Kai Lawrence's 2013 interview brought him overnight fame as a hero for coming to the aid of a woman being assaulted. Three months after that appearance, Lawrence hitchhiked across the country to New York City where he met 73-year-old lawyer Joseph Galfy. He later murdered the lawyer inside his New Jersey home. Now, the bizarre case of Kai the Hitchhiker is the subject of Netflix's new No. 1 documentary, "The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker."

Tell me about it! I had an ex that suffered from schizophrenia and I had no idea at the time cause when we met he was on his meds, he was so kind and loving and generous but when he went off! Boy! It was a nightmare! It was like I had met a whole different person. This man was convinced I was putting things in his food trying to control him and kill him, locking me up in room for hours, calling the police on me telling them I am trying to poison him. I wouldn’t understand what was happening until I spoke to his mother. Long story short I had break up with him after he tried to kill me on night. If I date someone now I wanna know if they have mental health issues cause I don’t wanna go through that again. And please I am not bashing anyone with mental health issues cause if the person is medicated it can be controlled but if it’s not then it’s not easy to deal with. Nobody but people that’s been in a life or death situation can relate to the emotions that course through ur mind which is wired to act on them. There will not be a fair trial without full course evaluations. Did they ever stop to think to black light the lawyers room? A kit on Kai? A TMEE( traumatic mental evaluation exam)? @EyesOfTheBeast his story is he was raped, and then dropped off at the bus station, where he HUGGED his supposed rapist, and later went back to him for a place to stay. The victim didn't even have defensive wounds, meaning he never saw the initial blow to the head coming (if he was raping him, he would've seen it coming). Kai may have been triggered by something and had a violent episode (his history showed evidence of those). Then again, his history also showed evidence that makes it seem like he wanted to be a vigilante. Either way, at the end of the day, he brutally murdered someone who never even had the chance to defend himself, and then proceeded to smear his victim's name, even though there is not a shred of evidence the guy did anything wrong. Also, would you give someone a friendly hug the morning after supposedly being raped, and then go back to them for a place to stay the night? Gotta admit none of that sounds right.

I read into this recently cause I missed all the viral stuff from a few years ago and there was some really weird details about the man he killed. KAI seemed like he really may have been self defense and panicked. There were some really weird details about the connections the man he killed had to the judge and that the guy he killed was know to pu homeless people and possibly do sexual things to and with them. I believe the man that was killed brother was interviewed and said something about his brother doing devious things. Idk just strange story all around

I believe Kai, at least to an extent, because while he is clearly off his rocker, he also seems like a very childish and non-violent person. I have a feeling the lawyer took him in with the clear intention to have a sexual relationship with Kai (Although maybe Kai didn't realize this in this impaired mental state) and then Kai freaked when he came onto him. Probably not justified in the eyes of the law, but I can see where Kai is coming from.

In the Netflix documentary Kai shared that in the incident where he smashed the hatchet over the guys head 3 times he was in that guys car after being picked up hitch hiking and had shared a joint with him that he said was "wet", meaning it had been dipped in something. He didn't tell the guy and then said the guy couldn't handle it which is why he might've been attacking people on the side of the road after they got in an accident and he had to hit him over the head with the hatchet. He had a very difficult upbringing and had serious mental health issues. The incident with the lawyer was not looking good on his part. So it's a tragedy, especially for the dead lawyer.
