Just wanted to say I've learned a lot about fixing retro game consoles by watching your videos and I've fixed multiple game carts and a Dreamcast so far based on what I learned from your videos keep up the amazing content and thank you!

I was skeptical until I installed one while back. It's still holds up today and no more annoying blinking red lights. So far every game I put in plays. I have a habbit of cleaning my games before inserting into the NES.
@RebSolo21

0:55 The main reason the Blinking Light Win costs $30 is because it "unlocks" your NES and lets you play games region-free (i.e. Japanese and PAL). This info is printed on the piece of paper that comes with it. You only have to power-cycle the NES a certain number of times to change between regions.
@RetroRepairs
@RetroRepairs 4 года назад
Good to know, i legitimately didn't know that. However, japanese carts were always compatible, they just required a converter due to physical size differences
@RebSolo21
@RebSolo21 4 года назад
@@RetroRepairs Fair enough. I was really thinking of being able to play PAL games in NTSC regions and flaked out on being able to use a converter for Japanese carts. I had a long day at work and always like to unwind watching channels like yours on RU-vid. Thanks for the great content and look forward to more.
@Ninja_Gaijin

You still would need a famicom adapter since the pins are different between NES and Famicom. And while you could play Famicom games on an NTSC NES with just the famicom adapter, for a PAL nes you either need to disable the lockout chip or get an NTSC to PAL converter cartridge, then a famicom adapter on top of that, THEN the Famicom game.. I tried this monser but sadly either my NTSC (Horeleg) adapter or Famicom adapter don't work.

@Dessan01
@Dessan01 4 года назад
The blinking light win connector makes the NES look similar to the Retro USB AVS set up. I am always a bit nervous inserting cartridges in that as you really have to wrestle with it, I would imagine constantly doing it would create some ware and tear issues. Personally it doesn’t bother me as my flash cart just permanently sits in there, only occasionally coming out to add a new rom hack, or firmware update.
@chefkdowg

I remember as a kid, seeing one of these nes's once that the push down tray was bad so kids, at the activity center, would place a second cartridge on top of the game to start the game. This would have been extremely helpful then.

I have one, interesting things I noticed, pulling the game out never gets easier, always tight, sometimes it is possible to mis seat the game, and the pins can get corroded too and need cleaning with rubbing alcohol as well, (use a spray can of rubbing alcohol).

Bloody nes, my little Bro had one for Christmas brand new and with in the 1st 6 months it started blinking got it replaced and the same thing happened again, in the end we used to get over it by putting a second cart on top always worked. I've got his nes now, I just took the cart slot out and cleaned the contacts till the were gold again, they seem to suffer from tarnishing and that's what makes them bad, my nes has been good for a while now.

@Ninja_Gaijin
@Ninja_Gaijin 4 года назад
Due to dirty/failing internal 72 pin connector, for the past 15 or so years I've been using a Game Genie in the open/up position as a passthrough to get a solid connection. It works, the drop down bit was just a con to get through customs as it looked more like a VCR than a console for the US market. The open/top loader Famicom actually has the best connection of the designs.

Over time the original will no longer work/work as well, though
@moderusprime
@moderusprime 4 года назад
@@ShiggitayMediaProductions Once you bend the pins back into place, if done correctly, they will last longer than the 30 years or so they had previously because you're an adult now and you know not to leave a game in pressed down. The pins aren't suddenly weaker and if they are, they might be 1-3% at most. This is hard metal and durable plastic. A proper repair job will last decades.
@moderusprime
@moderusprime 4 года назад
@@buenogoodlive That's incorrect. It will last a lifetime if taken care of. A BLW won't work over time as well. Everything wears out from use over time. My point is, you may as well keep it original instead of wasting $30 on a temp fix that changes your original system.
