Thankyou Robin. Absolutely beautiful, I just love everything about it! Just one tip for the French Knots. If you use a milliners needle (choose the size to match thread thickness) you get a tidier knot and it’s also the same thickness all the way so pulls through easier. Embroidery needles have the large eye and sharp point but you’re trying to pull through a smaller hole. Sorry I waffled! Lol 🙂❤️🇦🇺xxx
@robindudleyhowes
@robindudleyhowes 3 года назад
Oz Jan Thank you so much for that tip I did not know that! Yeah it was pretty hard pulling the knots through I just thought it was because the fabric was so thick. I will use a milliners needle next time😊

Gorgeous, Love your Needle Keep, you added wonderful details. I received my Benzie felt yesterday, you are right, it is wonderful felt. I am ready to get started on my Needle Keep. I really think the little single needle keeper is fun too, good for smaller gifts, Christmas is coming. I am from Yuma, so really enjoyed seeing the old souvenir that you purchased, especially the backwards "Y". Love all you videos, you are so creative and detailed. Thank you for sharing. Blessings.

They make a conditioner in a little blue tiny blue box that you can condition your thread with and it keeps it from tangling it makes it go through your fabric so much smoother I don't know what the name of it is but it's really inexpensive it's like when we used to use beeswax when we were taking sewing and school and theft beeswax works pretty good

Robin -- OMG !! This is wonderful -- and I love that it was so much meaning for you. I love all your vintage "notions," and especially ones from your grandmother and the felted heart from your friend and making it from the jeans you love and the pretty antique lace. I am STILL working on these journals -- I'm slow as molasses -- but when, or if, the dust ever settles around here, I'm making myself one. I also have a few treasures saved from my house fire -- I love textiles, and I have some -- they are not valuable, but they are very pretty and sitting in a box where no one loves them -- so I'm inspired. Girl, I hear you on the heat -- for anyone who has never lived in high temps and high humidity, you can't breathe -- our a/c, which runs really cold, will be set on 68 and the house will still be 78 -- it just can't keep up -- but I learned this trick when I was pregnant in the middle of one of the hottest summers on record -- literally set a bowl of ice in front of a fan -- sounds silly, but works great !!! I hope you're in no danger from the fires -- poor California, you're in my prayers. Take care -- again, lovely lovely project. PS: don't you love making french knots -- about the only thing I remember from embroidering my jeans when I was a teenager !!!

First, WOW! I just love how your creative mind works. I cannot thank you enough for sharing all your talents and treasures with us. I may go broke but who cares when it makes you happy to create the beautiful things that you teach us. Its funny how things come full circle. I used to sew and embroider many moon ago, then crochet, knitting, felting (I think I made 25 pocketbooks out of felt wool starting with the sheep's wool, dying, etc.) and on and on until I recently found junk journals. Now watching you create this needle keep has taken me back and I am so excited to use these products again. Hopefully I still have them. So again, thank you so much for taking the time to teach us these awesome creations of yours. I could go on and on but I will stop now. lol

Hi - the rings with crocheted trim are, I think, shade pulls. If you’re old enough, you may remember shade pulls were on a string with a ring and the ring was bound with thick thread - the rings look just like those shade pull rings and would look very elegant with the additional trim as shown.

You had me at "Sequins and beads" ! This is so pretty, yet functional.The Yuma pin brings back memories of living in the desert, oh so beautiful. Its surprising that they "felt" Merino wool, because it is a very fine wool, nice for garments. My Shetland and Cotswold's Sheep felts like magic, but it is not as soft and fine as Merino. It is good for making 3d items like your felted heart/pin cushion and I may needle felt one. But I've been to the Benzi Design website, and their felt is so nice, easy to check out also.

Life, Health and Wellness Thank you! Yeah the wool that I bought from Benzie’s is part Merino wool and I am going to experiment with felting it I’m not sure how it will turn out. The other wool that I used is a thicker wool and I don’t know if it’s actually Merino or not. I’m excited to experiment with the Benzie’s wool for 3-d designs like the Yuma pendant.

Just popped over from the lovely comment you left on my channel. I’ve just started this little needle case it’s so cute. I saw the pattern on Etsy when searching for something else and couldn’t resist it. Yours looks lovely a real keepsake. I have subscribed, your channel looks very interesting!

Loved your Needle Keep and will check all the referrals you mentioned especially the Damsel's patterns and the felted wool pieces. Thanks a bunch. Was that a pull for a window shade?

thanks Marjean. From what others are saying, seems to be a shade pull, yes!

You ask us for ideas. Would you teach more felting projects? Has anyone else requested a project using felt?
@robindudleyhowes
@robindudleyhowes 3 года назад
Susan Schultheis thanks for the suggestion. No one has asked about felting projects but I bought so much felt that I’m compelled to play around with it so you might see some felt projects popping up in my tutorials.

Well I went to the felt site and bought quite a few! Not all but close. Maybe I could come over your house and play. Lol I am only thousands of miles away.

Check out Vienna Delights on Etsy. I thought the crocheted pieces were napkin rings. They are!

Wonderful tutorial and your attention to detail is amazing. So many little extra touches in your book. Would you be able to tell us how to sign up for your newsletter? I definitely want 2 chances for the drawing!! As to your mystery item, I've seen light cord pulls with just the little circle part and maybe someone just wanted to really decorate it???

Gorgeous! Sorry but did you stitch or glue the pin keeper squares in place? I missed that and apologize if you mentioned it. I was kinda multi tasking while watching and listening and may have missed when you mentioned it.

Hi Robin. Well, it's gorgeous! As I have been making one myself I have the hardest time adding colors that are not in the main fabric. A friend once told me not to be so matchy matchy. Do you have a tip for choosing colors? Thanks for the tutorial!
@robindudleyhowes
@robindudleyhowes 3 года назад
Diane thank you. I tend to use colors and fabrics that I really like and it seems that for me florals work well with stripes or nondescript patterns that don’t interfere. So I try not to use more than five colors whenever I put something together & the rule of thumb is 3 to 5 colors. And then you can use different hues and values of the chosen colors so it looks like there’s a lot more going on but the eye doesn’t get confused and it makes the project more cohesive. Hope that helps
