excellent help-my wife had been complaining that she just wanted a schedule and this was simple to do - my first real experience with nest - this was a 10 out of 10
@RandomCyclist
@RandomCyclist Год назад
There is no ‘off’ option in the scheduling. At the time you wish the heating/cooling to be off, you set a temperature which will not trigger the thermostat e.g. if you were heating, then set a temperature at which the room is unlikely to drop to. This means the thermostat won’t detect a need to switch on the heating. You then set a temperature at a later time when you know you wish the room to be at that temperature. The thermostat will calculate how long it will take to heat the room to that temperature and start the heating accordingly. Note the time set is the time you want the room to reach the temperature you’ve set, so it will start the heating before that time to bring it up to temperature. The same applies if using for cooling. Hope this is clear and helps.

The Nest website and booklet instructions are of limited assistance. This video presents the clearest explanation of the thermostat scheduling process. Some days I ask myself if manufacturers develop "smart" devices just because it is technologically possible. "Dumber" devices did 90% of the job with minimal setup ! Smart devices can do much more and can be accessed remotely. However, the myriad of options (many rarely used) and the need to "teach" them every step of the way can be frustrating. Using this video, I programmed my heating schedule in about 10 minutes. Thank you 😊

Hi thanks for the video. I have a question if anyone can help please. I have set up manual temperatures for time when I want heat on and lower temperatures when I don't to prevent the Nest coming on ( unless extreme temperatures are reached ). This works well, but if I want to deviate from this - say because I'm at home when I am normally out, what should I do? So I tried turning up the thermostat in the app and that works, the heating runs, but how long for? and when will the Nest drop back into my schedule? TIA

Thank you for the helpful video. Now when you are done setting up all these schedules, do you turn off the "Auto Schedule" sense? Also, what happens if you decide to change the temperature temporarily for a few hours and want to go back to the set schedule again? Let's say you have lots of ppl around and need to lower the temperature while you have guests over. Thank you.

First video I've found that actually explains some simple tasks. My question is what happens after you set the start time. So for example I set it to 21o at 8am what happens between then and the next time. What I'd like to do is have it switch off after say 1 hour. I'm running some tests now with the schedule.
@Sbuswell

Did you ever find out what happens between two times? Does the heating drop or maintain the temperature you set it, until it reaches the next one?

If you have set up a schedule it reverts to the new temperature. I understand how it works so I set the temp just below what it would reasonably come on at. It then starts again once you reach the new time. @@Sbuswell

I have used the scheduling and it all looked great. However our installer/technician set it as we advised at 19C (in UK its centigrade), we decided to up it to 22C. Worked fine, toasty warm but at 3:00 am this morning when up for a toilet break my husband found the radiators were on. Boiler was supposed to go off at 10:30pm! So now we are worried as we are presently staying in our apartment which is also a holiday let when we are not here and when we leave I want to turn the heating schedule down to 11C then when we come back in 3 weeks - I will turn the temperature on the schedule back up to 19C. But now we are worried if the NEST isn't doing as it's told. It's new and only installed 4 days ago. Any advice, any reason why this could be happening. It seemed fine initially when temperature was 19C and only seems to have gone haywire after we upped to 22C. ADVICE PLEASE!

Hello, thank you for the video. Im a little confused though. On a normal thermostat and boiler, I would schedule my boiler for 6-8am to turn the heating on so it is warm by time im up and then set it again for 6-9pm so it's warm once back from work. Now we have this nest I cant see how you do that? In your video you set to x degrees for 7am but how long will it stay on? Does it turn on at 7am for example and then just stay on for the whole day?

Great question. I don't use a boiler, so unsure of your situation. In making a schedule I would normally set heat to 68 during the night hours and then bump to 72 during the hours I was getting up and ready. When leaving the house I would program back down to 68 until about 5pm or so. I would suggest testing out what hours you would need to set to get your boiler churning your desired temps. Not sure how much I really helps there.
@nickhoare8906
@nickhoare8906 2 года назад
I am still learning but my understanding is this. You ‘teach’ it in the first week by setting the temperature when you get up. Suffering cold mornings for the week. Then in the following week, with ‘True Radiant’ on, it learns how long ahead of time it need to start the heating in order to reach the temperature you set in the morning. I also think it does keep the temperature the same until you change it. I am guessing that it will also learn, in the first week when you set the temperature having come back from work, to set this in advance so it has reached that temperature when you come home. Everyone here seems to be wanting to manually schedule which is missing the point of a Nest isn’t it?

@SmartHomeMojo 2 года назад
I'm not aware of that ability. There are modes with the Nest, Heat, Cool and Heat & Cool. With the modes of Heat and Cool, you can program single temps that the Nest should stay locked onto when programmed. With Heat & Cool, you can program a certain range in which both heating & cooling will stay within a range. That mode may work for you. Please let me know if it does, interested to find out.

@SmartHomeMojo 3 года назад
The temp would stay at 70 degrees until a number of things happened. First, you physically changed the temp directly on the Nest or via the App, or you reached another point when a programmed schedule change occurred or you left the house and had different temps programmed in with Eco temps. In my situation, the temp stays at 72 all night until I get up in the morning and make a change right on the Nest.

Is there a way to program it to go completely off at night?
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 3 года назад
There are two ways that you can make sure the Nest doesn't come on at night. In the settings under Mode that is a manual option to turn the Nest off but that is not something that can be scheduled. If you do you a schedule you can certainly program in temps at night that you know will be out of range for the Nest to turn on. Where I live, it doesn't often get below 65 in the house at night, so I program the heat to 65 during the night hours until about 6:45am.

I always set a range of times. I set two times for my AC to come on. I set it to 74 at 8pm and then 79 at 8am. I do not use the auto/learning feature of the Nest, but rather set my own schedules. If you only scheduled one temp, the thermostat would always bet set to that one temp. I think you need to pick a second time & temp so the Nest can then turn off.

There is no off but ya can kinda do it but when you would want off schedule the temp to change to temp that will keep it from running It’s winter time so i want it to start to warm the house at 5:00Am to 70 degrees and shut “off” at 6:30am so i drop the temp to 63 degrees So the house won’t heat till I gets that cold Over all nest kinda sucks

Love them or hate them, I think they definitely save people money and give people the option to control remotely if they need to.
