Nestor Makhno is a personal hero of mine. He informs the way I live my life to a great degree. His love of humanity and liberty and his commitment towards defending them both should be celebrated by all that hold these ideals close to their heart.

I’ve been searching for it some months. Apparently, now I can be sure that the one on Makhno is the only documented version of this type. (If you don’t count the cheap but still interesting remake.) Not a single footage of a simmiliar coat exists. I think it was specifically sewed in Huliaipole for Nestor, possibly even having no copies. It seems like a mixture of frogging and duffle zipping, very original. In Nine Lives of Nestor Makhno, they just put circle patched there and made the coat connect through normal belts that started in one circle and ended in the other. I still need to visit Huliaipole and see Makhno’s statues with the coat itself. In reality, this is the most probable option: The circles are some string-roles (English is not my first language, I dunno) circled in a spiral and ending in the middle. The string-ropes, as we can see, were twisted together and probably had something on their end. The thing on their end was put into something on the second circle. I have no idea from what material it was made, but one thing is sure: Makhno’s mom wasn’t Happy to see her Son Coming home with one string-rope cut in half.
What I think this normal coat what people with higher status wore in Eastern countries.Saw something very similar in Russian cartoon(I know he wasnt Russian but cultures are way connected) and some movie.Homestead owners,mayors etc.

Makhno and his bandits attacked my great grandfather and his parents a dozen of times. They came to the farm my ancestors owned in the russian steppe and shot into the air, robbed and menaced them. They lived with fear for years. My great great grandfather moved into the fight against him after one of his men tried to rape my great great grandmother while my great grandfather, 6 years old at that time, stood next to her. He tried to defend her, despite his age. The member of Makhnos gang menaced to kill the boy if she would not sleep with him and stroked his cheek with a long saber. I don't know if he raped her or not. My great grandfather himself told me that story when he was over 90. After that night, my great great grandfather took one of the best horses and rode away. He didn't return home before he killed the man who attacked his wife and kid. Since that moment Makhno and his men tried to find and kill my great great grandfather and he had to hide in neighbouring villages, he couldn't see his family for weeks. My great grandfather told me how at one night the Makhno Gang came and attacked their small village. That means that they burned down houses and killed peaceful unarmed civilians. He managed to escape the house with his grandmother before they could stop them. They went to hide in a close forest. After some hours hiding they went to the neighbouring families. He was still 6 years old at that time and he told me that he saw a lot of blood. One of the neighbours without head. His friends crying because of their dead parents. 16 people have been killed that day. Makhno was a son of a bitch, I hope that he suffers in hell
1) the black army didn't rape and pillage. there were other armies documented in operation at that time claiming to be with makhno who were raiders. when they were found by the makhnovists they were shot. the makhnovist army was a peasant army. 2) your grandfather's family owned slaves. you don't get to complain about what amounts to a slave rebellion.
I dont idolize people but also I dont curse the people too much.When war comes out the hell turn on to earth. Especially when there was bad social situation and landowners hold their own privileges. the founders of the ussr were mostly middle class bourgies or higher, and after those died out the ussr was hijacked by a bunch of revisionists. even during stalin there were tons of them there. Makhno was an imporisoned peasant that fought for anarchy his whole life.
