I've watched a few of your videos and they are excellent and well explained, but I can't quite find the answer I'm looking for. I have an Ideal Logic H24 boiler with 2 zones. The downstairs zone had a mains powered controller for zone 1 and hot water and it was simple to replace the existing thermostat with the heatlink in it's place and just wire 12v across from the Heatlink to the Nest thermostat situated next to it. Upstairs zone 2 is trickier as it's battery powered and only has the COM and NO wires so no mains power, meaning I need to install the Heatlink by the boiler but the only wires available in the boiler are Live, Neutral, Earth and Switch Live 1. Everything else comes off the back of that and disappears into a circuitboard. I can't therefore locate the other end of the COM and NO that I have upstairs to wire into the 12v of the Heatlink and there's no obvious zone 2 COM and NO to wire into the heatlink either....

Great video :) Do you know if the thermostat e can also be used to signal a 2 port valve to open two, e.g. is using it on an s plan system to control radiators (and ufh in the other separate zone). The valves have way more wires than just the two needed by the thermostat e heatlink??

@@UrbanPlumbers Thanks. Actually I don't have a tank and simply controlled hot water temp directly on the combi boiler. I already had the thermostat E connected to my boiler for some time working fine to control radiators by connecting the common and No wire from heatlink to the 24v RC controls in the combi. So, now we have added a UFH zone for downstairs, I will only be using the thermostat E for the radiator zone upstairs only. I assume I should now move the common/No connection from the heatlink to the 2 port valve for the rads and somehow connect other wires from the 2 port to the boiler ?? Unfortunately my plumber understands valves and plumbing but not much about nest :(

You don’t need the programmer. 1 nest can do both hot water + 1 zone, 2nd just 2nd zone heating. When you do it that way 1st Nest is set up as ‘system boiler’ and 2nd nest as ‘combi boiler’. White vaillant however you would be much better off with Vaillant own controls as this would allow you Hot water priority and modulating controls - much better efficiency overall and you can still use Vaillant app and remote control. It’s not as sleek as Nest but will be beneficial to your bills and your system performance

So this video does not show the important steps of adding the heat link and connecting the Thermostat E. What a waste of time. I was forced to buy a new Nest Thermostat E, because the wifi stopped working on the original one. It is still under warranty but I don't know where it was bought from and the plumber does not want to know - he's been paid. I think it will be much easier to go back to having an old fashioned timer. At least that works.

undercrackers56 contact nest directly, they are very good sending replacements even without receipt. As everything those can fail but it is very rare.
