Neptunia on Switch is coming to the West and it doesn't look that great

Another case of a bad porting. But I seriously don’t get why it’s so dark... There are some games with awesome lighting on the Switch like Luigi‘s Mansion 3 or even Animal Crossing New Horizons, so it can’t be the console, just poor porting.

Damn, I'm fine with it not looking as good but that perfomance looks rocky at best, price tag's also likely gonna be steep considering how dirt cheap the game gets on Steam. If the game doesn't do too well on Switch I really hope IF sees it as a reflection of a subpar port rather than there just being no interest on the platform.

Not really surprising that the game performs worse and looks a lot worse as well. But no consistent 30 FPS is a no-go... What they could have done is to drop the resolution to like 900p or 720p so that framerate would be okay but yeah... I think that's how the Disgaea Switch ports do it? Correct me if I'm wrong. Also the lighting on the Switch is quite underwhelming... Overall the game looks just dark outside of battle. I mean I haven't seen many other dungeons than the first one, but it is probably gonna be the same for the entire game. Anyway, really nice video. I think all the most important things were mentioned and it'll really help people who have been considering getting VII on Switch. Really enjoyed the video.

I don't really see the point in porting it to the Switch, especially if there aren't any improvements. Don't misunderstand, I think Nep games have a promising future on the Switch, but it would have made more sense for them to port the Re;Birth trilogy instead given that VII is already available on PS4 and PC.

Who knows, maybe Limited Run Games will do a limited edition physical release for this one as well?

Aww, that kinda stinks. But I understand that the Mario game developers are struggling to prove more that graphics aren't everything and the third-party games on the Switch I've tried demo for ran and looked so good. Hell, I've been able to watch a whole let's play of Touhou Genso Wanderer (w/ RU-vid) and also revisit my childhood game called Epic Battle Fantasy 3 in Steam version. *flashbacks to my disappointment with Pokemon Sword and Shield's quality*

Honestly, I don't really like all the bloom in PS4/PC, but the framerate is a deal breaker.

Starting to think compile heart is doing this on purpose so they can make excuses for not putting Re:birth on Switch :v Already bought the "Nepify Your Life" Bundle on PC so if the performance doesn't improve then it's an easy pass for me Here's hoping Neptunia becomes a bigger thing on Switch 🤞

I will still get it, because my computer also struggled with it, but the lack of bloom honestly seems like an upside to me. Everything looked way too shiny on the PC, and there wasn't any options to turn it down from what I could find. I think there might be some graphical options, though.

I supported Idea Factory buying Fairy Fencer for $ 40 on day 1 when I could easily buy it from 10 on Steam, but the frame rate was gross and I had to play it in dock mode and it still looked bad... My experience with that game was horrible but I think I will give it another chance since I tried the game again a few weeks ago and it seems that the graphics and the frame rate improved a bit. I am sorry but this time I will not support Idea Factory with this game, if i buy it would be when they improve the performance and phisical

Is it only me or is anyone else just hoping Blanc + Nep vs Zombies comes to Switch? Bad port or not it'd be fun to get my friends into nep that way.

I’m pretty sure they’re gonna use Erin’s noire, this is nothing but a port so it should be Erin. It would only make sense I wasn’t too fond of noires new VA when I first heard but I quickly got used to and actually liked the voice.

bought the japanese version and while the frames aren't a solid 30 most of the time, still bearable and playable unless there's a care for perfect ports. The darkness on the switch version fits imo, they had to change the shading clearly, so they made it not as vibrant and "poppy" per say and fixed the stages and maps to fit that. its always flickering between 60fps and somewhere like 20-25 fps, not just on cutscenes and special move scenes. Overall its a good port imo (they could've done much worse tbh) and im glad Id and compile hearts pulled through on this port

Honestly, I prefer the lighting on Switch, the original has too much bloom. But I kinda expect anything 3D on Switch to look a bit less detailed. I just hope the port isn't half-baked though. That would be disappointing.

only those who love portability and neptunia will get this game even though they have both original and remake on ps4 and I'm one of them. I'm getting the switch version for obliviously portability and I want more compile heart games to come to the switch as I don't support sony due to censorship and only certain games on ps4 is a pass for me

Seems to be a trend with other primarily 3D Idea Factory and Compile Heart games. The ports of Arc of Alchemist and Fairy Fencer F also ran really poorly. Uncapped framerates with no significant additional fine tuning to be seen, outside of the removal of anti-aliasing and some post effects. Pretty bad optimization work, it seems.

