Had a cool course pro get tired of watching me hook every shot with my driver on the range before playing, he showed me basically this one thing with the grip (rolled my right hand ever further over the top of my left then this video) and it was like a miracle from the golf Gods, i almost started hitting a fade instantly. Still works years later although i forget at times

It's funny you saying that in your intro how close we are to completing the golf grip you are absolutely right when I used your direction on how to receive the club a total Game change and you right I am putting my thumb on the side of the grip and it does go left when I do that so I can't wait to play again and put that thumb on top of the grip right at about 6:00 I think that's what you were saying in your video when you said squish it I understand thanks for the tips you're a good teacher.

You’ve helped me go from misguided weak grip advice that I played with for 20 years! …. Last year you got me on the right path but I either sliced or hooked badly. I just didn’t understand where that thumb was supposed to be. As you mentioned in your video, I was receiving the grip but then would twist my hand around in order to get my thumb over there. Now I know this was the wrong move. I changed my grip according to the more clear advice and my hands got tired quickly (a good sign for me that this was something totally different) I stepped into the optishot simulator where I was hitting slice after slice even with an in to out path or a bad hook if I tried to really turn my hands around. THE SECOND!!! I corrected my grip position, I delivered 7 beautiful draws. My hands then got tired, I didn’t correct and I sliced again. Shook the hands out, re-gripped and again, drove another 4 little draws. Step by step, you help me become a better golfer. Being under 100 was a goal two years ago. This year, it’s to be under 85 every round with a round in the 70s once a week. Something I’m also learning right now is correct posture. From me and my golf, I’ve learnt about c and s posture. I learnt I have an s posture and moving my hips more neutral is as difficult as correcting the grip. But is getting easier. I’d love to see a video by you explaining good posture (balance over feet, how much knee bend should I have, how far should I bend over, and from the driver stance… I think I see a lot of people bend their spines sideways and not as the hips??) would love to see your take on posture. There’s so much golf content online, it can be hard to absorb it all. To help me with that, I prefer to get all my RU-vid coaching from one source MR SHORT GAME! Unless I can’t find what I’m looking for. Thank you for all the work you put in.

This is such an important nuance in the right hand grip. This is exactly why you see players “clinching” before they swing(Sergio, JT). I have a buddy that puts his right thumb behind the grip like that. He suffers from an occasional hook, because of it. The thumb being in that position feels powerful. I get it. However…. You should be using your index finger in that same manner. Trigger finger, you could call it. Very important to get this right. Great video.

I get that duck hook when I bail on my body rotation and let the arms and hand take over and shut the club face. 3 years ago my swing was all arm, hard for some habits to die. With my grip, I have started to envision I am wringing out a wet towel to lock my arms more stable and bring that hand palm pad over more. Nice to see a video reenforce what I've been trying to incorporate

I recently got back into golf and was able to get rid of the old horrible slice but I developed a little bit of a hook with longer irons that looks like a straight pull with the shorter irons. I never once thought about my trail thumb pressure closing the face at impact but that has got to be the main culprit. Moving that thumb feels so much better and I can feel the club "whip" a bit more.. can't wait to swing it and see the ball flight (started with it into the net this morning and already feels better).

I changed my grip because of you, and I was hitting my irons so much better then, all of a sudden, the last few months, I developed a hook. I wasn't sure what was causing it. I tried a loser grip, but that didn't really help. I'm super happy with my distance. Just need to correct the hook. I hope this is the cause. I'll check it out.

I fight a low hook, and today my instructor had me move my trail thumb from straight down to over to the side (like in this video) and wow - my club face went from being dramatically closed to fairly neutral. Basically the trail thumb and index finger don’t need to add much pressure at all in your grip. Huge for me.

Love the videos been watching regularly the last year or so…. I actually adjusted my right hand grip with my right thumb right of the golf pride logo (with stronger left hand grip) after seeing an IG video a couple months back and it’s helped me get much better hits with my irons and chipping better, not sure why but it has helped me out but I’ll try your new tip tomorrow. Thanks again!

MATT please help me, Everything you said I do especially the part about gripping real hard with your index finger & thumb because those are the only fingers I have on my right hand. I do have a middle stub 1/2 in long I'm sure puts a little pressure on the grip but pretty much useless. I'm not a great golfer & since my fingers were cut off I went from shooting in the mid 80's to the high 90's and that SUCKS for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I hate losing when I know I am just as good as the people I play against. Love the way you do your videos.
