Rob hasn't sung opera for 15 years and was very nervous about the release. Austin heard Robs part and had to go back and record his again. Rob sang this to his dad on Father's day and brought his dad to tears
Rob studied opera in college and had not sung it in 15+ years. Austin had a bit of opera when getting his degree in musical theater. Austin talked Rob into doing the video to showcase his “hidden talent”! They were very nervous about releasing the video, but they didn’t need to be. They were awesome! Glad you saw this one!!
Nessun Dorma (English Translation) Lyrics Nobody shall sleep!... Nobody shall sleep! Even you, o Princess In your cold room Watch the stars That tremble with love and with hope But my secret is hidden within me My name no one shall know... No!...No!... On your mouth I will tell It when the light shines And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!... (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win! Now it's up to you to search for the story behind this small passage "Aria" of the whole opera
I was on the signing line at a recent concert when I got to Austin I told him how much I enjoyed Nessun Dorma. Rob was standing next to him. Austin elbowed Rob and said how about Pavarotti here. The look on Austin's face was like a proud poppa. I love how much these guys genuinely care and root for each other. As for Rob, all the guys have said when asked that he has the best voice. I told Rob he is a superstar and that I want him to bring back the jazzy stuff he use to sing with Home Free b4 the sing off. There really isn't anything he can't sing.
Rob was trained in opera while in college. He told me he didn’t choose that genre for his career because he couldn’t fully commit himself to it the way he has devoted himself to Home Free. BTW - Don’t expect any more opera from them. They said this is their one and only offering in that genre. ☺️
LMAO‼️ So mind your business, let's do it anyways ‼️😂🤣 I absolutely 💯 % love your reactions ❣💕 Austin did his thing here as he does, but Rob‼️😶 Incredible ‼️🥰💕
I totally agree. Rob has the most versatile voice bcos he's so well trained. Love Austin's voice as well but for Nessun Dorma, Rob is brilliant & love the song
As an opera singer myself, I have put both the Italian, then the English translation for you. Italian Text Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Dilegua, o notte! Tramontate, stelle! Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincerò! vincerò, vincerò! English Translation Nobody shall sleep!... Nobody shall sleep! Even you, oh Princess, in your cold room, watch the stars, that tremble with love and with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, my name no one shall know... No!...No!... On your mouth, I will tell it when the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!... (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!
I think one of the best things said about this video was from an Italian opera singer/reactor who said she not only forgot they weren't opera singers she forgot they weren't Italian. Years ago Rob's vocal coach said he would have had a huge career in opera. Thank God he joined HF.
1st, lovely to see you again honey 💙 you look incredible. Hope you are well. 2nd, This is a beautiful favorite of mine. Opera + Country + Amazing Talent = Perfection! *chef's kiss* 😘
Originally sung by Pavarotti. Spoil yourself and listen to it. I am really fond of opera. However at this point in time Angelena is my very favorite singer. Love your reactions. Regards from South Africa.
Your reviews are always so predictable -- you appreciate TALENT, and HARD WORK. That's why you're one of my favorite review channels. Thanks for this video.

"Nessun Dorma" "Let no one sleep." is an aria for tenor (Calef, The Unknown Prince) from the opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini, libretto by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni.
I think that when you have the time, you may want to get a nice glass of wine and listen to the entire opera. There are some great versions with subtitles to help you out. The opera is based on a Persian story set in China. You would like the plot. A princess of great beauty has a heart of ice. She promises to marry her, but the suitor must answer three riddles. The singer of the aria we just heard is the prince who is successful, but she refuses marriage. He gives her a way out. If she can guess his name by morning, he will accept his death. She fails, but he tells her and puts his fate in her hands. The ice melts, and she marries him, telling the crowd his name is Love. The opera was one of my mother's favourites. As a poor kid working in Hungary, the opera house was one of the most affordable places, so she took advantage. As I grew up, she helped me see the light about opera as an art form. It took time, and it was not easy, but it was worth it.
I have been patiently waiting for this reaction and you did not disappoint! This proves what we Home Fries have said all along, there ain't nothin' these boys can't sing!
You're back to Home Free...albeit minus three of the guys. A good number of reactors went into this expecting some good 'ole HF comedy or perhaps lip syncing. Surprise! Given the overwhelmingly positive response to this venture (initiated by Austin), plenty of fans hoping for more opera from these two (or, perhaps, they could enlist the rest of the guys...certainly Adam can do orchestral sounds!). Applaud them for showing us how versatile and talented they are. After seeing this, many have a newfound appreciation and will see them in a totally new light.
Rob is astounding in this! Who knew he could command the barrel chested projection of a pro tenor? Austin's crossover style is lovely. Loved your eyes in this. Wide in shock. Closed to savor the sound. They told the story. Well done my friend!
