Another great video, but a couple points: Castlevania 2 was fairly well received when it was released. It was no mystery that you needed a guide to get through it (hence Nintendo dedicating a large chunk of a Nintendo Power issue to it), but it was not even close to the polarizing (much less failure) of a game it's often looked at as now. It's the same story with Zelda 2. There was no set formula for what either of these games had to be. It wasn't until subsequent releases that the opinions started to come out about what constituted a "real" Castlevania or Zelda game. Nintendo didn't renew their license with Mike Tyson simply because they didn't renew the license, not because of the rape case. He signed a 3 year deal before the game released on 10/18/87, and the deal expired before the revised edition released on 8/2/90. It expired well before his rape arrest in 1991, and it's been said that him losing to Buster Douglas was the deciding factor for Nintendo. The game started life in Japan simply as Punch Out, but Nintendo added the Mike Tyson likeness and name to help it sell in the U.S. When it did sell well, the Tyson license was added to the Japanese game as well.

Jeeze they should use this video as a commercial for the console. Seriously, I've been on the fence, but you just sold me. Actually watching the footage of the games being played makes me want it so bad. And being able to introduce my friends to Bubble Bobble? Hell yeah.

The first RU-vid video I've seen regarding the Classic NES mini that gets it. And Mike Tyson's contract ended shortly before he was knocked out by Buster Douglas and due to the loss Nintendo decided to not renew the contract.

I found myself in the target audience of this console. I admire the NES, but I don't see myself running after its games to collect. This will be perfect to fill the gap.

I'm "mainstream audience" - here was my reaction to Metroid (I played it for the first time 6 years ago when I was 17): I LOVE the atmosphere this game has! I can't believe this was made in 1986! It's an interesting navigation/exploration challenge with one of the best soundtracks of it's era. I enjoyed patiently exploring and gradually memorizing the world. However, admittedly, I only properly got into it once I had a walkthrough and started relying on save states. Just like Zelda 1 really :) It was SO worth it in the end - the final section was so tense; no joke I was shit scared of the Metroids!!; and I will always remember discovering what the Mother Brain looks like (I intentionally didn't find out because the manual said "nobody knows what it looks like" - I'm glad I avoided that particular spoiler) and defeating it and escaping in time There you go. I liked it quite a bit, pretty dope I revisit the game from time to time. Although now that I've since played Super Metroid, I'd sooner play that instead, no contest

After looking at the gameplay,i noticed there are many classic games i played even though i don't know about it back then,like Final Fantasy, i play it before but i don't know its name back then thanks snesdrunk this was really a great list

that's actually a pretty good selection of games, it's a shame nintendo halted the production and stores in my country charge a fucking fortune for this console.

Great that they're coming out with this, lots of fun games!... But it should have been more like 50 games, and included some unreleased in North America, like translations of Final Fantasy II and III (not the SNES ones) and Gimmick and the Japanese Super Mario 2. And would have liked to see Bionic Commando, RC Pro Am, Rad Racer, 1943, Spy Hunter, and Cobra Triangle.

I like how the Famicom version comes with two controllers and we get ripped off with only one for the NES.

My only beef with this is that Japan gets River City Ransom on the Famicom Classic but we don't.

Pretty good lineup. I will say as a critique though, Nintendo promotes their own original black box titles too much. While a few are good, most haven't aged well, and don't have a lot of replay value. It would be nice if Nintendo stuck to the best of the best when it comes to 1st party releases.

As a NES collector and retro gamer I think this is cool, but its more like a novelty. I dont own a wii or wiiU so I dont care for the controllers - I would like to see if they release an advantage joystick for the console and even some wireless controller support which would make it more appealing. Have you checked out the retroUSB AVS? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on that console.

Regarding Metroid, because of the password system, I actually spent some time playing it on the GBA as well on the NES Classic. The save states on the Classic of course really help though. I haven't finished it yet because I ended up in a situation where I had to die to escape a long trip around after a disappearing brick...probably should have just travelled around because farming takes ages. Some flaws and mean traps aside, I really love this game..It's simple but really fun. The controls are great, and as you find upgrades you feel genuinely more bad ass. I suggest to anyone playing it that you just download a map, or get some graph paper and do it yourself. I was too lazy for that route though haha

Castlevania 3, Megaman 3, Blaster Master, Journey to Silius, and The Guardian Legend should've been on there. Heck, Crisis Force, Metal Gear, Snake's Revenge, TMNT 2 & 3 should've been on there as well. I definitely would've wanted this, but I know there's better choices.

You have to keep in mind licensing when looking at games that could have been included. That's probably the main reason why you have Tecmo Bowl instead of Tecmo Super Bowl, and why Tetris, DuckTales and the Turtles games are missing.

God I love FF1. it's a bit grind heavy unless you do single character runs

can't say I have an issue with what games they selected. I would take contra over superC and TSB over tecmo bowl but other than that a quality selection of games.

That's NOT why Mike Tyson was removed from Punch-Out!! He had a 3 year contract with Nintendo that expired. And instead of re-upping it they just let it slide since the game was selling fine. 3 games they should have included: Castlevania 3,Megaman 3,Megaman 4,Ninja Gaiden 3,Super Techmo Bowl,Darkwing Duck and DuckTales. If you are going to mor any games on the NES classic after a few years of owning it this is my top list of games to add.

