Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes are a great resource for producing results that are colorfast and very washable. With a basic understanding of how things work, you will begin to see better results in your projects. For beginners who want to achieve great results from using fiber reactive dyes with both cloth (natural fibers) and other natural raw materials such as paper, reeds, caning (or even wood) as well as experienced fiber artists who want to improve their practice when working with fiber reactive dyes.
In this chapter from the 7-hour workshop, Claire demonstrates how to create neutral or muddy tonal colors which are complimentary (therefore neutral) to all colors -- because to some extent they are a combination of the 3 primary colors (red, yellow, blue). She takes a standard premixed Brown from her supplier and muddies it up with Acid Lemon Yellow dye and Red-Brown and finally a bit of Royal blue and reduces the color intensity with thickener to achieve a sand color.
In doing so, Claire answers the question of how to create neutrals in your home or commercial studio from colors you already have -- neutrals that are unique to your work and tastes.
