For the shower glass: clean as usual, then use a car windscreen (windshield) product called Rainex. It is designed to make the water run off and not leave mineral deposits, for clear glass.

I have to diagree with you about the stainless steel sink. A good quality one is easy to keep clean & shiny. They are super durable too. Ive lived in homes with ceramic, stainless steel and some sort of plastic/formica sinks. By far the easiest to use & keep was the SS.

I totally agree. I have a black cast-iron kitchen sink very odd shaped and it’s Undermount. The bottom is so dull now and you can’t do anything about it except replace it and that means tearing out the granite which I can’t do. I would give anything had I bought a good quality stainless steel.

use cascade or jet dry on shower glass. Oven cleaner and a steel daddy can clean grout on some surfaces as well as stoves and fiberglass showers that are grimy. Stainess steel sinks are easy to clean, I like scrubbing bubbles and a magic eraser to clean or a scrub daddy and after you dry it polish it with some zep steel polish. Best tip I will give you that is not on this list is take down the ceiling fans, especially if you have pets that shed. Those fans will blow the fur everywhere on shelves, counters, etc. Take them down and the fur will only end up on the floors and any furniture they lay on.

The thing about stainless steel sinks is that they have to be made from a good quality of stainless steel. So a 14 gauge steel is MUCH thicker and more durable than a 22 gauge and will hold a shine much better. When I picked my new sink,the lowest gauge they had at Lowe’s was a 16, but I just wipe it out with a magic eraser and it’s still super shiny three years later.

Tips for cleaning your kitchen sink grates (removable) along with the grates on a gas stove…DISHWASHER! I’ve been doing this for years and it works like a charm. Just do a separate load with these items, and use regular old dishwasher pods. Also, I’ve washed grommeted curtains numerous times in my washing machine: just place each panel in a zippered laundry bag prior to washing.

Just agreeing on most of this!!! SS sinks are my favorite after having redone different 4 kitchens in last 30 years, and been in so many different rentals with different sinks. Your friend for your kitchen and many other areas of your home is Barkeeper,s Friend. Least favorite sink is white enameled sinks, one out of the 3 I have had was great,.. because it was made in 1920’s was large, wide and deep, and had amazing thick and super hard enameled coating, and at over 80 years old, had NO chips,was still white when cleaned with old fashioned Comet or Barkeeper’s Friend. The newer made white enameled sinks I have had are thin enamel, do not clean up back to pure white, and have chip, after chip after chip. Newer ones not as well made. Great video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

ummmm you can wash curtains with the grommet things lol I'm slowly switching mine out (styles/ trends have changed along with us renovating/redecorating) but I've had them for about as long as I can remember now. And while I dont wash them as often as I probably SHOULD (I wash them 3-4 times a year)... they just go in the washer! I dont put them in the dryer, just hang them back up (the weight pulls the wrinkles out). Theyve never rusted. Never caused any damage to any of the washers I've had (and I've had cheap ones to more expensive ones). The curtains themselves have all come from amazon and been varying levels of quality- from pretty nice to pretty cheap. But like I said- never an issue washing any of them. I would LOVE to have area rugs, but live on a farm thats covered in red clay, and have 7 dogs. I have no area rugs ;)

When I bought my house it had a stainless steel sink and I didn’t like it for the reasons you mentioned. I had grown up with and lived in homes with white enameled cast iron and loved the old fashioned look of them. However with Formica countertops the stainless drop in sink did have a much lower threshold to wipe water back into the sink. I originally was thinking about replacing the countertop and sink with stone/under mount farmhouse sink in fire clay or enameled cast iron. This was about 10 years after I bought the house. Someone said to me “You’re going to break a lot of glasses and dishes (especially since I do NOT have a dishwasher). Then it hit me that indeed I HAD broken lots of dishes in the places I had lived before and in the many years I’d lived in this house to that point I had never broken anything. This is the reason they are popular. No staining, gentler on dishes and more sanitary since they can’t chip. I’ve since gotten used to just wiping it out with a microfiber cloth after I do dishes. I plan to remodel in the future to change the layout, but now I’m planning on a stainless sink.
@tarynmaria_

That is so interesting! We have a granite sink and we've definitely broken a lot of dishes (glasses mainly) because of it!
@jf6636
@jf6636 2 месяца назад
Yep, you will definitely break dished in a non-stainless steel sink because they are more dense. Stainless is just thin steel that is more forgiving. I think stainless sinks are easy to keep clean (think Barkeeper's Friend). non-stainless sinks seem to get skuffs from pots and pans that need to be rubbed out.

