@@th3azscorpio I mean, not only he helped shinji with depression(kinda tho)he also made him feel loved for the first time so of course he would be memorable,oh and also he has a LOT of gay vibes, and is handsome by anime standards for that time,so yeah
this is an interesting point. the Angels only figured this out after looking into Asuka's mind and seeing her past. maybe they learned that, like the doll which Asuka's mom loved as a daughter, the Angels could infiltrate the hearts of humans by pretending to be one themselves
I remember seeing this episode for the 1st time and that final scene with Kaworu in EVA-01's grasp and the fucking swelling orchestra. Had chills for days about it
@@theultimatelifeform4121 well he still gave a lore drop and made understanding A.T fields easier.Like he explains what are Eva units and what is the A.T field
Idk if you've watched end of evangelion since making this comment but i'd recommend watching it. It'll answer your question and then some.@@edgarb.6187
A lot of people debate whether or not this scene shows that Shinji is gay. I think that whether or not he is is irrelevant. Shinji saw that Kaworu actually cared about him, he longs for a connection with someone romantic or not.
shinji was primarily lost, kaworu came into his life at a moment where his other relationships with asuka, misato, and rei were in turmoil and shinji was not only comforted by kaworu's calming and endearing presence but also saw kaworu as a rolemodel of sorts. kaworu is an amazing pilot, musician, attractive, etc. so it was very sincere to shinji that someone so talented like that could appreciate someone like him. that being said it is proven later in the show that shinji did truly love kaworu. before the second impact the lilith rei hybrid tranformed into him to calm shinji's AT field, as he's the only true person who could do such. not to mention now they canonically have wedding rings, a relationship in alternate rebuilds, etc. so ya kawoshin shippers stay winning
Shinji must’ve done some devious things in his past life because god is deadass hating on him. A 14 year old with nothing, gain a family only to end up losing everyone. God sent him an angel only for him to go “Sike, you thought!” and have him killed off. Bro can (not) catch a break.
In the original series, it takes Shinji a long while to kill Kaworu. The scene where Unit 01 is holding Kaworu in his hand goes for quite a while. I always took it as Shinji's eternal struggle and grief and heavily debating to finish the mission or not. Finally found the love he craved (that all humans crave) and of course, there's strings attached like usual. It's insane that Shinji rejected instrumentality. He has every right to be jaded and angry.
2:38 man, how i ever missed that part? Angels could literally merge with the Evas if they didn't had souls prior to it with 01 having Shinji mom and 02 Asuka mom... and thats also why 00 is so easily... er... influenced by other evas? and why 03 was just, completelly taken over asap?
the way that Kaworu acted when he saw lilith would mean that himself, along with all of the other angles must have believed that Adam (the first angel) was actually underneath the nerv HQ and not lilith.
I really wish it was Kaworu who confronted Arael. Maybe Kaworu would be sickened with the way it tried to self harm others with their deep memories as almost if he became some sort of lucifier figure.
He does become Adam again in EoE, implying his soul was salvaged after his defeat. Adam temporarily appears as a giant naked Kaworu to nullify Eva Unit 01's AT Field and calm Shinji. He just lets Lilith continue the instrumentality later, as he has nothing to do with the Lilin, descendants of Lilith.
@@blutroyale8072 wait I thought it was Lilith turning into Kowaru? she could see shinji was in a state of panic and shock and quickly turned into the thing he cherished most.. or maybe I always thought wrong
@@spooky4988 That is true, but right before Rei fused with Lilith, Gendo made her fuse with Adam, too. That's what that whole thing was when he pushed his hand into her. That was the hand that had the embryo of Adam fused to it. Essentially, that being was a combination of Adam, Lilith, and Rei.
i find it funny how the scene just changes in 2:10 to express our thoughts we were like that boy is suspicious and then it gets real when he starts flying
I think him dying was actually him destroying his AT field (his body), so he would be welcomed into Rei, whose field was also reported to have manifested (they did not know it was her though), probably disappearing temporarily. He didn't want to cause the Impact like that. He wanted it to be Shinji's choice. But his body was compelled to obey and try to reunite before he could get anyone's consent. At least, that was my interpretation, since I believe he's supposed to be Lucifer. Some of the last Angels did seem more like poor communicators than Apocalypse bringers after all.
