This demo for "Birds" by Neil Young featuring Graham Nash was originally recorded during the sessions for Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young's seminal album Deja Vu. The deluxe version of Deja Vu, featuring hours of outtakes, alternate versions, and demos, is available to now at Rhino.lnk.to/D....
Presented in a 12 x 12 book, the collection comes illustrated with rarely seen photos from the era and annotated by writer/filmmaker Cameron Crowe, whose revealing liner notes recount the making of the album through stories told by the people who were there, including David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young.

Lyrics:
Lover,
there will be another one
Who'll hover
over you beneath the sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today
When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go
It's over, it's over.
Nestled
in your wings my little one
is special
Morning brings another sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today
When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go
It's over, it's over.

I've listened to this song hundreds of times before. Until now, reading the lyrics along with listening to the song, I only now appreciate how poetically brilliant it is. They gave the Nobel prize to Dylan recently. Why not Neil Young?

I am a huge admirer, but I don't think Neil's lyrics stand up as literature as Dylan's does, and I am a huge fan of Bob's. One guy in Year of the Horse (film) said, "it's like, the Neil Young-universe..." I agree w/ that stoned-out fellow.

Why not? He makes Dylan look bad on a guitar! Hell Dylan recruited Tom Petty to be his lead player in the Day. Cause knew couldn't play .He's a Poet and he knew it. Young is both and probably better at both!

So true they were both ground breaking and fearless in their Artistry ,, and stayed true to that as they never sold their souls or sold out. They continued on creating Art and lyrical tapestries ,, Neil Young exploring new collaborations and Joni as a Painter in her box of Paints,, as she always described herself ,, A painter first . Search Jonius early TV appearances in Canada / Johnny Cash and a rare concert for Much Music .. The Magdeline Laundries A must,, I am a Canadian ..Eh

The "After the Gold Rush" LP literally changed my life. Neil spoke to the turbulent times of the late 1960’s - early 1970’s in a poetically esoteric manner that spoke to and resonated with so many of us of that era. The social injustices, the war, the hope and a reckoning for an enlightened future are all represented within that album. As unsettling as it is, I don’t think circumstances have changed all that much except for the “hope” part.
