can adjust it via the 2 screws that hold the tunnel in place.

just poor image quality .The lenses had detached when I received it and now after gluing back in -ghosting and poor colours- Just wanted some documentation to look at .I guess I better tear it down to the colour wheel - a voyage of discovery - its my schools and theyre broke. Thanks for taking the time Frank

@@alanpickering4497 Ah, I see what you mean. I believe the NP2000 is LCD so there wont be a color wheel. I'd check the aligment of the lens with the front LCD block. but you dont want to remove any of the LCD optics. They are aligned very carefully and will never get back into position even if you put them back where it looks like they were. They need sub-millimeter precision. You may want to read the owners manual section on the lens replacement. Those should pop out and back in on their own. If its not in the mount properly or flat it can do what you are describing. www.projectorcentral.com/NEC-NP2000.htm Here is the owners manual. I also saw a working NP2000 on ebay for $109 if you get real jammed up. It looks pretty decent with a high resolution. good luck man and let me know if you run into anything. I will do my best to help.

Hey Frank, I have a model V300W what looks exactly the same from the inside. When I turn on the projector, after a while the colours will start to be weird and crashes with a lot of beeping noises. I assume maybe this has something to do with the colour wheel as well?

Hi Bas, Sorry for the late reply. For some reason, YT put your comment in my "held for review" spot. If you are still dealing with this, yes, the color wheel is likely the issue.

Frank, I now replaced the color wheel in a VE281. And i have no idea how to find the Index Pulse setting. I'm doing this for the first time, and really have no idea where to look and how to adjust the color back to the right place. Blues are Red, Reds are Blue. Any help?
@FixitFrank
@FixitFrank 4 года назад
Hey man! The thing with the VE281 is the color wheel offset/index is set through the computer interface software that I have yet to find. However there is a trick that works. You need to physically move that little black square to the same place as on the old one. Get it as perfect as you can and it will be perfectly fine. If you have an Optoma or some other models, you can change that index point in the normal service menu. I happened to buy Colorwheels that were pre-indexed. I was prepared to move the black tab but I didn't have to.

Hey Frank, where is there a good site to buy a color wheel? I see sellers on Ebay selling them but it looks like they are all from China. Would you trust buying a color wheel from these buyers or somewhere else? Thanks
@FixitFrank
@FixitFrank 5 лет назад
They are fine.That is where they are made anyway and I've never had a problem. The only place I regularly source parts is from China. I recently bought a DLP chip from Poland but that is an edge case. There is nothing wrong with the parts sold as long as you pay attention to the feedback rating. Usually I start with a supplier in Guangzhou that I use often gydz @timeprojectorlamp.com is her contact info. Her name is Crystal. Very helpful and good prices.

Frank, what has to be adjusted, when the color wheel is replaced and I'm getting a solarized effect on bright scenes?
@FixitFrank
@FixitFrank 6 лет назад
There is a setting in the service menu called the 'index pulse'. You increment or decremented the setting to dial in the image. There may even be a test pattern screen to use. Try Turning on the projector, Press Menu, then on the projector itself, press Enter and Source key at the same time. It may take a few tries. Once in the service menu find the Index Pulse or color wheel index setting and adjust it each way until you find the best spot. On a rare occasion I have re-indexed color wheels by physically moving the index mark. I dial it in using a black marker, then glue the black index mark back over the spot. That is a last resort option of course.

@@jdubthunder Unfortuantely that is the only way. It does work. it just takes the right timing. It took me a few hours to get the timing right. There is 100% no other way to do this. Make sure you are using the right remote and then keep at it until you get the timing right, and you will get in.

Does anyone recognise this fault? I have an Acer H7530D and the colour wheel jitters backwards and forwards a few times when it's starting up, but does not spin, and so the bulb does not light. You can see it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fE2Xhfvonm4.html The colour wheel itself is OK as it spun fine when I tried it on a different projector (and the wheel from that projector showed the same fault as this one when on this projector). I hope the bulb is OK as it is new. The bulb pulses once very briefly at the beginning of the start up, but then no more after that. It tries to start up three times as it should then gives up showing a colour wheel fault (intermittant red LED). Could it be the ballast board? The main semicondictors on the ballast board are OK (following FixItFrank’s video on testing those). Should the wheel spin even if the bulb or ballast board have failed? Thanks for looking at this.
@FixitFrank
@FixitFrank 3 года назад
Bulb and ballast should be ok. Your issue sounds like its in the color wheel drive circuitry. There is a stepper motor driver IC or an H-bridge configuration of mosfets that I would check. Also the connector(make sure your wire is not flipped over) may have a bad solder joint. It sounds like only one of the 2 motor coils is being driven. To troubleshoot this, you will want to find the motor drive IC, and check the behavior against the datasheet. This is not a parts-swapping repair. This will require deeper troubleshooting and likely a board level repair (new drive IC, H-bridge repair etc).

@@FixitFrank Thanks Frank, that was quick! I've checked the connectivity to the colour wheel and the colour wheel sensor and, in any case, the wheel and sensor work fine when tested on another projector (it has the same CW motor and sensor so I guessed it would work). I'll see what I can work out about the main board. Any idea how to et a schematic? Many thanks.

I think the IC in question is the 14 or 16 pin IC right behind the fan connectors. If you google the part #, that will tell you what the chip is. I have had to replace those a few times.

Hi Franck. Thanks for your great work here! I spotted a little dot on my color wheel and it does not go away with just a dry q-tip... can i add a little bit of water to help cleaning the color wheel?
@FixitFrank
@FixitFrank 3 года назад
You may be safer leaving the spot unless you notice the color not looking correct. A small spot on the color segment should not affect the image. I find that less is more with a projector. However if you do want to remove the spot, apply the liquid to the q-tip rather than the wheel. You don't want the water getting into the motor or the bearing of the color wheel. Water is safe. I have used 90% isopropyl when it was really dirty but I try and stay away from anything that might harm the glass coating.

@@FixitFrank Thanks for your quick and complete answer! Actually I have a spot zone in the projection that looks brighter especially when projecting white. So it is not coming from the color wheel...