It's pretty clear that this bad Switch ports are just a cash grab for Idea Factory

I'm pretty sure Limited Run Games will give VII Switch a physical release at some point. They've done Physical Switch release for Fairy Fencer F ADF, Moero Chronicle H and Mary Skelter 2 (they're going to do one for Arc Of Alchemist as well). Expect to pay a rather premium price for that as well. Performance seems similar to how Fair Fencer F ADF ran on Switch. That game's Switch Port had quite a bit of slow down and even crashed occasionally when things got a bit busy (I'm honestly impressed that I got through all 3 Story Routes in that game on Switch, personally). Confession when it comes to Noire's English Voice: I kinda prefer Mendez's interpretation of Noire when it comes to her human form, while I prefer Fitzgerald's when it comes to HDD form.

It runs decent on the switch yes there is some slow down on it but it’s fun

the potentially 50$ price tag is funny considering i just payed 4 bucks for it on this great sale on psn. i dont think a new market justifies being more than twice as expensive. If it included all the dlc, including costumes, then i might accept a 40. but...it doesnt so i dont. also, them is some chunky frames.

I'm ok with the graphical look but man they really need to fix the performance but I hope they fix it before or after its release, it happened with fellow port Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force so why can't VII? Also I wanted to say this, I really love both Erin Fitzgerald and Erica Mendez as Noire, I do remember when I found out that Erin was no longer doing Noire and yes that broke my heart to pieces. But I did heard that leaked audio from 4 Goddesses Online and I recognized the voice I was pretty much happy that they got a solid VA to take on the role of our favorite Tsundere. It's the same for how I feel about the voices of Vert, Tara Platt and Carrie Keranen. I love them both. ☺❤

they should have ported the rebirth games first (those games run at full 1080p on intel igpus.. so the switch can handle them no proble) and ler VII in the optimization oven for a little longer... game looks to be set on the lowest settings, they should add a 720p performance option just so the poor thing runs at 30 fps, the problem is that this is the 1st main series neptunia game been released on a mainstream console, with part 4 of a series, performing poorly, if they released the rebirth games as the actual debut to the mainstream audience Neptunia could have become a popular series (specially if the priced each game right)... they doomed any audience increase in the foreseeable future.

It's like playing Need for Speed Most Wanted/Carbon with low Visual Treatment

Im very sad to see all the ports of Neptunia games we are getting ending up with such bad performance issues,i got Super Dimension Neptunia RPG on the Switch,and that game was nearly unplayable for me,and im not picky with graphics or frame perfomance,as long the game is playable and good,but man that was just too much also i like Erin Fitzgerald as Noir more,nothing againts her new voice actress,but i just Erin's voice acting in general a lot more

As someone with the Japanese game. It obviously does not run as well as it does on ps4. That said it its perfectly acceptable for playing the game portablely.

Why are they only putting mega dimension on consoles? Can’t they put super dimension since I never played that one

So I've got a question I'm a new Nep fan, I've liked the characters for a while but never actually played the games or seen them for a while up until recent, I've bought HDN and HDN MK2 on ps3 and have enough for Victory on ps3 also (I don't have a PC or PSVita so no Rebirth for me) So here's my question, should I get VII on the switch or buy a ps4 to play this game, I have a switch but no ps4 I wouldn't only be buying a ps4 for VII but it's one of the main reasons, so what do y'all suggest

I’m not a huge fan of digital games so I will not be buying this. I won’t get the DLC nor good graphics or frame rate. I know the switch is more powerful than that. I think if they put more time into this port the results could of ended differently. I love the Nep series and I hate to see it like this. I honestly would want the Rebirth series because I’m tired of the VII series.

