Loving this rig - No more lost lead weights. We did lose a big fish though...what could I have done better to keep it in the net? NEW Fisherman's Life Waterproof Jacket: www.fishermans...
Matt's is best with a friend or some company,, love these new ones, comes from the heart and brings the best of himself and those around him . Makes for incredible footage as well. Props to Matts🙏
@@Rob-ze1wi Agreed. As I am on your side. I believe all the vids are great , just at this stage I believe inviting guests on should be more often peppered into the content...
Hey Matt's. Keep up with the videos. I've been fishing (mostly the eastern Sierra's) for the past 58 years (I'm 68 now) and I just love the way you communicate. It's so down to the average fishing joe. Nothing fancy, big sponsors or everything looks so....prepared. Going to try off shore fishing and crabbing here in the pacific northwest thanks to you.
Hi mate, I love your videos and really look forward to watching the next one each time. Can I be so bold as to offer some advice on your netting technique? Try not to stab the net into the water like you did on the first fish. This scares the heck out of the fish and caused it to literally flip out and you have to try again like you did. Instead, submerge the net and let the fisher person guide the fish into the net from there. You’ll find they go in much more willingly. Tight lines!
By clearing all but the most necessary items on your back deck will give you much needed space. In other words, you got too much crap in the back of your boat.
Your jiggy jigs are amazing!!! Went kayak fishing this morning in Monterey and caught my limit on rockfish a cabezon and a small lingcod but still a lingcod on your jiggy jigs in 1 hour! Every cast the6 can’t resist the greenling color and the chrome flash
They all were great fish but the one Sean had get off at the boat was a beast! Salmon are such a beautiful species. I moved away from some great salmon fishing in port angeles Washington and that’s the only thing I miss about that place. I’ve noticed you have much bigger ones in the Bay Area. I will never forget my first and only 20lber!!!
Big respect for the water in hand. Alchohol is toxic it destroys people's lives and hurts to the very core I'm glad you are above that bro ! Great video. Was fun hanging out
I think netting the fish head first is the best method that way if they swim forward it’s into the net. Great trip and I am almost convinced to use the deep six rather than weight release. It’s just tough to get deep with the deep six.
We never chased the fish with the net. Dad would just slide the net right straight down over the side and we would bring the fish nose first into it. Another thing I have been noticing the fish do not seem to fight on the surface. The best part of catching it, was the top water fight. My biggest deep sea salmon was a 48 lb rooster Chinook take on a fillet of herring, we never used all of that extra gear. Our boat was never cluttered, just us, the rods, net and gaff. My largest catch was landed using 15 lb mono, double Eagle Claw 0/1 hook and 80 lb steel leader and enough weight to take it to the bottom. The fish weighed in at 94.5 lbs was 76 inches long, 4 longer than I was tall back then. Took me nearly 45 minutes to land it. It was a blue shark, the fourth largest landed that year. I was 16 at the time, in early 1968.
Oh man! 13:40 mark. I feel your pain! Had a bad flash back from a couple years ago. Looked exactly what happened to me but the fish was so big and went sideways and didn’t fit then popped off🤦🏻♂️ keep up the awesome work!
Those are some beautiful fish I felt that gut punch with you guys on that other one but we've all had those moments your a good sportsman and glad I reccomend you to my friends and family tight lines my man shout out from southern oregon!
Rod tip up of the fish is deep and ideal, rod tip to the side of the fish is near the surface and you don’t want them jumping was how I do it. Thumb on the line in front of the reel for the added 1-2 extra pounds of drag to lift the fish into the net.
I don't know if would have helped in your particular situation, but sometimes I like to get down on my knees when I'm netting a fish. I'm kinda a taller guy (6'1") and in smaller boats sometimes the leverage and balance of being down on your knees will allow you to hang your upper body over the rail and get more net in the water.
Great video as always Matt's. I stop what I'm doing to take it in! Would you consider doing 360 video? That'd be cool. I don't know about y'all but I always fight them sideways and until I'm ready to net them I lift vertically. I think the vertical pull tends to freak them out more. Losing a fish at boatside always hurts but you still got a limit. 👍🏼🤙
#Lezgoooo , and @ 16:06 I'm a gonna get me a jacket , thanks Matts , I remember I asked you about them when you were on your trip to Mexico last year so , good to know buddy , 🤝🏼
If you ever find yourself in Ontario, Canada, I would enjoy fishing with ya. Can take you out on lake Ontario for some nice fish. Then, Erie for walleye. I've always wondered how your techniques would work here. For sure I'd have to try that cable baiter
Dang, wishing I was your neighbor. The bite will be on for me September 1st. for Steelheading on the Snake River, (Ice Harbor Dam). Need those waterproof jackets for the Philippines 🇵🇭.
have the netter stand at the stern, bring the fish to the bow, walk back from the rail with the rod to bring the fish closer, and let the netter catch the fish as it skims by the side of the boat
Knew that last one was gonna be a miss. Knew Matt had to be the guy catching the last limit one since this is his show. This is so staged lol A successful day indeed. Gotta love it
Awesome video thanks 👍 also can you please tell us what anti seasickness meds you use again? I tried looking back through the old vids but couldn't find it.... Thanks again Be Happy be Safe and tight lines!!!
Can you do a tutorial video on how to use the deep six diver ? I have watched a couple of them on RU-vid and normally everything fishing kinda clicks for me but the videos contradicted each other . I used it one day and it seemed like it was working but the last time I tried to use it on my kayak if I didn’t paddle super slow my lure would just pop up . Now IM at the point we’re I’ve bought every kind of diver because I don’t see how I put a downrigger on a non fishing kayak
