Much underrated comedy. Peter Falks performance is one of the funniest ever caught on film. "Hold Me Sam" "I'm busy. Hold Yourself"

When I first saw this, I was probably 6 or 7. My mother had to tell me that Inspector Wang was also Inspector Clouseau. I was like "That is Peter Sellers"? Absolutely incredible and hilarious with lots of adult inside jokes I didn't get until years later. I am 38 now and I can't wait to watch this with my mother again in the next few days. A comedy that will never grow old.

I LOVE this movie. I loved it so much, I bought the DVD and have watched it I don't know how many times! And to be able to see all these wonderful actors -- many of whom we've lost -- is amazing. One of my favorite lines in the movie is when Sam Diamond yells, "Nobody move! I have to go to the can and I don't want to miss anything!" Just like Sam, watching it over and over again, you see new things that you missed the first, second, third.... time. A true Classic!!!

I’ll always have good memories of this movie because I showed it to my grandparents when I was living with them 30 years ago. They knew all the actors from their generation and thought the film was so great, and they laughed their asses off. ❤

I was introduced to this movie at age 4. My father was a Peter Sellers fan. We watched it again when it went to the dollar movies and any time it would come on TV. I eventually found it on VHS in high school and DVD as an adult. I watch it every Father’s Day (today) in honor of my father. It is classic ❤

1987. My elderly parents and my elderly visiting uncle and aunt were sitting on the couch together. They were set to watch some boring CBS news documentary. I walked past them and inserted this VHS cassette into the player. Awhile later I had to use the bathroom and passed by them. My aunt's jaw was wide open in awe, lol. None of them were expecting what they saw.

I love this movie and I actually thought Truman Capote was great in the Lionel Twain role. I don't see why people hated his acting, to me it worked strongly. I remember reading Murder on the Orient Express, and getting to the end of the story where lo and behold, more information was added in the last few pages making the mystery impossible for the reader to solve, and that whole speech came flooding back into my head "You withheld clues and information, you tortured us with surprise endings that made no sense!" It just made me smile knowing that Twain had bested all those self important detectives in the end.

I also remember this movie fondly. Saw it in the theater. The female characters totally steal every scene. My favorite line is by Maggie Smith when they question the butler (or was it the maid?). "ask him if he sleeps in, Dickie." Nivens reaction as he considers the pertenece of the question, but also wants to know the answer,... is priceless!! Simon mentions a sequel here. Is it the Cheap Detective?? What was the sequel. I believe this storyline was finished by the end of this movie.

@RickHaydnHorst my guess would be because they have never read the books or seen the movies that this movie is a comedic homage to ... or know any of the original actors in these iconic roles, let alone the quality of actors cast by Simon ... and they will probably have to look up the definition of homage ..... :)

A movie should entertain a person. No special formula. Maybe I'm showing a bad side of me by saying how much I liked this movie. (in response to the negative review from Yorick Jenkins) Obviously, one way to determine how much you like a movie is your willingness to watch it over and over. That is what I have done with this movie. Watched it over and over.