he somehwhy scary af to me feels like the kind of character that increases whatever is deep down in ur heart to eleven, and doing so while remaining totally calm/make it seem he had no saying in determining it
Y'know. I know that Tabris is the 17th Angel, but doesn't he have Adam's--the 1st Angel's--soul? Still, I thought it was kinda funny even he didn't realize that Unit 01 was created using Lilith and 'not' Adam, on top of Lilith being the one held in Terminal Dogma.
because the material that used to create both the unit 1 and unit 2 are essentially the same alien god stuff..just different source he notice that the giant alien god in the middle of the blood lake is not adam but instead lilith because he notice the soul inside of lilith was not one similar to his
He didn't know Lilith was in Terminal Dogma because Seele tricked him that it was Adam there. And yes he does have Adam's soul like Rei has Lilith's Soul.
@@Kami-sama.isekai That's the thing. You'd think that Angels, particularly so called 'Seeds of Life' like Adam and Lilith would be able to notice something like that. Rei at least figured out to stay the hell away from the weirdo the moment she saw him.
@@sleepyprinny Rei didn't stay away from him because he was a weirdo but it's because she knows that both of them are one and the same as Rei go after Shinji to Terminal Dogma. And Rei bringing support to Shinji & Kaworu in 3.33. But like how Rei persnoallyt is. She could care less about Kaworu since Rei only loves Shinji.
@@Kami-sama.isekai I never said that Rei stayed away from Kaworu bc he was a weirdo, even though he is. But bc of the off feeling his very presence gave her. Way to focus on the wrong thing tho. My point was that she was more than a little wary and guarded around him the instant they met bc she 'could sense what he was' even if she wasn't quite sure it was Adam himself, though she 'did' figure that out. That wariness was shown pretty clearly in the anime. And hard to forget since Rei herself isn't typically prone to strong displays of emotion.
Holy cow. The version that made it through the censor back in my days cut out so much and changed so much of the dialogue, just to get rid of the sexual undertones. No wonder it took my cousin 2 failed marriages before he finally came out as gay. Dude was literally not even allowed to know that gays exist.
I find it confusing on why Misato is questioning on where Kaworu came from and not that fact he’s in the middle of a massive lake and he’s standing in the middle of it NOT WET AT ALL. 1:48 Also is it just me or is Kaworu’s neck to long? 3:25
hes such a cuuuute boy omgg i love hi ms soooo much my mom also loves him (she wants to do things with him) omggggg wopooooooooooo my sister played him once in some theatre play or something im gonna go to schoo lnow guys goodbvyeee love from sweden
Kaoru in anime: Sweet and nice guy who helped Shinji become happier. Kaoru in manga: kills the kitten and called Rei idiot for sacrificing herself to save Shinji.
Listen, Kaworu's behavior here is just normal human behavior when not constrained by pathological civilized norms. Trying to dissect and categorize it into recognized sexual orientations is perverse and will lead to misunderstanding.
@@70memories only the anime is canon. It's a message of affection and secure attachment which most people lack. It's a message of transformative power. Categorizing it into an orientation is misguided. It's like watching premodern tribal males hold hands and arguing over whether it's gay or not. The real question is who is lonely.
@@Tattlebot in the anime original dub, he says: "I love you" that in Japan is never common, even parents themselves never say that to their children, yes, as crude as it may sound, and even hideaki confirmed that in posters of the anime, sadly or not, as it might sound for you, he is homosexual. Also, this confirmed by himself in the anime, because he is the "angel" of free will, he could have just destroyed the world or search another way to do so after finding out the Adam he was searching was actually Lilith, but he instead chose to die, so, returning to topic, he felt in love with Shinji and, even Shinji himself blushes, in the same way, Kaworu was trying to hide himself as other chosen child and not being differentiated from others to enter to the central dogma and fuse with Adam
I don’t really like Kaworu. He just seems more manipulative and disingenuous. Maybe it’s because I knew that he was an angel before I watched the series, but I never really got attached to him, or even got the sense that he actually cared about Shinji. To me, it feels more like he’s using the “more flies with honey” strategy. I felt more emotion from the scenes where Arael speaks to Asuka and Armisael speaks to Rei than an entire episode with Kaworu. He isn’t even the first angel to communicate with Shinji. That honor goes to Leliel. There’s a bit more to say about the way Kaworu makes Shinji fight Unit 02 and the behavior of the MPEs, but I’ve gone on for long enough for now. Also, during the long pause when Unit 01 is holding him and about to kill him, I actually said “I want that twink obliterated.”
