Physical Therapist Margaret Martin demonstrates how to find your neutral shoulder or scapulae position.
The position of our scapulae (shoulder blades) dictates not only the alignment of our arms but also the alignment of our head.
In this episode we explore feeling the range of our scapulae positions from protraction (shoulder blades apart) to retraction (shoulder blades together). We find your neutral scapulae position both in standing and lying.
Once you gain control of identifying and holding your neutral scapulae position during a moment of stillness, you can better control the alignment of your scapula when you exercise and move.
Gaining the knowledge and muscle control of your scapula will allow you to age stronger with exercise.
