One benefit of the double wall tent over a single wall tent like the zpacks, is less of a condensation issue, especially if you are touching the walls. And thank you for bringing up the durability of the floor. Good to know. I have an xmid 1 on the way, heehee. Cheers!
I agree about the condensation. I use single wall tents often and they have not really had a problem for me. I know there are certain areas of the country where I would definitely use a double wall tent.
The mesh is not a "no see" mesh, it's a "no see-um" mesh. They weren't originally developed for privacy, they were developed to keep small biting insects often referred to as "no-see-ums" due to their small size from reaching you while inside the tent.
Thank you for sharing that I did not know. I've always had it explained that it helped create more privacy. I learn something new every day. Having a community like this makes us all so much more knowledgeable.
@@BackpackingGearNut Privacy is I think a fringe benefit, but that wasn't the original goal. The No-see-um meshes were a response to the fact that no-see-ums could sneak through the original bug meshes. They were very annoying when in cabins that had screened windows, because the screens couldn't keep out the no-see-ums.
@@RakeshMalikWhiteCrane he was right, and you are half right. It is No-see-um mesh because it keeps the bug with the same nickname out. But tent manufacturers have been using white, light grey or yellow mesh as it’s also a privacy mesh for about ten + years. Big Agnes uses yellow and it’s hideous. I personally hate it as it’s hard to see the stars and I am not modest in the back country. The other version of this tent has white mesh on the sides and black on top for stargazing. The more you know.
Greetings from Eureka M,T…I need to do one good one on this Nemo dagger osmo 2p. I’ve never done a video though. Set it up once haven't got to use it out in the wild yet though. Will see how she does soon!
For what it's worth, I chose the Hornet OSMO (Not Elite). For 7oz more it's slightly wider, slightly taller, slightly larger vestibule, and presumable more robust floor (1500mm rated vs 1200mm....which implies it must be thicker). Oh, and black mesh top for star gazing. Also $220 cheaper. But as someone else pointed out, it does only have 1 flybar where the older non-OSMO version had 2.
Thanks for the review, very informative, but they "Nemo" need to reconsider their price point. Dyneema would be a first choice, for the money, in my opinion over ripstop anyday!
The funny thing is they offered me the patch kit and told me I needed to give them my address and they would send it to me, so I responded and gave them my address. It's been almost 2 weeks, and they haven't responded again. That was just a cheap little patch kit. Believe it or not, I have many of their products and like them. But this is the first time I've ever had a problem with them, and now I might have to think twice about spending money on their products. I'm OK with issues, but if you're going to constantly talk about how good your warranties and customer service are, then deliver. No product is perfect, and I can accept that.
Nemo still makes some great products; I think they missed the mark on this one. I love the weight and the tent's design, but I do not like the fabric. I need something I can feel confident in. I will definitely put out a long-term video later after I have had more time in it.
@@BackpackingGearNut I do like my Nemo Tensor pad, and some of the other Nemo products, but one company can't do everything well - think Big Agnes backpacks. Again, thanks for the report, the material, and lack of headroom are deal breakers for me.
I don't think the answer to having a light tent is making the fabric too thin on the floor. I realize they keep the ground cloth separate so they can claim the weight is 7 ounces less than it is, but you can't use this tent without the ground cloth, so just weave that material into the floor and call it done. That would make it a lot stronger.
I don’t use it very often. I love the design as a 1 + person tent. After I made the video they released the regular Nemo hornet as an Osmo fabric; from the stats, it looks durable. To answer your other question, I’ve only used it four times since then because I’m afraid of using it. The last time I used it, I accidentally tripped on the guideline as I was standing up from hammering the tent stakes in, and, about a 2 foot section of the seam ripped out on the backside. The bummer is I really like Nemo’s products. But this one just didn’t work out for me. I do look forward to getting the regular hornet Osmo.
Would you consider doing a follow up series on some of your popular reviews? I would sure love to tune in to see videos like this, since IMO those are the reviews that actually matter anyways 😊 Especially knowing what you just typed, making me kinda not want to get it if its so fragile to be honest! I subbed to be honest, I like your vibes man! Great videos!
Tent looks absolutely terrible. At least here in the UK Nemo isn't a big brand 😂 this is absolutely no better than the much more affordable Lanashan tents.
I would say that the Lanashan 2 pro is better than this tent because it's in the same weight category at a third of the price, and I feel like the material is more durable. Trekking pole tents have an advantage. They can have thicker/more robust material because they don't have to compensate for the weight of the tent poles.
@@BackpackingGearNut yeah! Agree with everything here. Only downside to the Lanashan that I have experienced is the are REALLY bad for condensation. Your always hoping for a dry day once you get home to get the tent hung out and aired before packing away for a while.
@@dougieranger ha I'm from Scotland anaw 😂 I'm fairly new to wild camping/solo camping as for a mat I went with the trekology one you can get on Amazon for around £40 it's wide and really thick. R value isn't great but I don't really plan on camping in extreme temps. I use a folding foam foil mat for under my pad. Works ok with a decent sleeping bag/quilt
Keep coming back and finding some of your older videos that are super helpful. If you are ever out here in Utah your always invited on a backpacking trip!
Sorry for the late response I think that would be wonderful! I actually want to get back to working on my RU-vid channel. It’s been a while since I’ve made a video because my mother-in-law is in hospice at our house. And I’ve been the one to take care of her. She is close to the end. Maybe a week or two. Not wishing bad for her but when it’s all over, I’ll be able to start leaving the house again. thank you for the encouragement! When I start getting out again, if you wanna come over to the Donner area, there’s a tremendous amount of trails around here, including the PCT. Looking forward to someday backpacking with you.
@@BackpackingGearNut hey sorry I didn’t see your message! Sorry to hear about your mother in law and best wishes to your family. Would love to plan an epic trip in the future! And also if you ever want to talk video ideas I think I have a video series idea that could be good 👍
I have many Nemo products and built up confidence in them. This is the first product I have bought of theirs that I wish I wouldn't have purchased. I made a joke about the pillows I have from Nemo because they slide off my pad. But I actually really like their pillows. I do wish they would put pads straps on them, but I put them on myself.
I love everything nemo. I was gifted the hornet elite 2p (previous model) last year. Beautiful quality and they make some of the best gear around. Love my nemo sleep system as well. Great review