I know you're not talking about outside, but your video made me think of this: I used to have those plastic chairs outside that you can buy everywhere. Every time I would turn them over to wash them, there would be a spider and his egg nest tucked into one of the nooks and crannies under the chair. I got rid of them and now have patio chairs that are coated basket weave. There are air holes now, so the spiders don't want to live there.

Sink grates don’t have to be metal. We have a silicone one that I throw in the dishwasher every other day and it cleans effortlessly. White grout, I have in the floor of my all-white shower. I had to remind myself constantly about this list as you forget and can get caught up in the design/looks aspect of it all. So far I don’t regret any of the choices I have made so far. A lot of things on your list are things I purposely avoided and knew I did not want for the reasons you stated. One thing I didn’t do and wish I did was plan my window coverings into the build. I live in an area that has hard water. I have stainless steel sinks in my kitchen. I use a sponge with a drop of dish soap to wipe the sink after dinner and follow with a sprayer with half white vinegar and half water then wipe with paper towel or microfiber cloth. Beautiful. Now and then I will wipe the sink with a minute amount of mineral oil after my cleaning routine I just described. I love the fact I don’t have to brush on porcelain fix paint after scrubbing rust off of my chipped porcelain sink. I did that for decades because the new porcelain sinks will always get chipped soon after replacing it. I am free! 😊

First, I enjoy cleaning. It releases stress and I enjoy a clean home. I do have glass shower doors, and I have absolutely no issues keeping them clean. We do have a water filtration system, so hard water and minerals are not an issue. Have white tiles floor in one bathroom, NEVER again! Have a stainless steel sink, and there is absolutely NO issue with keeping it clean and shiny. You wash your dishes and pots, and you take 1 minute to clean your sink. If anyone is having issues with keeping stainless steel sinks clean, that means they are NOT cleaning their sink (major gross and filled with germs).

I miss sitting in a relaxing, bubbling, massaging tub at the end of the day - it's so therapeutic! And for those who prefer a free-standing tub - what are you thinking?! First you're simply sitting in a bowl of water and then, then you have to clean not only the inside of the tub, but the outside of the tub, the floor behind and to the sides of the tub. #thanksnothanks

I’ve had gas and electric, will stick with electric. Hated cleaning grates! Love my glass cooktop. And unless you’re a gourmet chef, I can cook with electric just fine. You just have to get used to it. And I actually think gas isn’t healthy. The new rage is induction, but I don’t care for that either. It’s the same technology as a microwave. Didn’t care for a stainless steel sink in the kitchen either. It looks clean for one day! I know some people don’t mind cleaning their sink daily, but I don’t want to! 😅

@JamieM470
@JamieM470 2 месяца назад
@@ania7930 There's no reason for a curtain to be a horror lol, unless you never toss it in the washing machine. Liners are also washable but if they start wearing out you can replace them pretty cheaply. If you're obsessive about it like me, the best curtain hooks are the ones that have open hooks on both sides, so it's super easy and fast to hang and remove curtains and liners separately. You don't have to struggle to open and close hooks.

That's something you're going to need to do on a regular basis. Want to experience your own horror story? As others have mentioned, I much prefer stainless steel sinks to other kinds. My parents had an off-white porcelain sink that my mom was so excited to get, but after a few years regretted due to scratches, stains, dings, and things breaking so easily in it. With regard to cleaning, SS sinks are easy to keep clean using a sprinkle of baking soda and a drop of Dawn and a 20-second scrub. The kitchen sinks should be cleaned at least 1x/ day since it's where food is prepared and should be kept as clean as possible, regardless of what it's made of. Barkeepers' friends is great for tougher stains like rust, and I keep it on hand as well, but baking soda will take care of that too with a little extra elbow grease. I use baking soda on almost everything, grout, tub enclosures, grimy glass, outdoor furniture, etc. I buy it by the super size bag at Costco and keep some in every wet room (kitchen, baths, laundry) along with a pump bottle of Dawn.

On the topic of light fixtures, I have a light fixture over my island bench. It came with house so it’s not my choice. It’s a rectangle shape light with a strip light and glass. It is fixed in each corner of the glass with a wire to the ceiling. The slightest touch causes the wires to skew causing the light fixture to twist. It is uncleanable and I hate it. Being in the kitchen and it being glass, the cooking grease is terrible on the glass. I only clean it once every six months because once I touch it, it’s almost impossible to get it straight again. I have been looking to replace it but it’s not easy to find one that will fit the space and character of the room at a reasonable price. Sorry I won’t pay $600-$1000 for a light fixture.