Im confused, is it that the switch lacks the power to handle the game (if so how do we get the withcer and doom etc...) or that the devs didnt put enough to optimize the game better???? I dont know much but having massive (what seems to me more demanding) games like those tow above running better (handheld at least) then whats stopping them from making it happen???

maybe its just cause I don't set it up properly or something but for me the pc version of v2 was the janky one and the switch neptunia rpg was ok on my switch so ill give it a chance. If for no other reason then at least as long as its ok gameplay wise I can take it with me on the go.

We got another crappy port here, as you all know performance is lacking only for Nintendo Switch and It doesn't seems to cool, we got missing DLC due to rights issues (Million Arthur) but It come back as It's confirmed. We've would like to see next mainline Neptunia game with PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X and PC (Including: Nintendo Switch) (One like for add new wishlist of next mainline Neptunia game.)

I played on PC and bought the Japanese version one on my switch when it came out I must say the performance is not bad compared to what I been through but with no postprocessing or filter or screen effects or whatever it's call I'll say I'm not liking it as much as the PC version.

Interesting, big open world games like dragon quest 11, witcher 3 are looks good and can be 30fps on switch, but small Japanese games like this and disaster report 4 looks bad on switch and 20fps.

Guys dont buy this game don't support companies who rush these things if they know they can do better just get the PC or PS4 version. So the company know the reason their game not selling well. I refuse to support a rush port.

I'm curious as to how VIIR's battle system will feel for me. Since I was completely new to Neptunia yet I still liked what I saw from this channel I just bought "all" Nepu games and while (on PC) I have no real choice between the originals and remakes (for 1~3) I decided to go with VIIR. Sure, having the bedroom scenes and the better graphics is nice, but I specifically chose it because it's battle system is different. Even if it turns out to be a total failure I can at least say that I tried both. And perhaps, just perhaps, I might like it even more; who knows? I'm still playing through Re;Birth 3 as of now though, so it'll take some time until I can judge VIIR's system. Is there anyone who enjoyed the new/alternative battle system over the old one?

It’s just another case of bad porting.. the switch is more capable than what being presented here.

One thing I've noticed is that Nintendo ports of 3rd party games usually perform and look worse than their Xbox, PS and PC counterparts. Like how most Sonic titles SADX loses it's nice lighting and textures, BUT also introduced a ton more glitches like the infamous clip-through the loop in Emerald coast, and 4 Episode 1 & 2 Sonic is really shiny and ew to look at and Unleashed Wii being the same as the PS2 version cause the weaker hardware couldn't handle the 360 and PS3's version. COD MW3 on the Wii has so many... aren't circles supposed to be round? And loads of others have framerate issues too, or are just really hard to see properly (Like Skyrim which ran better on the Xbox 360 than the Switch *Source: I've owned both versions, 1st hand experience is better to judge with than random reviews* .) But in all fairness, these games were made with the more powerful console's hardware in mind, so it kinda makes sense that nintendo's would struggle to beat, or even meet their perfomance. It's kinda a shame cause we know the Switch can look good as we've seen with Breath of the Wild.

Should I get the switch version, I do have the steam version of this game but my laptop can’t run games that well. I played through rebirth 1 and 2 with many issues.

Kinda sad that the port sucks, I think the biggest point of making ports like these years after the game's release (can't believe it's been almost 5 years, damn) is to attract more people to the fanbase, but if the first experience they have with Neptunia is a laggy game, they might not come back for more.

Nothing jarring about Noire for me. Using original audio for every game, her voice has always been Asami Imai :P

look the nintendo switch is not a powerful system like the ps4 so it's obvious that it's gonna scale down and such and it's decent enough for me so I'm getting it.

Will if Super Neptunia RPG didn’t run well on the switch the you still expect this game to run good too. Even to this day the game have bugs and freezes up on me, so they didn’t fix anything.

I bought VIIR for $10 on PS4. VII was like $6. Yes, after Mario 3D all stars I became more mad than ever at Nintendo’s elevated prices just because of their brand. Nintendo prices are crazy high... I’m a Nintendo player since I was like 5 years old, but I don’t buy games anymore, because you find those same games 5 times, 20 times cheaper on PS4. I’m just staying with Zelda and Xenoblade. And DKC, and Mario Kart, and Smash. I don’t need more from Nintendo.

