48 laws of power is a heavy book. It can be used for good and for bad. The good side is to avoid traps set by cunning and manipulating people and to avoid or to deal with them. The bad can be used to do the opposite which is manipulation of people, stealthy tactics, lying, cheating and thinking outside the box. The best thing about the book is that it uses historical references and stories to cement why the specific law works or is required to be followed. So the laws work as it's got proof to reference to it.
@FeelingYoung-x9d
@FeelingYoung-x9d Год назад
This first law....maybe only applies to mob movies. Or.. when u just getting started in something and u act like u above them. In this case... your boss. But if I make it early on by pure luck or well.. by working smart not hard, then what.. I should lay down and not pass my boss and be no 1? I should work for someone all my life when I can have my own building? I am better music producer then my idol and mentor but I should treat myself like im not better always gave them credit? Hell no... we only live once if i can be king of the world im gonna be that... and that doesn't mean I should hurt someone or make someone feel bad. Who made all these rules? I can show love and respect my boss while sitting above him and even send him money every month right 😂 now for me that's better perspective. Respect ones who u working for but if u can feel ur growth and talent and stuff happened... and u outshine that person then.. don't feel bad. Let that "boss" be your worker.

Been watching your content for a while Michael. The way you talk, behave and react in conversations, it all resembles my former boss and my dad. Both of them in the absolute top of their fields. They both had a public side, that would communicate very carefully and never show their "hand" so to say. They would talk just as much as required and rest of the time you could see they are in a way gathering information. They wouldn't openly argue in a group setting with someone if they disagreed, but let the other person talk. Their private sides were relentless in anything they did, and things would go their way by force if not otherwise. This is just an observation. Thought it's interesting how these characteristics pop up in very different settings and on the other side of the globe

Selective honesty can be a powerful tool & you can use simple psychology to make it work. Saying to someone "I wouldn't tell anyone this, but seeing as it's you, it's ok, I know you won't repeat it" & impart some useless information to them, can be surprisingly effective. They will concentrate on what you said about them, not the information & it makes them feel special that you chose them. It's a good way of making allies & you will get information off them that may be useful.

Wherever I sit is the head of the table. Great point. When I ran my organization, I would sit in a non dominant chair position and watch to see if anyone made a point to take the so-called head position. They thought they had gained some advantage, but they just gave away a lot about themselves. Had to fire a woman who was full of herself, and she pulled that thinking she would dominate the discussion. She was going to be fired at the end of it, so sit wherever you want……….

You know my mother didn't have much education but the sayings you brought up is ehat she drilled in out hedd from s young age. Such as keep your friends vlose but your enemies closer. That one served me well in my working years. Ireated them wel even though I knew they taslked behind my back,but never said a word. My supervisor who I knew as a friend before I joined his dept. was one of them, and I could have hung jim out to dry many times, but didn't. Also when the CEO and other executives started sending accolades to the head of my dept. I gained his respect as well as my supervisor and my coworkers. But I never bragged about the extra perks or envelopes of cash at Christmas time asa thank you from them I was a lowly security officer that didn't make much money, but getting a dollar more an hr was a big deal for me! When football season came the CEO would give me his tickets and his private parking pass where the VIPs parked. That eas s big deal! Here in the south football is everything! Ehen I retired they had a party and gave me a paque that commended me for my imtegrety, loyalty and work ethic that I set a great example for others! I always gave 200 percent even when I was only making minimum wages. By the way I worked at a very big Hospital in SC where security officers are a dime a dozen!😂 The turnover rate is horrible because of pay. I stayed for 23.5 years. And the told me if I ever wanted yo come back I would be hired right away, at 67 years old and a woman at that! I jad to retire because my husband had just been told he had 4 mos. To live. After 43 years I wanted to spend every last minute eith him,! By the way, I started at age 43.Oy eas scary to start a new professionaln at my age but I dd I did it ! I now have a pension that supplements my social security also. Life is what you make it!

I love this book…my favorites, avoid the unhappy and unlucky…and make it look easy, whatever it is, make it look effortless because if it looks hard it diminishes the accomplishment. Chazz you not mentioning it to the critic is an Invisible Act of Power, Caroline Myss, another favorite book of mine. To your sit down question, for me as a boss, it’s easy, my litmus test…is this a mistake or a pattern? People beat themselves up enough on mistakes, I don’t need to address, but patterns require a “come to Janice” meeting. ❤

As an example about the lying... don't ask your husband if this outfit makes me look fat (he will probably lie to protect your feelings) ask what do you think about this? Or what I say to mine... is this a yes or no...he will normally say not my favorite or that looks really good on you. The example you gave about a person lying to protect their kid...it would depend on what they did and then they would still have to face some kind of consequence to learn right from wrong.

The 48 laws of power is just watered down Machiavelli. Just read the prince. The whole “ don’t outshine the master” is a paraphrase of “ he who is the cause of another becoming powerful is ruined. This is because that success has been brought about either by cleverness or by force, and both are distrusted by the person who has been raised to power.”
