A review of the NET Bible Full Notes edition. This Bible has over 60,000 notes on the meaning of words, why they translated a passage the way they did, historical background, theological significance, and extensive notes on questions about the original wording of a biblical passage. A monster of a Bible and well worth owning. And I am giving away a copy.

I own the first edition NET in leather and a second edition in cloth. I got the diglot from Jamesdickson books in scotland. I also have a NET synopsis of the 4 gospels. I like the first edition most because the hebrew test is classical hebrew but the 2nd edition uses an ugly sans serif font that is nothing like the hebrew has looked for thousands of years, The NET notes are just magnificent. The 2nd edition also has drawn maps but the 1st has satelite photography

I have recently started using the NET Bible with full notes. I feel like I’ve been digging a foundation with a shovel and someone just gave me an excavator. The notes are so thorough and revealed items in the Scriptures that I never knew were there. An example is Psalm 48:2 which most translations which talks about Zion being in the north or the remote north. The Hebrew actually uses the phrase “the peaks of Zaphon”. In Hebrew Zaphon can be used as a generic reference to the N, however the NET Bible points out that Zaphon was actually considered a meeting place of the gods, similar to Mount Olympus in Greek mythology. That would have been entirely missed in every other Bible I consulted.

In using the NET bible link I examined the whole Chapter 1. This took over an hour. I enjoyed what was discussed in John 1:14 in looking at the Greek word translated in John 3:16 as “only begotten” actually means one of a kind or unique. In studying 1:14 I understand 3:16 even more with the comparisons of how the Greek word was translated poorly and what it truly means. I am a supply pastor. This bible would enrich my sermons and make me more effective. Thanks for the opportunity to learn more about this publication and it’s uses.

I looked up John 1:4 in depth and I am falling for this bible. I found this refers back to Psalms and that Life and especially eternal life is one of the major themes of the book of John. John 1:4 alludes to Psalm 36:9 expressing Jesus is the “fountain of life”. Later in Judaism Bar 4:2 also expresses this sentiment. I will definitely be downloading the app and I’m sure it will invaluable to my study of God’sword. Jesus is life and without him we have not eternal life and light.

Currently I am going through the catechism of the Anglican church. A few weeks ago, we had been discussing the Trinity. I liked how the NET Bible’s textural notes on John 1 explaining how πρός (pros) infers not just nearness, but an intimate personal relationship. I also really liked the way the NET bible notes explained that the part of the verse, the word was fully God, can be interpreted as what God was the Word was. These notes are helpful to understand the meaning behind what John is trying to convey. I found the notes extremely useful in reading John 1. What an amazing resource.

ORIGIN OF DICHOTOMY First recorded in 1580-90; from Late Latin dichotomia, from Greek dichotomía “dividing in two (of the quarters of the moon), point of a bisection, division into two parts”; see origin at dicho-, -tomy. I learned a new word. The note format is great, especially for someone who really studies the Bible. They go in depth on a lot of topics that normal preachers wouldn't preach about. I think it may be a bit much for someone starting out. It's a beautiful Bible and a great study tool.

I found this note in verse 14 and 15 interesting: The Greek word translated "took up residence" (σκηνόω, skēnoō) alludes to the OT tabernacle, where the Shekinah, the visible glory of God’s presence, resided. The author is suggesting that this glory can now be seen in Jesus (note the following verse). I suppose this is the same idea as the Apostle Paul uses when he talks about the body as a temple.

Please consider this comment for entry in the bible give away. I'm glad I found this channel! Very informative and engaging. The notes in this bible are wonderful. One in Particular stood out was John chapter 1 verse 48 in regards to Nathaniel and the fig tree which under its shade that rabbis would teach. Made me think that Nathaniel was a rabbi And became a student of jesus or Nathaniel was a student in search for a rabbi ( Jesus ) And to think more about the significance of figs falling in revelation of jesus Christ. So many footnotes in bibles I've read in the past where basically very short and "because someone said so" without any historical cultural connotation to the time of jesus.