Thankfully, this console is super easy to hack now. It’s a fun way to play any NES game you might want. Obviously regular emulation works too, but I like having them on my cool mini NES with the proper controller.

...I'm wondering if they're (Nintendo) going to follow the Atari Flashback route. Depending on sales of the Mini, probably update it every few years with additional games. Next iteration will have 40 (maybe Nintendo will have us vote on what could be included?) So you could reasonably expect a NES Mini 2 in 2018 or so...

Honestly, I want it but I don’t really need to buy it due to the fact it is expensive now and as I have most of the games I want to play and I can live without playing the others. If I did get it, I would really only play Mario 2 and 3. I own Dr Mario on the gameboy, Zelda 1 and 2 on the gamecube, Mario and Donkeykong on my gba.

I will say Capcom has made some mistakes, but are usually pretty quick to fix it, Konami just pisses me off. Nintendo has discontinued the NES mini on 4-13-2017 To SNES Drunk and Nintendo fans on youtube. As you know Nintendo has officially announced that they will no longer continue to produce the NES mini consoles. As a result of this, the prices for the NES mini has skyrocketed to about $200-$500 and higher on ebay and amazon online stores. So if you're wanting to buy the NES mini, good luck finding it. I know this has made you Nintendo fans angry and upset. I'm also upset with Nintendo companies bad choice in discontinuing the popular product. An alternative to the NES mini is the Famicom Mini which is much cheaper to buy around $100-$150, but keep in mind you won't get to play 8 games including Bubble Bobble, Castlevania 2, Tecmo Bowl, Kid Icarus, Punch Out, Startropics, Final Fantasy 1, and Donkey Kong Jr. But you can play Final Fantasy 3, Open Tournament Golf, River City Ransom, Solomon's Key and some of the Japan games never released in the USA. Also keep in mind you'll notice some regional differences in the Famicom mini including Ice Climbers where you actually get to club seals instead of yetis or reading Japanese text in Final Fantasy 3. Or in Super Mario Bros 3, it takes 2 hits for Mario and Luigi to die instead of 3 hits. If you have a Wii, or Wii U system, you can buy Nintendo virtual console games or you can buy the NES games released for Gameboy advance.

Better off adding the whole licensed library for each console. They would have made more than enough money back just from idiot scalpers alone.

I honestly don't know why so many people consider the original legend of zelda to be very accessible. If you had the nintendo power and by now memorized where to go, sure. To anyone else, most people really don't bother to finish it even with how short it is.

Probotector wich is super C is way more fun in pal region. Playing with badass mech instead of poorly drawnes rambo made it the only game way more fun in pal region than in any other

30 NES games just seems far too stingy for a $60 plug 'n play, even if the hardware is high quality. I get that licensing third party games might get expensive but they could have at least given us the rest of the first party Nintendo catalog, barring the Zapper games. I know Ice Hockey would have made a great addition for the 2-player lineup. That said it seems like it's going to be quality hardware from the early previews and it looks like it will be great fun for casual non-collectors. I might pick one up just because it looks cool. As for the lack of Super Tecmo Bowl, do you think it might have had to do with EA and the NFL licensing?

The only thing that makes me sad is the Japanese version got FF3 instead of 1. I mean, there was never an official NES version that was translated, but damn is that a MUCH better game. Otherwise the library in this is solid. If I were to pick two other replacements it would be River City Ransom for Balloon Fight (which the Famicom one got as well) and Blaster Master for Galaga.

I don't understand why they made those old console games were so hard. They weren't arcade games meant to milk quarters out of people. I guess it was just an old obsolete way of making games and it was ingrained in them and they couldn't get rid of it. I am glad games aren't like that now.

I'm sad that the NES never got a better version of Ghosts & Goblins, really hate Micronics for their shoddy job & Capcom for being lazy with porting and outsourced it to that company.

Way too many basic arcade games that predated the NES. The whole point of the NES in the late 80s was to move beyond PacMan and Donkey Kong into games that were more complex and interesting.

This is a nice "console" if you liked the NES, but don't want to spend a fortune tracking down physical hardware and ROM's.

Forget all this "30 game nonsense". It plugs into your PC via micro USB. from there you put every game ever onto this console.

When I see how good Kirby and SMB3 looked I often wonder just how far they could have pushed these machines had them drbe for "bigger, faster, better" hadn't been so strong. And still is. The drive to always have something new for old. I mean who cares about 8k graphics when the human eye can't even pick up the difference or surround sound audio when we already have that. They'll start selling machines with seats that move next. Or virtual reality will have to really become the next thing we're it's hooked up to our body and we get to feel everything...

ok but saying that zelda 1 "doesn't feel outdated" and is "accessible for anyone to pick up and play" is just straight up dishonest and I genuinely don't understand how anyone could even consider saying that. to warn players about metroid 1 and criticize castlevania 2 for its confusing and cryptic design but simultaneously let zelda 1 slide is just blatantly contradictory. I wouldn't recommend the game to a single soul except for masochists who enjoy being frustrated by obnoxious game design and who also enjoy wasting their time wandering around aimlessly. zelda 1 has aged like crap in pretty much every conceivable way. the game is a product of its time, let's stop pretending it's anything but.
