Very useful thanks - we are installing 4 gen 3’s and 4 temp sensors - this will help once we get through the naming - assume you can setup a parent to control all 4 thermostats through an Alexa skill

Glad the video helps, good luck with install. I have tried the Alexa skills and also looked into a routine to control multiple Nest Thermostats with one command/action, and have not been successful. I'm not sure your can control multiple Nest's as you described. Also, the Nest Thermostats don’t share temperature schedules because they control the temperature for different parts of your home. Please share if you are successful. Thanks!

When you set a temperature using the program at a specific hours, will it keep that temperature at the setpoint until the next change of temperature in the schedule. (if I set 68 at 8 am and 60 at 2 pm will it keep 68 between 8 and 2 and then keep 60 between 2 pm and 8 am next morning)? Thank you
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
Yes, the 68 temp you set at 8am will keep until the 60 temp becomes the new set temp at 2pm. The 60 temp will hold until the next scheduled temp, in your case 68 degrees at 8am the next morning.

@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
Yes, you can set a 4-digit PIN and lock the Nest Thermostats. Just go into the App settings on your smartphone (or do this right on the Nest Thermostat dial as well. After you set the PIN, you can then set a 5-degree range on the Thermostat. On my upstairs Nest, I have it set between 72-77. No one can pick a temp out of that range unless I unlock the Nest Thermostat.

If you turn the Home/Away Assist feature on and set a higher temp in between schedules that might work. I'm not sure you can program your Nest to turn off in between scheduled times. With Home/Away Assist you can program a higher temp when the Nest senses that you are Away from your home. Does that make sense?

@SmartHomeMojo

That's not a bad idea at all. Instead of picking a temp and having it run longer to hit a targeted higher temp, plan a gradual temp increase.

Why does mine say that it's going to take like 2+ hours to get to the target temp, for example 78? And it's always running, while with my old thermostat the house would cool down fast and then the AC would turn off. I feel like it's using more energy.
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
Sometimes when I adjust my Nest to a new temp it does say it will take 1+ hours or even longer for it to get to the new target temp. I've noticed that isn't always the case and have times it on a few occasions - most often it's less time. Do you have the 'Fan' setting tuned on with the Nest? If the 'Fan' setting is turned on it might seem that the AC is running longer after the target temp is reached, but it's just the Fan running to keep the air circulating.

Addition to my recent comment: I like to turn off the device (system) at night whether it is in "cool" or "heat" mode. Sometimes moving between menus works (after I found out about "pushing" on the ring then using the "dial" to move within the menu) and sometimes it doesn't ....Again very frustrating!
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
Yes, 'pushing' in on the ring is how you select the choices for each of the settings on the Nest Thermostat. It becomes second nature the more you live with the device. I use the App on my smartphone to do all (most) the controlling.

Depending on if you set up the schedule for Heat/Cool or Heat & Cool, the thermostat should kick in to whatever times you programmed. Just verify the schedule under each mode and then verify if the thermostat turns on/off during those times.

@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
Yes, 'copy week' is pretty much a useless feature from Nest at this time since you can't look forward to schedule any future weeks. Maybe Nest Gen 4 will have scheduling functionality where we can utilize this 'copy week' feature and plan out multiple week schedules.
@EH1956
@EH1956 4 года назад
So helpful thank you. Can you explain the ECO mode?
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
ECO mode is meant to help you save money. Let's say you are at home and have the AC on and set to 72 degrees. You have to run out for a few hours and forget to adjust the AC up to a higher temp, let's say 78 degrees while you're out. If you have the Nest set to ECO or have the Home/Away Assist turned on, the Nest detects you're not at home, and adjusts the temp to your pre-set ECO temp to help you save money. I hope that helps, if not, let me know and I'll try to elaborate more.

