Nepalese climbers make first K2 winter summit - BBC News 

These climbers are real superhumans. Climbing the most difficult mountain in the world with -65C temps. It takes 6 days just to reach that mountain and then the climbing part starts. K2 starts where other mountains end. This is just an incredible achievement. So happy for the Nepali team.

Love how Nims kept addressing the Climbing Community and not just the Sherpas or the Nepalese Climbers in general. He is a total badass and a savage. Much love and respect to all the Sherpas. They are finally getting the recognition that was long overdue.

Just to break the silliness in the comments about BBC's horrendous journalism, climbing K2 was previously thought to be impossible due to how more dangerous it is than climbing in the summer. If the summer climbing season already sees a 1 in 4 death rate among climbers, then we have to understand that a winter climb like this is all the more a great victory for mankind. And who better to take the trophy than these Nepalese climbers who've always been overshadowed by Western tourists who only hire them as guides?

We are proud that someone was able to climb k2. The govt. Of pakistan is providing all possible facilities to national as well as international climbers in this regard.

Sherpas are the unsung heroes of the mountains, serving as the porters of the westerners aiming to climb the challenging Himalayan peaks. However, seldom are they mentioned by the western media, prefering to spotlight the westerners when summiting a peak . In effect, if it hadn't been for them, climbing peaks higher than 8000 m would be a pipe dream for the whole west.Now,having climbed the killer mountain in winter, they proved who is the eternal ruler of the mountain.

I'm so happy for these guys. They absolutely deserve a climbing achievement like this given their long history of making other prominent climbers look good.

Proud of these men.These brave men have contributed to put recognition of Nepal on global stage more than any Nepali politicians have ever dreamed of.

Much respect to Nims and his climbing team. A feat to accomplish in mountaineering history. Especially on K2, the Holy Grail of mountaineering. The grandest prize and the sternest challenge. The mountain of mountains. I've been obsessed with K2 ever since I first saw the picture taken by Vittorio Sella during the 1909 Italian expedition. To those who never made it back from the mountains, you're never forgotten.

Nirmal Pujara is not only a great climber, he is also extremely intelligent. He combines amazing skills with meticulous planning, a true visionary. Looking forward to reading his book.

Just a few months ago I saw the documentary on Netflix "14 Peaks". I now I find this. And so fitting he did this WITHOUT oxygen. To put a sock in the mouths of those who criticized him for using oxygen during the 14 Peaks project. He has to be one of the greatest climbers who ever lived. Without question!

Prayers needed for 3 climbers (stuck on K2 due to weather as predicted by senior guides, still no news or any sign of them) it's been like 5 days now, rescue operation is being held by Pak army, Pak & Foreign climbers. I hope they'll survive IN SHA ALLAH.

Wow……what a super human achievement and sooooo fitting that the toughest mountaineering achievement of all …..summiting the Savage Mountain in Winter no less….. was accomplished finally, for the first time in history, by a Nepalese team of expert Sherpas…who thanks to the vagaries and unfairness of history have for far too long been relegated to supporting roles and footnotes in mountaineering literature…..but no more!! Thanks Nims and the entire team…… and those who have not done it yet go watch the other Nimsdai documentary on Netflix 14 peaks which is about summiting all 14 tallest peaks on the planet in a 6 months breaking the previous record of 7 years …..now THAT is an achievement 👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏…. It’s like breaking the 2+ hr. Marathon record by completing it in say, single digit mins….just comparing you know ????? To show you just WHAT AN INSANE ACHIEVEMENT it is by these Sherpa Tigers of the snow!!!!
