Nesco Snackmaster Pro Food Dehydrator FD-75A Review LINK TO Nesco Dehydrator: amzn.to/1pFSiLK I’ll show you how the dehydrator works by drying fruits and making fruit leather or fruit roll ups.
The function of a Dehydrator is to dry out food by removing moisture in order to preserve it for a long period of time. Includes five trays and you can buy additional trays separately to dry larger quantities. The trays are perfect for drying fruit, vegetables and jerky.It also comes with 2 solid sheets for drying semi-liquids like soups and fruit rolls, 2 mesh sheets for drying herbs, spices and potpourri, an instruction and recipe book and 3 jerky spice packets so you can make jerky.
It has 600 watts of power with a top mounted fan. The thermostat is adjustable from 95 to 160 degrees. The temperature depends on what you’re drying and it’s clearly marked on the unit. The trays do not need to be rotated during drying like some other dehydrators. This saves you a lot of time and effort. Once you slice your fruit, veggies or meat and put it in the dehydrator, you only have to check it in a few hours when it’s done. Drying times will vary and they are noted in the instruction book.
I’ll show you how the dehydrator works by drying fruits and making fruit leather or fruit roll ups.
Fruit leather can be any pureed fruit. Fruits, vegetables and fruit rolls should be dried at 130 to 140 degrees. Dried fruit can be very expensive and making your own saves money.
Here, I’ve sliced oranges very thinly and arranged them on a tray. Don’t overlap any of the slices, they should be placed in a single layer. On the second tray, I’ve placed thinly sliced apples. To prevent them from discoloring, I’ve rubbed both sides of the slices with orange juice. After I sliced the oranges, I squeezed the end pieces onto a large plate. I sliced the apples and put them on the plate with the juice, turned the slices over in the juice and put them on the tray. On the third tray, I have thinly sliced pineapple. On the fourth tray, I have thinly sliced bananas. I’ve dipped these into orange juice. These I did not dip in any juice because I want to see how they’ll be different when dry. I’ll make fruit leather on my last tray. I’ve put a solid sheet on the tray. Here I have pureed fresh mango with little bit of water - just enough to blend the mango. There’s no added sweetness. I’ll pour the puree onto the tray and spread it out evenly. You can puree most fruit to make fruit leather. If your puree needs sweetness, add a bit of honey. Don’t add sugar because that’ll make the fruit leather brittle. You want the leather to be chewy, not crispy. I’ll put the cover on and set the temperature at 135 degrees fahrenheit. I’ll check back in a few hours.

Thank you for the review and demo of results after dehydrating. I have a plain version with no temp control and thinking of adding this Snackmaster to my kitchen. Same trays. I'm new to dehydrating. Your video shows me that I can safely not over-dry my stuff and it's still "ready". Thanks! Yummy! oyrm

+steve sanders From what I've read, dried fruit vacuum packed should last about 5 years stored at 70 degrees, maybe longer if the temp is cooler. Dried vegetables, 8-10 years at 70 degrees or longer at cooler temps. Please subscribe :-)

+abdulah arby Hi Abdulah, the time depends on the product you're drying. My apple slices took 3.5 hours, the mango leather was done in 6 hours. The manual gives you times for drying different fruits and vegetables. Hope that helps :)

Is there any nutritional value to drying fruit or is it just for preservation? I am getting one of these by tomorrow to dry out my habanero peppers (hundreds of them grew this year) and make powder out of them. I am looking for different ways of using this machine.

Thanks for the review! I've been curious about dehydrators and it's nice to see any potential downsides. I'd be curious to see how it is in making jerky. So there's no timer? Also, you might want to lower the input gain on your microphone in future videos. It's a bit hot which leads to clipping. Try keeping things in the yellow / orange. :P
@bestkitchenreviews
@bestkitchenreviews 9 лет назад
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed the review! Thanks for the microphone tip :-) There is no timer on the dehydrator. Drying time varies depending on the fruit, vegetable or meat and also thickness of the slices. After using the dehydrator once, you'll have a better idea of when different foods will be done drying.

Great video! Great instructions/tips! Thank you! My question is how long will these fruits last? You don't need to put them in airtight containers? Thanks!!
@bestkitchenreviews
@bestkitchenreviews 8 лет назад
+betteboop57 Hi, glad you enjoyed the review. You can put the fruits in mason jars like I did or vacuum seal them for longer storage. After 1.5 years, my fruit is still fine in the mason jars. They should be kept in a cool place. There are a lot of variables that determine the shelf life of dehydrated food - moisture, temperature, method of storage. So, there is no concrete answer to how long your fruit will last. Hope that helps. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)

Hi, thank you for the review. Do you still have this dehydrator? Looks like you made this video in quite a few years ago so. Some of the reviews gave it a bad rating for the motor giving out after a month or so. I bought the cheaper one and it works fine but it very noisy and seems to need a lot longer time to dry out the food. I'm thinking of getting one that is quieter. Thank you for your help. Very good video.

Is it BPA free or what is the impact of warm plastic on vegetables and fruits getting dehydrated? Thanks
@bestkitchenreviews
@bestkitchenreviews 8 лет назад
+Pathan Power Hi, the plastic is BPA free. As far as the impact of plastic on the dehydrated produce, I really can't give you an answer - sorry :( There is plastic in most kitchen appliances we use daily, especially coffee makers where the water gets very hot and comes into direct contact with plastic. I have done some online research and haven't found anything conclusive. If you're concerned with plastic coming into contact with food, it's best to purchase a stainless steel dehydrator here: amzn.to/1OvCi4s Hope that helps. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)

Way more common in the 18th century. Drying a concentrated soup or stock and then using them while travelling. You drop a *slice* of soup into hot water and bam, instant soup.
