I would say It's more on par with the nest Mini 2 they complement each other now.

You have to sign into your account on your nest hub. But what if everyone in the house want to use and control lights , thermostat and view door bell camera alerts? How do you manage the sign ID if you are sharing the nest hub?

you can have multiple accounts on the nest hub. everyone in our family even our kids have one. nest hub recognizes your voice and serves you personal results :)

If you are speaking of the nest mini's, yes the nest hub gen1/gen2 both have just as good if not better than the mini speakers

The bass is almost nonexistent on the Nest Minis whereas the Nest Hub is an actual fullrange speaker

You cannot set the remaining timer WHICH is annoying but the timmer will still countdown & alarm go odd when zero.

It is slow? I've seen an article that it says that it has a really, really slow processing power, so everything you do takes a lot of time.

Even though it has a slightly faster processor, there does not seem to be much difference between the Gen 1 & Gen 2 when using the touch screen it's is sometimes laggy, no real improvement, the main improvement is the sound quality.

Is the lag a deal breaker? Better off with the nest audio?

For voice the lag is not that bad it responds just in about the same amount of time as the nest mini, so for me I would not say a deal breaker. The sound quality of the Nest Hub Gen 2 is Much better than the Gen 1 it's more like the New nest mini. But I guess the nest Audio has better audio quality. If you want a screen I would recommend the Gen 2 otherwise I would go with the Nest Audio.

I got the first generation for my wife and she has it in the kitchen. She freaking loves the heck out of it. I paid for RU-vidTV and Google premium so she pretty much has every service you can think of. And of course the services Branch out to the rest of my devices in the house. I was also concerned about lag, and honestly this devices do lag but they are not intended to be swiped around. Your voice is the way you're going to control the entire device and during those commands you can barely tell there's any lag. We use it for movies music and TV content. The movies play excellent TV is flawless and the music never skips or lags The only time you will experience lag is if you use your fingers to control the device which again there is no purpose when you could use your voice.
