A prebuilt Nerdy Gurdy basic costs 660 euros, a gateway gurdy costs roughly 500-600 euros, its not much of a price difference for a vastly superior instrument
*VERY* misleading to say the Nerdy Gurdy kit is around 400 euros including shipping and then say that is almost the same as 400 pounds for a Gatway Gurdy, which isn't even the price, Gateway Gurdies are 450 pounds EXCLUDING shipping. If you want to properly compare the two use the base price of both with the Nerdy Gurdy kit being 310 euros(around 272 pounds) and the Gateway Gurdy at 450 pounds which is around 512 euro. I wouldn't say a difference of around 200 euro is even close to "about the same price".
Look it's not rocket science, it's math: 1. Nerdy Gurdy kit: 310€+VAT = 372€ 2. Gordiy Starukh (last time I checked) = 500USD =507€ 3. Gateway Gurdy (kickstarter price) = 400£ = 458€ All prices net shipping. When I bought my nerdy harpa I paid shipping costs, so either I've been scammed, or you're not telling the truth. SO A NERDY GURDY IS KIT 86€ cheaper THAN THE GATEWAY AND 128€ cheaper than Staruk's Now, can we please move on?
@@CaptainGurdy And how are we supposed to get a Gateway Gurdy for 400 pounds? The kickstarter has closed. They are sold for 450 pounds on their website. I will give you VAT on the Nerdy Gurdy, but since the Gateway Gurdy website does not mention the inclusion or exclusion of tax *anywhere* on their site, I had no way of taking that into account. But being generous and including the VAT in the 450 pounds would still make for a difference of 140 euros, still not "about the same price" and a hell of a lot of money for what pretty much everyone with a little knowledge on how hurdy-gurdies are supposed to function will say is a gamble (at best). The Gateway Gurdy has not proven itself, until then I can't in good concience recommend it for that money, especially when there is a tried and tested and *approved* by the wider gurdy community instrument that is cheaper.
The Nyckelharpa is basically like a Viola w/ Keys attached to it. It's easier to play in tune than on a Viola because the keys add precision to the intonation.
You'll have better luck with your harpa by using 1/8 cello strings rather than 4/4, which are supplied. They exert less pressure on the instrument, which would help you with being able to tune it with the bridge in the proper position. I certainly don't hate you for expressing your opinions on the Gateway and Nerdy gurdies. I do, however, question whether your opinions on the two gurdies are INFORMED and therefore, valid, opinions. I feel like, unless you were able to compare the two gurdies from personal experience, you might not want to offer what might be misleading information to your 1.18K subscribers.
Thanks for the advice. As I say loud and clear, I do not have opinions on the nerdy gurdy (never seen one IRL). Therefore I never made a comparison video. If I have ever spread false information, feel free to point that out and I will make it right.
Actually, 1/8 cello strings exert much more pressure on an instrument that 4/4 cello strings, because they are much thicker. My opinion is informed by having been an instrumentmaker for more than fifty years. Cheers from sunny Vienna, Scott
