This week we are metal detecting an incredible 1740’s estate tucked way back on a 1/4mile driveway, but it almost didn’t happen.
When Doug and I drove down the driveway and spoke to the property owner about metal detecting the property she politely said no thank you. We were a little bummed as we knew the potential this place has but we accepted her answer and just chatted for a bit. We talked about the property in general and she kindly described all the unique features that only a house of this age would have. The structures were incredible with hand laid block and brick, dug from a quarry located right on the property. Before I knew it she invited me inside to see the walk-in fireplace, the exposed hand hewn beams, and an overall tour of this stunning 300 year old home. After touring the inside for a while and sharing stories she totally surprised me by saying, “I guess metal detecting the property would be fine”. I told her we’d try to find her some display worthy period pieces and she liked that idea. So we now have one day to get to work and see what amazing treasures are waiting in this yard that’s clearly never been touched!
