NEMOPHILA - DISSENSION (REACTION) 

Yes they started doing covers and specifically they started as a live band called Mayu Session; supposed to be one-off live show band. Their first original track was OIRAN. As the name implies, its assembled by mayu (ex-LIPSTICK vocalist as Sindy) assisted by her high school friend, Haraguchi-san (ex-HöLDERLINS bassist). They managed to get hold of Murata Tamu (ex-SORAMIMI drummer) who is a very famous solo drummer in Japan with massive reputation as one of the best and versatile prolific new age drummer. They still need a guitarist so mayu managed to contact SAKI (ex-Destrose guitarist) through mutual friend and asked if she is interested for a session or knew someone who might because SAKI is the founder and organizer for World Guitar Girls Collection (WGGC) project that bring forward talented Japanese female rock/metal guitarists. SAKI, who is very busy being in 2 different bands (Mary's Blood and AMAHIRU) wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to play alongside Tamu (prominent drummer in SAKI's WGGC project) answered YES! to both questions. She showed up with her friend Hazuki, a well respected heavy metal guitarist of Disqualia. She worked as a sessionist for Rami and Li-sa-X since Disqualia's activities were put on hold. The arrivals of two technical guitarists concluded Mayu Session's final line-ups of superb veteran quintet. Mayu Session was confirmed to perform live at Shinjuku Wild Side, Tokyo for 'Summer Game' event in August 2019. The news that metal guitar goddess SAKI will be performing alongside drums goddess Tamu, together in one band, travelled fast and eventually became the 'talks of the town'. About 2 weeks before their confirmed live show, Mayu Session was booked for their second live show on 5th September 2019 at the same venue for 'Dig up! Your Wonderland!' event. They hadn't even performed their one-off live show yet but already booked for a second show, which seemed to broke the original one-off deal. During those times, little did they knew that there will be endless show for all of them together as a band. Every member have years of experience being in a band but never played together before. Some members didn't even know each other with different personalities and musical preference. However, during their first show, they hit off immediately on stage when all their wisdom and years of experience kicks-in, triggered them to play their integral parts naturally in completing the whole performance. Every one of them are capable to hold their own and being on equal footing with each other and there were no second guessing so they just enjoying the moment having fun performing, smiling and laughing together, owning the stage while their audience went crazy with lots of excitement. Perhaps too much fun for the band members that they don't want it to end but the show ended and everyone is overjoyed. Despite their differences in many aspect, Mayu felt good seeing the band members really enjoyed each others' company both on and off the stage; and realized that this is what she had always imagined to have in a band. As all the band members felt the same, Mayu Session was re-instated as one-off live show deal, disbanded after their first show; and NEMOPHILA was summoned for the first time at Shinjuku Wild Side, Tokyo on 5th September with the most important mission, to cover for Mayu Session's slot and recreate the same atmosphere as before. Eventually, they proved that they were indeed better than Mayu Session and later announced that NEMOPHILA landed their first appearance for their own slot in METAL WEEKEND 2019 event at Zepp Diver City, Tokyo. NEMOPHILA performed twice during METAL WEEKEND 2019, opening up for two heavy metal legends, LOUDNESS and HAMMERFALL on two different days. On both occasions, the organizer introduced NEMOPHILA as the "Super Girls Metal Band" and no question asked on that 'title' as all the band members are no strangers to Japanese rock/metal scene with several decades of experience between them; and individually regarded as a reputable seasoned musician. And that's basically how NEMOPHILA came into existence and became major attention in Japanese metal scene and beyond.

Along with their obvious technical prowess, what really makes this band stand out for me is how that fantastic chemistry between them is communicated to the audience. This seems to happen regardless of whether something is live or in the studio. The result is through-the-roof charisma.

They just released a new cover of Journey today that is fire!

It's nothing unusual that they're all from different bands, it's even more common in Japan if musicians have more than one band (or group or solo activities) at a time. In Nemophila's case, guitarist Saki (the one with the red hair here), one of the most famous female guitarists in Japan, is in Mary's Blood since 2012, one of the more famous (female) metal bands in Japan. The other guitarist Hazuki also plays in Li-sa X's band, they recently released their 2nd (I think) single. Mayu is the former vocalist of Lipstick, but they weren't that famous (as far as I know). Bassist Haraguchi-san is a former high school classmate of Mayu, but I don't know if she was in any known band before. Drummer Murata Tamu (Murata Ai is her real name) was formerly in a band called SORAMIMI, but she is mainly known as one of the most respected session musicians in Japan. Also, I have to agree with your guy in chat that prefer Mayu's live vocals, especially in Dissension (I always prefer live when it comes to Japanese bands), but the live version that's on RU-vid is from a festival (NAON no YAON), so you shouldn't expect great sound.

the fact they are barely in 20`s is just mindblowing

Try Raitei or Oiran next as they were their first few singles. They are still independent so their sound techs are not supplied by some mega record company. Their last live concert, only their 3rd in front of an audience due to Covid was very good. Sometimes there have been issues uploading their livestreams (which sounded good) onto RU-vid. The upload to RU-vid is lesser quality. They are still amazing though. Smiles, musician skills and metal variety is how id sum them up. 💙 Love Nemophila.🤘🎤🥁🎸🎵🌸