Mike, none of us knew if this was going to be serious or were they gonna cut uo....it was serious and damn gorgeous....Mike PLEASE react to their new originals Understand and also Home Swrrt Home....you'll enjoy both and they were both vo-written by Rim & others,,,,bice upbeat songs !!!
Such a treat! But seriously, Rob sounds like a different artist than we hear when he sings with Home Free! I don't like opera, but these two "tried" and did what I didn't expect--they made me want to watch it over and over again. Who knew? 🤭
You look speechless I love it. They both have outstanding voices. It takes a lot to sing opera. They're not trained opera singers and if you heard Pavarotti sing that or trying to think who the other Andre bachelle signal songs, they're trained opera singers and you can tell the difference, but besides that point both of the. Home free guys have excellent tone and technique.Thank you.I love you expression like what
I do think, particularly with opera, that it's more of an emotional connection and the language doesn't really matter. I have no idea what they are singing, but their performance is what sells it for me.
Cannot agree. Since opera is telling a story, it is pretty essential to know what is going on, and you won't if you just let the words flow by as if non-existent. The tension and development of the plot are essential if the opera is not going to degenerate into musical slop. Many major opera houses now have "surtitles", with a translation running above the stage, and some national opera companies in Britain perform entirely in English.
The legendary status of our Home Free vocalists just keeps mounting to greater accolades that is very deserving of our attention. They are simply amazing and yet they are very humble. It is a privilege to enjoy their vocal gifts!!!!
I have watched this so many times... but this time, I couldn't take my eyes off your reaction. Probably because that is what I think I looked like the first time I heard it. Well done!!
You are last of the reactors that I watch and there's it is the face of surprise and amazement just like all the others. In case you didn't know Rob study opera in college but hasn't sung it in 15 years and Austin has his musical theater background 🖖🏾🎶🎶
I have always been very eclectic with my taste in music and have found that any genre has gems that bring joy to my ears. It is one of the reasons I enjoy Home Free. They are fearless in performing and appreciating so many genres. They choose good music and do them justice. Love it! ☺
That was absolutely awesome I am very fond of opera and they did it proud. Thank you for standing your ground always. My very favorite singer is Angelina. Blessings to you from South Africa.
I think the members of Home Free could do anything musically that they set their minds and talents to. This was wonderful! I love that Rob and Austin tackled an extremely challenging genre even tho' they were nervous about it. Bravo, fellas. Great reaction, as usual.
Totally agree. I was watching the voice Philippines the other day and I saw this young boy singing a song I had no idea what he was saying, but ten seconds in I was hooked.
Passion, pitch and God's gift has no boundaries! I went to my nephew's graduation that was almost entirely in African Coulter, they sang songs and danced and everything! I didn't understand 90% of it but it was a 100% a good time!
Shocking was the initial reaction particularly with Rob's lower tenor, almost baritone register. This endeavor by these guys just shows how accomplished artists they are with their talents. I have never seen or heard of a finer talented group of artists working as a group that are so talented individually as Home Free members are. The most popular band of all time were the Beatles and each member could sing and they had great harmonies. But these guys are even technically better singers as group and the fact they do it all Acapella without instruments to rely on is even more impressive than any band I have ever heard. I would guess if these guys used instruments they could even be more popular, but I respect them even more that they don't need too.
I could listen to Robb sing like this all day every day. If he ever wants to have his own channel where he sings more classical type music, I’d be there for it. I love hearing Austin out of his usual as well.
You listen to this, then Dreamer and End of the Road by Home Free, and you get a real sense of just how excellent a singer Rob really is. He can give his voice so many flavors and sing just about anything. Props out to Austin too, of course, this project was his brain child and he sang his part wonderfully as well, of course. Thanks for the reaction Micheal, glad to see you’re back!
Great Reaction! I am not a big fan of opera except maybe some Andrea Bocelli & a few others. But I have always appreciated the talent it takes to sing opera. I was pretty impressed with Rob & Austin's version of Nessun Dorma. I have heard this famous song done by Pavarotti. I think I was more surprised by Rob's range & powerful delivery than even Austin's. Pretty good for a couple of country boys! Nice to see them dressed up in suits & looking classy.
YAY! 3 of my favorite things together Nessun dorma, home free voices and your reactions! Loved this song since I first heard it by Pavarotti YEARSSSSS ago.
Welcome back! Rob has such hidden talent and wish he could be more showcased with what we just seen and in the end of the road. Been waiting for you to react to this one❤️❤️❤️
Not sure why people say they didn't know about Rob's voice, when if you listen to his solo parts in the Sea Shanty Medley you can hear that dropped larynx. First time I heard him sing "Cape Cod ships" I thought goodness, that's a voice that's been trained in classical opera.
