This ship is always worth the effort to catch on video as well as pictures. Always out to please the gatherings of people on the pier. As you can see, it was a rainy day, I was amazed at the turnout on such a day!
This for some reason made me emotional. In times like these its good to see someone doing something solely for the purpose of making other people happy. We need more of this, and my god I hope this current situation goes away and dies in history never to return. #2021hastobebetter

Who wouldn't love seeing the James R Barker .... Imaginative and Musical with those Horns ... Love it ... Thanks for all your video's ... really appreciated!
@@AphexTwinII please, shush. Grown ups are talking about things you might understand 10 years after you get your pubes, if you pay attention to reality that is. In millenial speak, which I presume is your preferred dialect, that means STFU.
I absolutely chuckled when I heard a train horn on a ship! I was surprised to see the old style lifeboats since most ships I've seen lately I seem to have the new modern powered enclosed versions they can't even be tipped over
I have a train horn on my 94 cadillac fleetwood , mounted under my front bumper , makes people get a move on at the green light , and good for scaring the crap out of people walking down the street when you slip up on em , lots of fun
I just found out about this bridge and the salutes a few nights ago. The James R Barker. What a set of horns! Never heard that kind of enormity with any horn. Absolutely fantastic. Any other ships with that kind of tone? I need to put some of those on my Honda accord. Too bad my car would look like the blues brothers car when they were advertising the gig.
The Twin Ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin, are located at the western part of Lake Superior and together are considered the largest freshwater port in the world. They are twin cities and seaports, connected to the Atlantic Ocean through the Great Lakes and the Saint Lawrence Seaway. Wikipedia

I need to make a trip up there with my family at some point, that was brilliant. How/where do you get the timetable of ships and is the announcer always there describing things? Thanks for taking the time to make and upload your videos.
Rounded bow is for the most cargo carrying capacity, if they sharpened the bow they would lose a lot of cargo space. Engineers decided the distances the lakers travel, the efficiency's were not worth it.
I imagine many large ships like these have horns that are earsplitting from 800-1000ft away? Probably more earsplitting than the horns on the Jumbo Washington State Ferries.
Why do the ships on the great lakes have a big round bow section and not a bulbous bow as ocean going ships mostly have,, is it because of the moorings,, or sailing in fresh water,, in the docks here in Belfast they mostly bulbous bow ships,, ☘️☘️☘️☘️from Northern Ireland greatly appreciated thank you
An abbreviated explanation: Since the distances on the Great Lakes are relativity short, they make more money with the extra storage capacity of the ship with the round bow. The shipping profit beats the less efficient round bow.
@@PaulScinocca thanks Paul as I work repairing ships in harland and wolff shipyard in Belfast,, northern Ireland and always thought the bulbous bow was for efficiency as it caused the waves to be pushed around the ships,, love seeing them videos posted on the great lakes ships and noting the water displacement as they move through the water,, ☘️☘️☘️thanks for your reply ☘️☘️☘️👍👍👍also watched programme on the edmond Fitzgerald,, because of the song amazing waters and as dangerous as an ocean 👍👍👍👍
We need more thousand foot long ships and an Martian invasion so we can get together as a community Then we should all turn off the network news and watch me TV reruns LOL
