Nice job! I had M3 Vader seats in my E36 Touring. They were really comfortable and didn’t squeak too much 🤣. E36 door cards are just awful. They always fall to bits.

Yep. They used shitty glue unfortunately, but they can be fixed. Just take your time and do it right with the right glue.

Seats they look cool but i will agree they not very comfy your ones squeak as leather is old and dry loads and loads of leather cream will sort that.

Nice work! And congrats on your new shop! I wish I had so much room instead of my small shed ;-) Question: those new front control arms, are they aluminium or steel? I'm currently restoring an Estoril blue S50 Z3M Coupe that shares a lot of EVO M3 parts, and I'm looking to upgrade to lighter alloy control arms, but I only see the steel ones online here in Europe. Cheers, Kris (from The Netherlands)

Hi! Thanks for feedback They are steel ..haven’t even seen original alloy arms..unless some aftermarket custom stuff

Hi Ed, are you opposed to putting copper grease on threads of exhaust bolts/nuts? I saw you were struggling to remove the semi-seized exhaust hangers on the back, surely it's a good excuse to grease the threads in that scenario? Thanks 👍🏻
@The777Garage

Surely no point greasing as it will dry out eventually in heat

Looking good man, as a E36 M3 (GT) owner I liked the “recommissioning” but I dont like the fact that you spent 2 hours with the wire wheel on the exhaust. Why? Because now I will also have to do it on my GT :D

Doesnt seems like you know a whole lot about e36’s.. the squeaking seats and interior for instance.. bro theyre the interior is more dry than my dead grandma. Clean the leather everywhere, and apply a leather conditioner of some sort. It will work wonders. So will cleaning and detailing of the rest of the interior. I have the same car. Its completely free of sqeaks and rattles. And its not a big job. And while the car does feel “old”, the steering is telepathic, shifter and gear very mechanical and well working, lsd diff silent but works great. Great feedback on the brakes. In short, its a car you drive. Youre not driven. And thats a good thing for a weekend car imo A few tips for other m3 evo owners Upgrade to a braided clutch line, and shim the clutch fork pivot point 1mm further out. And you wont have the low clutch pedal anymore Also, rebuild your vanos and set your valvelash. Its a big difference. So is new maf, various sensors and the correct oil(not 10w60 as it didnt exist when bmw built the engine) Align your car. Buy good tires. Use the eibach springs on oe/oem sachs/boge shocks if you dont want to lower it too much. Car is a blast to drive If i were to change one thing on this car to make it better it would be to swap for an e46 rack or other rack with less turns to turns than the e36 m3 one. And possibly a different muffler out back for more sound

I know these cars better than the back of my hand. Got two at the moment, and had alot of them before. Gret work you did on the restoration, don't get me wrond, I have to salute the thoroughness. But you went with the wrong front control arm bushings. This is an evo, and evos came with different control arms thus the high price... Originally the 3.0 had off centered bushings, but the evo have the centered ones, so your caster angle must be wrong atmo. Also, the vader seats are not original to this car. These seats are 3.0L ones. Evos had slightly different and better vaders, alot more sturdy and thick, with different stitching on the headrest (hence how I know these are not original). Also, these engines, though very durable (one of mine has 250 000miles) need to be treated respectfully. Especially after long starts. Eventhough these car don't suffer from rod bearing issues as much as E46s and E92s, rod bearings need to be checked and replaced around 70/80 000 miles just to be sure. What causes them to be used is counter intuitive. Usually long rest periods between drives is the worst. As when the car starts it is deprived of decent oil pressure. My 250kkm car had very clean ones because it was used daily. On the other hand one of my low mileage ones had very bad ones at approx 40 000 miles... Other bits and bobs : when putting in the new gasket, you should put some liquid gasket between the head and timechain cover. Change the piping underneath the intake as it rots and cracks easily. And paint the exhaust. It's actually not stainless steel, it's just very good quality durable steel and these came out the factory with black paint. Engine needs a valve adjustment as well. To check if vanos is working properly do a pull from 1500 revs to 7600 in second gear should be fine. 3rd is even better. You should distinctively feel a bump in torque around 2500 revs and in power around 5500 revs. I hope we get to see the rest of this car's adventures.

Ohhh wow ..highly appreciated advice and info.. Had same old bushings so assumed they the right ones,but I guess could have been changed in past. Well I guess can’t know everything in the car world..there’s so many out there and technology improves and changes every year

I’ve got exactly the same car and I’ve done exactly the Things i use a company called auto doc in Germany they always deliver within one week I bet you your rear diff seals will start leaking because it’s been sitting so long Mine didn’t get used much just sitting around A lot and as soon as I started using it properly mine started leaking due to the prop shaft position too long Don’t know why you’ve got so many squeaks I do not have one on the interior

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!