Tell you the truth I like the more clearer version of the graphics rather than the foggy stuff that they had on the PS4 all they got to do is do a software update and then a update on the game itself and it should run fine 4 frame rate all games actually have some form of framerate problem when it comes to using really flashy skills or abilities in the game

I'll admit that the Switch port doesn't look "great", but I've played far worse ports on Switch (i.e. Lego City Undercover. Great game on Wii U, but my oh my on Switch...) and even then, I'm glad the Switch is finally getting a good Neptunia game that isn't some...thing that got rebranded from some other game with generic royalty-free music and generic medieval areas. I'm looking at you, Super Identity Crisis RPG/Brave Identity Crisis. That said, I'm waiting out for a good sale on Megadimension VII, the same I had done for all of the games I bought on other systems.

tbh I don't care if I can play it on switch. But I do hope some more optimizing gets done to the game in the meantime.

The performance of the Switch version reminds me of the PS3 games' performance, or maybe more comparatively, the Vita ports' performance. That's not exactly a compliment though. The PS3 was difficult to develop for, same for the Vita, which was also somewhat underpowered. I know that the ReBirth series is much less demanding in comparison to V, but I feel like the game could run a lot better than it does on Swtich. Cut corners in visuals if you need to, just make the game run competently and steadily. This is just a sad port in my opinion.

Sacrifice framerate for resolution: NEVER! Thumbs down for the suggestion.

Here is an idea, do the trilogy first Nintendo. Take time to work on the gameplay.

Because people wanted realistic graphics and generic FPS games all over and over again. Even worse is that the Neptunia games sold a lot less than EA Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Porting games from stronger platforms to a weaker system always involves compromises.

I love VII, and I was really happy to see it get ported to a Nintendo console, but good lord, this looks like an awful port... I really don't know what IF/CH/IFI/etc are trying to achieve in this - sure, it's the most recent mainline game (discounting its remake) and opening the door for the core series to extend to Nintendo sounds like a good idea, but if this was an engine test for multiplat porting, it frankly failed, and I easily blame shoddy optimization. Even if the Switch is a step down from other contemporary consoles, we've seen other current-gen games run reasonably well on it, and VII isn't particularly demanding, so why does it look worse than the PS3 entries? Again, VII is my favorite modern Neptunia game, but why didn't they go for the Re;Birth series? We won't know how they're handling Noire until they release her, but if they felt the need to have Erica record for the *legacy content* in Neptunia & Friends, I wouldn't put it past them to use the questionable VIIR dub. Don't get me wrong, Erica Mendez is a good voice actress, I love a lot of her work and I think she does a decent job when she's given new scripts to work from, but the direction she was given (or lack thereof) for her delivery in VIIR doesn't seem as fitting as Erin's. The handling of DLC is uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugly. I get that they lost the Million Arthur license, and it hurts for me because she was the VII "Maker" I liked the most (and yes, they also just delisted her from the other storefronts), but the fact that they're charging individually for an incomplete selection of DLC to a port feels wrong. Including the DLC they can publish for free with the port would at least be a decent consolation for bad performance and an entire missing party member, but it's simply looking like the worst version of the game.

I agree with all the disappointed people here. Neptunia games don't deserve this. :-(

I wonder why so many questions from the author if we already know the answers. Why bullswitch ports are expensive? because yes, simple and clean. Nintentards will buy them claiming any excuse to justify what they paid, and for the less creative people, just the joker: it's portable. It is the best excuse because it works in EVERY situation. Why framerate is inconsistent? that is partially nis fault, they don't know how to program at all. In PS4 the game has slowdowns, and quite often. The R downgraded version works at 30fps all the time, so take it or leave it. The DLC? well, they want to sell, and this game is intended to sell because of the cute girls, so why to skip getting the money again from those people who spend insanely stupid amounts of money in accessories? otherwise we wouldn't have mobages because of course, there does not exist another way of making profit from a game, mix it with dumb people and voila, pay again for the DLC. But hey, it's portable ;)
