NEVER Listened to DERIVAKAT - Records of the SMP | REVIVED absolutely SLAPS!!

also, just a little explanation (spoilers for people who don't already know the plot): wilbur's character died after blowing up the nation, and he came back as a character called ghostbur. while ghostbur existed, the original wilbur was in limbo at the train station from the album cover of your city gave me asthma, the album of sad wilbur songs you've listened to before. dream's character used a book called the revive book on ghostbur in a desperate attempt to regain some power while locked away in prison, sending ghostbur to the limbo and bringing wilbur back to life. the song revived is from the point of view of revivebur, the line 'you should see the other guy' referencing ghostbur and the pain he's in as wilbur returns to the living. ghostbur was a beloved and wholesome character and definitely a fan favourite, so the idea of him being in pain is obviously heartbreaking. this song, revived, has all the train sound effects and station related lyrics linking to that story arc, and the anger shows the unpredictability of wilbur's character, as we've seen what he's capable of with the blowing up of l'manburg, and now that he's back we have no way of knowing if his claims of having changed are true or not. you probably just didn't need that whole paragraph but for anyone wondering, there's a bit of a long winded explanation :)

Im genuinely surprised that at this point he still doesnt know the dreamsmp lore... i mean he gets the story bc of the songs but i think he would be a lot more impressed with the lyrics and the sounds that these artists like derivakat put in the background and all of the meanings and little references...

When Wilbur died in the lore he went to his 'limbo' which was the Train station from Your City gave Me Asthmas cover art. Time moved differently there, which was only a few months for us, it was 13 years for him. And when Dream killed Ghostbur (Wilbur's ghost which took his place when Wilbur went to his limbo) and revived Wilbur, he came back basaas as ever, as 'Revivebur' who was thirsty for blood. Keep in mind kids. This is all from a minecraft server.

Derivakat is one of the most talented people. (And basically all singers, artists, animators from the dsmp community-)

Fun fact! The "siren" noise in the background of REVIVED is actually Derivakat vocalizing!! She wanted a sound there but she could find a good one, so she did it herself :)

The interesting and impressive thing is that she is able to tell a story or go for a feeling, and people get it. Like, Mathew knows next to nothing about the Dream SMP, yet he can understand that there is a war, backstabbing, betrayal, etc. all from her music.

Doomsday is actually written from the point of view of the people doing the destroying. They were/felt betrayed so they took their revenge by destroying everything.

"Something got destroyed" HAHAHA YOU NAILED IT! AND NOT SOMETHING, EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE

I'm pretty sure that the train in the background in Revived is a reference to the whole revival thing like a train from 'hell' bringing Wilbur back to the real world, or like his hell/limbo being a train station... I'm not 100% sure though

In terms of production for Revived almost all of the sounds you hear are train sound samples apart from the vocals and maybe the synth. Also the 'siren' you heard was Derivikat going 'WooWoooooooo' and adding reverb XD

I feel like REVIVED is better in the lyric video because the visuals really add a lot, you should check it out. On second thought, the art in the Why music video adds a lot as well.

About the song Why "Cant stand the rain, cant stand the pain" This of course is about how ghostbur melts in the rain and forgets negative things But also during doomsday(s) (it was more than a day) it was raining

Yeah, if you are planning on reacting to any more smp animatics, you should do late_august! They are by far my favorite animators and they include so many details in it.

Day 2 of asking Mathew to react to the soundtrack of Centaurworld, the new musical show on netflix. It's very very good, I picked out the songs that aren't spoilery, so they're safe to listen to without context. Rider's Lullaby Centaurworld Hello Rainbow Road Taurnado Fragile Things The Nowhere King (I recommend just listening to the audio when you go over this one, because while it's not spoilers, the scene will be more impactful when/if you eventually watch the show) I shall keep asking until it happens, i'm that determined.

Fun fact: That siren in the background at the end of Revived is Derivakat screaming into her microphone while her brother was in the same house because she couldn't find a siren sound to use. It was really funny to watch live on stream.

Honestly, when listening to revived, i feel like i'm on that hell train station.

Doomsday was actually always impeding, but it took a new meaning when Tommy betrayed Technoblade. Before, it was a means to end corruption and also a form of vengeance. But after Tommy's betrayal, it was interpreted as a warning, a message saying: This is what happens when you break my trust. Had Tommy not switched sides, the exact same events would've happened, maybe if postponed, but it would have a completely different meaning.

