"It totally changed my life." It sure did Neil. You grew up to look just like Donald Pleasence!

Completely agree with everything here - one thing he didn't mention that had a HUGE effect on me as a kid was the computer animation at the beginning explaining the new york prison island. Those cold graphics and idea burned into my head.

Amazing film from the master- John Carpenter.

Great video. Though, it does remind me of how much I'd love to see John Carpenter do some commentaries for TFH. You guys should totally try to get him on the site!

Note that Carpenter had also previously worked with Russell, who starred in his made-for-TV "Elvis" a couple years prior.

Mr. Marshall gave a nice nod to this in his underrated Doomsday.

More than a nod. He was lifting royally from EFNY and a number of other films that had taken his fancy in the early 80s.

This was a fantastic movie, as is Mr. Marshall's The Descent. Doomsday wasn't too fantastic, though ...

FUN FACT: short hair girl who gets pulled down beneath floor when Snake is hiding from "Crazies" was Kurt Russell's wife in REALITY at the time.

If EFNY ever does get a remake it should be Neil Marshall who makes it. He already kinda did with Doomsday. Personally though I hope there is no remake. Leave well alone.

Subversive post punk sci-fi western action at it's best. One of my all time favorites, and holds up surprisingly well. Snake dies game over. Campbell freaking out

Love it ... "BEETA-max". Do the Brits pronounce the entire Greek alphabet differently? ;-) just kidding!

They seriously need to stop re-making old movies. You simply cannot out-do a classic. And NO remake has ever truly been better than the original, at least not as far as bonafide classics are concerned.

What about The Wizard Of Oz and The Maltese Falcon?

As was The Maltese Falcon, also.

Mayhem5150 There hasn't been any MAJOR remake attempt at Oz yet (there have been, none major). Don't worry, they'll get around to it. But it still won't ever really surpass the classic adaptation.

poopmaster13 the Judy Garland version is a remake. The Wizard of OZ was filmed in 1910, 1925, & 1933 before the classic we all know in 1939. The Maltese Falcon is another classic that had two versions before the 1941 Bogart classic in 1931 & 1936 by the name of Satan Met A Lady. Hollywood will never stop revisiting what worked before. Call it tradition. Don't forget though The Wiz was a major remake, or reinvention, of the 1939 Oz movie.

One of Carpenters better films, but a film that's not really sure who it's target audience is meant to be 🎬🎥🤔