Idk what you mean? The fan will auto set a lot of the times without heat. Idk why your heat is on all day, how big is your house, and are there any windows open?
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
You can go into the settings on the Nest or from your smartphone and program the fan (on/off) to run from 15 minutes up to 12 hours. Not sure if your furnace is suppose to be running all day, but if you have the Nest programmed to 69, it will kick on when the temp gets below that level. Hope that helps, if not, send another comment.

@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 4 года назад
You can copy and clear days at a time, but not multiple days. On the smartphone, hold down your finger on a certain day and it will ask you to either 'copy' or 'clear day'. You can then copy that days temp settings to another day or just clear the day and enter new settings.

If you have created a set schedule, will the auto-schedule function still work if turned on? I.e. Would it ammend my set schedule depending if I change the set temperature? If not, and I want it to auto schedule again, do I delete my set schedule?
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 5 лет назад
Great question, here's what I know. Once you create a set schedule I'm not sure how much learning the thermostat is doing as you have a pre-set schedule ongoing. If you have both a set schedule and the auto-schedule feature turned on, I think the Thermostat defaults to the set schedule, that's been my experience. If you want to use the auto-schedule feature and are running a set schedule, I would delete the set schedule and let the auto-schedule feature begin to learn your cooling and heating preferences again. I hope that helps.

Great question. Yes, you can turn off/on the Nest Thermostat either directly on the thermostat or remotely. Push in on the Nest and go to the 'mode' icon. You will have an 'off' option in their to select. To turn the thermostat back on you have to go back in and unselect 'off' to turn back on. Same instructions if you were to do this on the App on your smartphone.

@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 5 лет назад
There are multiple 'modes' to your Nest Thermostat. You can run it on just heat, just cool or a combo of heat & cool. I use the heat/cool option during the month(s) or so that it's transitioning seasons (fall & spring) where I might you a bit of heat and/or cool in the same day. When you have it on the heat/cool mode it gives you both a heat & cool temperature to set. Otherwise, if you programmed the Nest for heat your would get only orange dots and cool only blue dots. Hope that helps.
@Sasoes1
@Sasoes1 5 лет назад
@@SmartHomeMojo I think Mike has the same question I have. Say we set our schedule up for our degrees. Once the thermostat reaches said degrees will it turn off, then when our next scheduled time comes up will the nest kick the unit on and turn it off?
@bonniekuncl4770
@bonniekuncl4770 5 лет назад
Yes by doing that you are setting the temps you want at the chosen times. Ie I have it set for 70 at 8 am and then I set it at 68 for the evening temps for bedtime at 11:00 pm. So my house warms up to 70 in morning and then cut backs to 68 for bedtime. You set other times during the day if you want to set it back while you aren’t home during the day and then heat comes on at 4:00 pm to warm my house when I get home, but then lowers temp for bedtime.

Over-riding the schedule by manual adjustment of temp on app or nest itself changes temp for like 5 min before it reverts to the schedule. There must be a better solution.

@chrisberardi2304
@chrisberardi2304 3 года назад
Nest really made a mess of the manual schedule capability. Setting the time and temperature is really fiddly to do: My fingers keep adjusting the time when I’m trying to change the temperature and vice versa. Also, there is no rhyme or reason to copy a weekly schedule as there is nowhere to paste it as there is only one weekly schedule. Lastly the capability you need is to copy a day to another day and this is not obvious at all. I’ve called Nest and even they couldn’t tell me. This is by using the Nest app on a mobile device. They have not updated the mobile app and obviously haven’t listened to anyone’s suggestions in years judging by the comments! Other thermostats are much more logically implemented. You would think that the approach they use to copy a week would be how you would copy a day - but it isn’t and this fact is what is so confusing and why people cannot determine how to copy a day. As I mentioned I called Nest Help and they weren’t able to tell me how to copy a day. Obviously the Help don’t know the product and that’s after waiting days for help.
@SmartHomeMojo
@SmartHomeMojo 3 года назад
Correct, the copy a week function does not work, but the scheduling function on either smartphone or Nest itself isn't that horrible. I prefer scheduling on my iPhone using the Nest App. That option seems to be the most effective and easiest method.
