I’m glad this helped you with the choice. I like the Vertuo Plus, even excluding Next issues. You’ll like the pods more with the Plus.

I have just had two Vurtuo Plus machines returned for both getting stuck in descaling mode. Just an FYI, don't be surprised if the same thing happens.

@@danielrobinson3930 getting in and out of descaling mode is extremely frustrating on Vertuos. They should add an extra button or VERY clear instructions to do this.

Oh man, that is disppointing to hear. I am cautious about being too definitive about the Next leaking issue just because of this...every machine has reported leaks including Nespresso, Keurig, Breville, DeLonghi, etc... That said, this will definitely make more alert about any future complaints on the Plus. Thanks for noting it!

You can’t double tap the brew button to get a double espresso on the Plus (that’s only the Pop). However, You can manually reprogram any pod by holding the brew button. It’ll brew until you let go of the button and that size will be set for that pod.

Honestly, you're fine sticking with the Original. If you have a couple of OG pods you like with milk, then that is fine. I like the Vertuo for larger drinks AND smaller double espresso pods for lattes. If you do go Vertuo, you could go with a Pop, because the "double espresso" feature would be really nice to make a strong coffee that blends with milk. Hope this helps - thanks for your comment! :)

My Plus has no issues (my wife uses it daily), but less than two years old...You have to descale and rinse every 200 uses to keep it working for years. The Plus has been out for longer than the Next and I haven't heard any issues.

The vertuo next has these issues because of the poor thought that went into designing the machine. The leaks are caused because of a bad o ring in the centrifugal valve where the hot water passes through. The heat turns the o ring into plastic. Once that happens, It is no longer able to create a good seal so whenever the machine head is opened, water goes down the back of the machine an eventually it leaks out of the bottom. People are also having issues where the machine laser is not able to read the barcode of the capsule. This is because the laser shines through the clear thing that surrounds the pod bay. Coffee comes in contact with this clear thing during brewing cycles and eventually it gets so stained and dirty that the laser isn't able to read the barcodes and the machine just error codes and refuses to brew. Additionally, the machine is so loud because it has a different motor. The vertuo plus motor wouldn't fit in the vertuo next so there is a different, louder one. I also believe that this motor is worse because the crema isn't as uniform as it is on the vertuo plus. I also think the vertuo next makes a cooler coffee because of the heating system. In the vertuo plus it's hotter because the thermoblock (the heater) is bowl shaped and the brewed coffee flows into that bowl shape and is aerated there whilst retaining the heat. Straight after this process it exits the spout and into the cup. I'm not 100 percent sure but i think the vertuo next and pop both have a different heating system that isn't bowl shaped and subsequently the coffee is aerated in a different part of the machine that isn't on the thermoblock which makes the coffee cool down significantly before exiting into the cup. You also mentioned in the video that the vertuo pop is basically a smaller version of the vertuo next, and it is exactly that. I'm on my 3rd replacement pop machine because the first machine started leaking on the first day it was out of the box and my second replacement started leaking after about 3 weeks of use. My third replacement has been going strong luckily however it's starting to make some concerning sounds but i hope it's nothing major. I have a vertuo plus so i just use that machine most of the time. Anyway, thank you for the great video and detail! Just subscribed.

@@Filthedill thank you for this detailed response. The o-ring makes sense, given how everyone describes the leak issues. I'll look into the thermoblock design a little more. I don't notice much difference in crema nor brew time between Plus vs Next, but the brewing temperature clearly starts out lower on the Next (then rises and peaks at a similar level to the Vertuo Plus), so something is internally different. That's unfortunate you're having leak issues with the Pop - I haven't heard of issues so far. I will pin the comment so others can read the details too.

Vertuo Plus, definitely. It brews hotter and richer coffee. The Vertuo Plus brews up to only 8oz. I wish it could do larger, but Plus brews bigger cups than Original machines. If I want a bigger drink on the Plus, I usually add milk with Aeroccino frother (review coming soon).

@@craftcoffeespot but I am also a black coffee drinker and also drink a lot respectively large mug drinks. I just can not decide. I also drink very very hot coffee

@@h.cft. Hmmmm, tbh you should use a regular coffee pot. Nespresso brews cooler and only the coffee pot gets to 200+ degrees F with a hot plate. You can find "better" coffee pots with Moccamaster, DeLonghi True Brew, or Breville Precision Brewer. Sorry to steer you away from my products, but that sounds like the best for your situation.

@@craftcoffeespot hey thank you so much for your answer. I live in Germany and maybe because of that it’s not so good. I like capsule machines because of the time and it doesn’t take so much space. And it also makes crema I love Café crema or Americano. Unfortunately I hate filter coffee.🥺

Why is the next had WiFi and the plus not?

The Plus is my favorite - brews hottest for best flavor. Love the motorized head too. Worth the premium over the Plus. People get the Plus for lower price and smaller footprint.

Nothing sustains years of operations these days... People are silly thinking 'it will least'.. this is the world we do leave in.. I'd rather concentrate on practicality vs taste. I have De"Longhi with both on side (water and used cups).. One in my wifes work, and same second model home. Her work after ~ 8 years developed bad bearing. In our house started also be noiser (also same bearing problem, also unit is arround 6 years). I changed bearings in both units.. Unfortunatelly her work version stopped making good coffee, to watery with very poor taste and semi strength! So plan is ours returns back to her office, and I will purchase for $118 off Amazon the Plus. Especially for temperature... I'm very much into better taste, so that'd be hoping plus as oppose to ~ 166 F brewing for current both models. G. luck! p.s. in Poland where I visited my cousin, he had more sophisticated (but not Nespresso) coffee machine, and more expensive: boy, what a taste!! (it'd grind internally, and set size... ). I'm astonished overall how silly people are when reviewing coffee machines, totally not concentrating on taste - at least here in US where you would think since culture is so addicted to this drug people would care.. but nope, lol.... Plenty (or most) people use them without issue, but the error rate is clearly higher given so many comments. I still like the Plus for the lid and hotter brewing temp though.

I'm confused.. I thought "Next" (with WIFI) is new model.. and your Mom's ... 5years??? Are we talking about same hardware??

It could work, but it adds another step of heating water before brewing. It could also overheat the machine if you're not careful.

@@craftcoffeespot in addition will 'melt down' intensity of flavor! (guearanteed, if that is what you are willing to trade off , i.e. temp for taste (less concentration, dilluted,... really??). )

Yea, I was bummed the big sizes are only on the Next. However, you can get a custom drink size by holding the button and letting it brew to 500ml. It won't taste as good on a coffee pod because those have less coffee. Then again, I was disappointed with the 550ml carafe pods too.

They make it so difficult...Plus or Pop all the way - been trying a high-end Vertuo Lattissima and still liking the Plus.

Because it is newer, has WiFi connectivity, and can brew larger pod sizes. Mostly about the larger pods.

I still think the Vertuo Plus is the best option. I tried the premium Vertuo Lattissima machine and it brewed too cool and the coffee was unfulfilling. The Vertuo Plus motorized lid and hotter brewing make the best.
