Never miss another shot! My Street Photography go to settings!
Check out F/8: bit.ly/337Qrpo
Fabiens Channel: bit.ly/3o9afCh
In this video I talk about my settings for street photography. They are not the best settings for everyone but they work perfect for the style of shooting I do - freeze the action and capture great depth of field.
Before I take a single image I always check my Fujifilm X100V is set up with my go-to settings for street photography. This means i never need to worry about my camera settings at all. Im guaranteed to get the image sharp and perfectly exposed, every time!
An old and time served principle is 'f/8 and be there'. This is how I shoot and it pretty much guarantees your images to be in focus!
Theres nothing more frustrating than returning to your computer after a street photography trip to find your images are exposed incorrectly or are out of focus. Try my go to street photography settings next time you are out and about with your camera, i bet you don't go back to auto!
Street photography in London is always a mega fun day! with amazing architecture and so many fun looking and quirky people around your guaranteed some fantastic street photography.
If you enjoyed this POV street photography video please subscribe and ill see you on the next one!
Thank you for watching! i hope you enjoy my channel. If you do id love it if you could subscribe.
If you'd like information on a photography workshop, be it street photography or landscape, do email me and we can sort that out.

Thank you Gareth, I’d mentioned in response to a previous video for a settings one. True to your word you said you would talk us through how you set up your camera for street photography. Very useful for me as a novice to know where to start. Loved the walkabout with Fabian too, nice fella funny too.

a bit of clarification - expose not just for the "brightest part of the scene" (newbies can take it literally and use a street light, for example), but for specular lights, then, depending on weather/time of day add 2-3 stops. respect for ettr advice, many "pro" photographers still think it's a blasphemy (usually they also believe in "exposure triangle")...

@GarethDanks
@GarethDanks 3 года назад
You have full control and KNOW what your settings are. Plus your telling your camera what to meter for. Instead of it doing an auto exposure which can’t possibly know what your trying to achieve. Also that when you make mistakes, YOU are to blame which means you can learn and not blame the camera. 😊👍🏻

Hi Gareth, could you please explain something for me as I’m new to this. When setting the 2mtr or infinity, say for two mtr you roughly place camera at that distance (pavement) then press and release back button focus. Does that not just keep focus set on pavement not subject?
@GarethDanks
@GarethDanks 3 месяца назад
You’re just using the pavement to set distance mate. It’s not in afc mode. It’s just going to meter focus to that distance. You just press af on once.

So far I've only taken photos for myself, but I'd also be interested in doing a blog. How do you deal with the publication rights of the people you photograph? Do you ask them for permission after taking the photo, or do you get something in writing? After the new EU data protection rules, this has all become even more difficult.

@@GarethDanks That's interesting, I didn't know that it's so relaxed in UK, I should plan a photo-trip there. We distinguish between photographing and publishing and the rules are very strict and also complicated. As a private person, I am allowed to photograph everything, even people on the street, but as soon as I want to publish their pictures somewhere (even on my own site), I have to ask them for permission, because we have the right to one's own image. There are exceptions in certain cases for the press and artistic work.

@@GarethDanks Your own video shows how you missed shots and kept changing settings including f values and focusing in changing light or anticipating subjects. But more to the point is that your advice for beginner...well I think its more approach to practice for skills development than a gold standard. There a multitude of ways to do it, but I think your approach probably more reflects your environment and personal style. @GarethDanks
@GarethDanks 3 года назад
Hi there thank you for your comment. When in manual mode the camera will not focus on the shutter so it is fully manual in that regard though because I have assigned that AFL button it can be auto focus only while pressing that button in manual focus mode. Some photographers leave it in manual focus even when they are holding down the back button as a continuous focus option if that makes any sense. You can also assign the AFL button to be single focus or continuous focus on most cameras. But yes you are correct when you press that button and point to the floor or a building in the distance you are in fact auto focusing
@maxbashyrov5785
@maxbashyrov5785 3 года назад
it's a feature of some (?) Fuji cameras - while in "manual" you can still use autofocus, there's a setting in menus which enables this (yes, it's confusing, I know).
