This shape was named after the record breaking movie 'Morbius' which completely revolutionized movie industry forever. Truly one of the most movies humanity can ever produce.
Doubtful. *Your* IQ is already as a big as *you* personally, can make it. Read a definition. And I emphasize, "finite," in the word, "definition." Yeah. I'm saying you aren't exceptionally bright. It's probably best you don't breed.
No, is the other way around, a left handed glove is nothing more than a right handed turned inside out. Wait a minute, if that's the case, one sided glove, a Mobius glove.
This is one of the best StarTalks just by virtue of their easy and relaxed interaction here, like old friends hanging out. I love the laughs they share and when Neil starts singing "We Are the World" I lost it completely.
@jesusbermudez6775what did Columbus discover? I've only heard of the story of him 'discovering' the Americas, of which people had been visiting for centuries prior and inhabiting for quite a while as well. I didn't know he had any actual discoveries other than that illegitimate one
This is literally how avengers endgame explains why they can take the stones from the past and bring them to the future and then replace them in the past like they were never gone
I don't know if there is going to be a better time or place to ask this; I LOVE the idea of mathematical short stories. They combine two of my favourite things! Can Startalk or anyone out there recommend a book for me? I had no idea this sort of thing even existed and it has me very excited. Please respond to this if you have any ideas, I am highly interested.
We are blessed to see such intellectual people on a platform with only a few clicks. Imagine having video recordings of any of the intellectual greats of our history with such ease. What a blessing
The coolest thing about Mobius strips: If you take two Mobius strips that have opposite chirality (ie one is twisted to the left and one to the right) and tape them together, and then cut them in half, you end up with two interlocking hearts.
Hey Neil, I literally just had a BackPack called "Mobius" delivered Today by TenTree, they are an organization that plants 10 trees around the world for every item purchased 😃 Just thought you might get a thrill out of the calculable chance of that phenomenon (+ they use the recycled materials of 31 bottles, reclaimed pond algae that cleans up water & recycled scraps from their factory floor to make the bag ♻️) Awesome episode, happy holidays & a wonderful New Years to you & all of the Star Talk Crew!
Many years ago, when my kids were young, we were very broke. So broke that a friend lent us a pre-lit fake Christmas tree. We had no decorations at all. (The tree had only clear lights.) My kids were sad that we didn't have decorations. What I did have was a metric F ton of printer paper. We sat at the table and made Mobius strips of many, many sizes to decorate the tree. It was magnificent! One of our favorite trees! (Dad taught me about Mobius strips when I was very young, so I handed down the magic.)
This is the first time in all of my 24 years and seven months where I truly don't understand something, even after it was explained in a simple way, and I'm a bonafide nerd/geek. I saw how it happened but still cannot understand why.
I've been a huge fan of you for a while neil and you played a huge role in inspiring me to pursue astrophysics when I go to college next year. Thank you for the content :)
Theres an infinity line running through any cube which means you can scale an image of a cube so it goes small to infinity or large to infinity. When you draw a cube there are bisecting lines you can use to draw a cube within a cube. Its similar to holding a mirror in front of a mirror, A, B, AB, O
Holy cow! That's so cool. Upon watching this, I feel that Neil deGrasse Tyson is a 4th dimensional being demonstrating his knowledge of hyperspace to earthling Chuck and You Tube viewers. 👽
A nice easy way to demonstrate the handedness would be to draw a circle on it and indicate clockwise or counterclockwise and then while keeping a part of it flat feed it through until it becomes the other
@jesusbermudez6775 Well, different folks get excited about different things. My kid loves _both_ Science _and_ Arts & Crafts. This involves both, so it right up her alley. May your daughter find some kind of pursuit that provides fascination and joy...preferably something safe and legal, of course. 😉
