Neither Wolf Nor Dog - Native American Movie Trailer 

I just saw this movie at the GFT here in Glasgow. Totally blown away by it. I and the rest of the audience in the theatre hall sat in silence for quite some time just watching the credits roll. I assume everyone was the same as me just sitting there reflecting on what we just watched. Bravo, to the director, the actors and of course the author. What a movie.

I don't even have words for how important this book is to the dialogue between Natives and whites in this country. I grew up surrounded by Ojibwe culture and people, even have family that is Ojibwe--but this book gave me a brand new perspective. How much more for those so removed from the plight of the American Indian in the US. So salient at this time when we should all be standing with the Standing Rock Tribe #NoDAPL

I want to watch this so badly! I will eternally be grateful to my professor here in Austria, who made me and so many of my colleagues aware of the situation of the indigienous of the Americas. Ever since then, I've been spreading the knowledge, especially to my American relatives. I wish and pray that the situation will improve! Unbelievable what the governments were and are doing...

Oh man the book was amazing. I have to put it down for a week or two after each chapter and meditate on the words written. Really didn't think of them making a movie.

I read the book when it first came out. I am fairly well read in Native American literature. But this book was different. It made me have so much more insight as to what the Native americans hold, mean, carry... for us as white settlers in the modern world now. In this time.. The book is so real. So "in there" with the why the culture is what it is now. The losses and what still holds true inside the reservation and to us all, in this lost world now. We have lost 'the way'. I feel the pain in this book. And the revelations. I saw the movie for the first time Monday, what is recognized as Indiginous day in Aspen Colorado at the Native American Film festival there. A few relatives from the the Rez was there for a bit of Q and A afterwards. Forgiveness is huge for what "Americans" did to the Native people. I was humbled by this message. We need to heal these big wounds. Roger Baril, Paonia Colorado. Yes... Standing with the Standing Rock. I honor that so much!

I didn't know, there is a film. Thank you! In my opinion "Neither wolf nor dog" is one of the most important books in the world. I always have to cry, reading it. The book has changed my mind in an incredible way: I learned that real respect means, to let go romanticism about native people and to take care not to touch their holy things, rituals and symbols. I am german and when the book was published in Germany for the first time at '97 it was titled "Die letzen heiligen Dinge" = "the last holy things". I guess the problem of my white culture is, that we still search for roots, telling us about our identity - so our love to native people may be big, but not mature. We are longing for something we've lost. Especially in Germany, where the dictatorship of nationalsocialism abused the north european native roots, we are always in danger to "colonize" other cultures to find something to hold on - we see it, love it and want to HAVE it. "Neither wolf nor dog" won't solve this problem - but it opens our whitey eyes to take care and be respectful in our contact with other cultures.

I have read many, many books on Native Americans, took classes with NA professors, purchased cpies of most movies which show NAs in a reasonably authentic light and I just found out about this movie and book two minutes ago. People are seeing this movie in Europe but not here in the US? Seriously?

What does "white" mean? I went and worked out in 2004, and I passed out, dehydrated. There were colors, there was music around my paralyzed body. That happened in Oregon. Since the census man forced his view that I must not write "other" but check "white", I just think Caucasian and whatever because I near-death danced and the thing is, I identify with Japanese culture which is like the indigenous somewhere and I'm tired, want to fight tubby census man no more forever.