I'm right there with you! We've seen shades of this brilliance from time to time. Just never in full focus as he showed here! Each member of Home Free is supremely talented. I truly love that we never know what they'll do next. With their versatility, Home Free will never get stagnant or boring. They keep growing stronger as a group and their creativity was definitely refueled with the time off the road for the pandemic. They've even said they were getting really burnt out from all the touring. And yet, they jumped in with both feet to bring new ways of retaining and adding to their fanbase by entertaining us and keeping many of us sane during much of the lockdown time. There's no doubt why we Home Fries are so loyal. Because they showed their loyalty to us and continue to lead by example how to remain humble, and be great humans. ❤
Your comments were spot on! It’s the emotion of music that is most important, the words can help, but are not always “the whole bag ‘o chips”. I can hear a bird singing in harmony to a mountain brook, never knowing why the bird is so happy, or what the brook babbles about, yet it brings me joy just the same.
They are absolutely amazing. And to think the producers of the Sing Off didn’t want Rob to take the lead in the songs they sung on there The guys had to fight to get Rob to take the lead on Colder Weather .
Lynn it is obvious that you are a true and longstanding supporter. What I have learned about the producers of reality shows is that their immaturity often drives them to encourage conflict. The best of people react by coming tighter with each other. I don't doubt that when several artists spend many years together some words of frustration or anger may have been expressed but they have always spoken well of each other in public with sincerity. I like this as much as I love the blend of their beautiful voices.
@@barrydouglas6276 you are exactly right about the producers . I have been watching and rooting for them since their time on The Sing Off .I know they consider themselves like brothers and like all families they have disagreements but find a way to work it out 😌
So glad you’re back; watching the joy on your face & how you were transfixed by their voices, may I recommend in your extra time(ha ha) & you don’t necessarily have to post a video of it, but watch Pavarotti’s version-think this compares very favorably with it & Pavarotti was a maestro tenor; have a great rest of the week, hope all is well with your daughter, stay safe & take care; peace & hugs. ☮️☮️❤️❤️🤗🤗🥰🥰👍👍🎄🎄
*This is why music is such an amazing language, all in itself.......* I do not understand one word they sang, but I felt every lyric, every note, and every emotion, which says a lot about their amazing artistry, talent & delivery❣❣❣
🙌 I am one of the very few Millennial/older GenZ professional historians in existence right now...and I constantly worry that my peers and I might essentially be THE LAST professional historians...they don't even teach cursive writing in school anymore! How the heck are you ever going to read 17th century calligraphic script if you can't even read plain cursive!?! And opera-lovers always kind of remind me of my own passion for history. They're both basically "lost arts". Let's all try to keep them alive, for future generations eh?🙏
I listened to your reaction again...... 😊 The capability of excellence by each of the individuals in this group is off the charts awesome that allows them the flexibility to do so many types of vocalizations and to do it exceptionally well. I have not found a genre they are afraid to tackle whether individually or as a group they are amazing. Then top that off with their arrangements that augment the presentation to be "Home Free" owned.❣
My exposure to opera is pretty much limited to that one bugs bunny cartoon so I won't pretend I know anything about it. But this is so beautiful. I love that these dudes can still surprise me.
I was sitting listening to you say they’re getting ready to sing opera ! And believing that they could but not actually having the awareness of how awesome they’d both be singing! Congratulations welcome to the next level of HF members abilities! Rob took this 15 years ago in college and Austin took musical theater with a little opera Look the meaning of it up it’s so beautiful and more meaningful! Rob delivered the message near the end with awesome feelings to match his words!
I'm with you. I love everybody in Home Free but Rob is "the IT," as a tiny friend of mine would say. If any Pentafry reading this comment knows me, you'll understand when I say that Rob Lundquist is "my other Avi." I'm so glad Austin encouraged him to record this! I'll listen to Rob whenever, whatever.
They accomplished what they set out to do and did it well. As was previously stated, Rob was classically trained and Austin was theatrically trained. Even the great Avi Kaplan is a classically trained basso profundo. Great men making great music.
Austin was classically trained from adolescence and that continued at college. The college he attended (on full scholarship for voice) demanded the same standards in voice from opera students and music theatre students. Many lessons were common between the two and all audition pieces had to be prepared for all types of show. Austin's teachers wanted him to stay on and switch to opera, hearing a rare thing, a true lyric tenor with the incisiveness for opera.
The words are Italian, I don't know what the words mean either, but they sang them beautifully. I knew Austin had a powerhouse voice, but this is about the largest I've seen Rob open his mouth when singing and he can belt those vocals too. I was really impressed.
Check out their 'How Great Thou Art' at the end of a show that had to be stopped during a thunderstorm. Austin called for "projection" and Rob killed it. Kearney, MO. It was off mic under a pavilion.