I will never understand how he gets the story almost exact, while vague, just by listening to the songs. I already know the story, and listening to the songs back I can understand from my end, but seeing as he's never actually looking into the Dream SMP lore, that we know of, and him getting this stuff so accurate is freaking amazing.

The trio you were talking about tells the story of Doomsday, aka the Third (Final) Destruction of L'Manberg. Doomsday is about how Dream, Philza, and Technoblade blow up the nation, and Why is the ghost of the founder Wilbur Soot, Ghostbur, lamenting how Phil broke his promise and how Ghostbur keeps having to pay for the mistakes of others

Hiya Mathew!! It’s over a year later now, and I think it would be *awesome* if you were to re-listen to these songs, because now that you know a good portion of the lore they would hit SO much harder, and understanding the lyrics just makes these songs even more phenomenal

"Why" is my favorite of the album and it being right after Doomsday in the order worked so well to contrast the two perspectives of Doomsday.

Derivikat actually did a stream 2 days ago, where she was making one of her own originals, and not dsmp song, called Eden (I might have spelled that wrong) And let me tell you... That song was awsome! And it wasn't even the finished version. Basically the song is about how your dating this guy, and he just doesn't get it. And its kinda a reference to the biblical story of adam and eve, but with a twist. When the full song is released, you'll definitely have to listen carefully bc for most of the stream she was recording some harmonies and some background sounds, that you'll really have to listen carefully to even hear it. Like, you know how musicians and basically anyone who works with music can hear really well and identify lots of things that ppl who don't work with music probably wouldn't pick up the first time? It's basically like that. One of the things derivikat said on stream about the song: "I don't smoke, but if I did, I'd probably listen to this song because like, it feels so free/ stress relieving" (I can't remember exactly what she said, but it was very similar to this. I remember her saying she doesn't smoke) So yhea, the song is very angelic like. I really like the fact that you don't know much about the plot for dsmp because we get to see how Derivakat's music holds, for people ouside of dsmp, story wise. Though I suggest watching the video for Revived bc the art for it makes the song 100x better. Love the videos!

You should listen to the amazing devil. They are very underrated but I love the unique style they have. Some of my favourite songs (in order: -farewell wanderlust -the horror and the wild -welly boots - unwanted animal

The background to Revived is supposed to emulate trains on tube tracks bc the character it's based on's purgatory was him trapped at a train station. and the clicking noise to Doomsday is tnt triggering from the rigging above the city the song is based on! The cool thing about Derivakat's songs for me is 100% the fact she incorporates cinematic aspects to her songs that are supposed to be reminiscent of the specific lore each song is based on, the style she chooses also tends to be affected by this too!

Two things: 1st - I can't remember if you've reacted to _Ain't No Crying,_ btw fire song if you haven't, but that song is about the same event as _Night Before Dawn, Doomsday,_ and _Why._ That event was Doomsday, the complete destruction of L'Manburg. Each are from different perspectives, _Ain't No Crying_ is about the citizens caught up in the fighting, _Night Before Dawn_ was technically written for the Pogtopia Era but works really well as the POV of the soldiers of L'Manburg the night before Doomsday, _Doomsday_ is from the POV of those destroying L'Manburg and explaining from both an objective and personal view why it was destined to fall, _Why_ was about a victim, an innocent bystander who's pet got caught in the crossfire and feels betrayed bc his father was one of those destroying his home. That was long, but I wanted to explain, and I always have to explain fully and properly lol 2nd - You should react to _Life by the Sea_ by Tubbo, he's one of the main people on Dream SMP and it's a banger, his first one too. He had help from CG5 and Dan Bull, I know you know CG5 and Dan Bull is a rap lyricist

The story: Night before dawn: Perparing for the war Doomsday:The war Why: The ghost of the man who built the thing which got destroyed Revived: The ghost is revived

Doomsday is kinda from the perspective of the one who *was* betrayed. "The Plagues" Animatic by WolfytheWitch is of the same battle. I really love how they flipped the context of the original song on it's head, making Ramses' voice the one heralding God's wrath.

i feel the song "why" is like a conversation between nikky and wilbur after he blows up lmanberg because of what he did and the fact that he left her in lmanberg and that stuff
