So they have slept together and they awakened the curse. If the curse is awakened, someone in the circle will die. Well, that is what Cassie thinks. Actually it's the curse is made up by her father so that Cassie and Adam will split up. Cassie's father finds a recipe for an elixir that will stop the curse (so actually to destroy their love). Cassie and Adam have to drink this but when they do, they won't love eachother anymore. They will remember everything but just won't feel the same way. The elixir only works on Adam, so Cassie still loves Adam but Adam doesn't anymore. It's killing Cassie. She would do everything to be with him again, but still she would "rather hurt than feel nothing at all"
