In the episode, we beat the summer heat by doing a DIY install of an air conditioner in our teardrop camper. Being a tiny trailer with very little floor space, we picked up a Climateright 2500 to cool things down. We also show a very cool diy air conditioner in a diy teardrop that's super cool! Pun intended! If you want to stay cool while camping this summer, watch this one!

Another great video Michael. Man, you're making me famous. Seriously I am honored you have interest in my little projects. The diy a/c has undergone some evolutionary improvements since you did the video. I still use it. One thing I might add about the ClimateRight unit. They came with duct hose & fittings but it is my understanding they were cumbersome and not high quality. Most people did what you have done and use sewer hose. Look forward to our next camping adventure. It's always a great time.

I modified a window unit, I had to add a blower fan on the return and I wrapped the cold air hose in reflectix, taped with true duct tape, was able to keep my unit 80 when it was 100 plus in direct sunlight

Just found you channel and loving the content. I have a climate right like this. I used sewer hoses like this also. But what I did was used the wall shelf bracket and set it up to use the fender as support and set my unit on it. Was able to make my hoses much shorter and keeps the unit off the ground.

One my DIY system I found that the fans do not move enough air. So I added inline duct fans to give the air circulation a boost and it helped greatly.

Great video as always. Look into like kitchen vent hose, they're smoother on the inside as they're made to flow air. Also flexible because they are replaced rather than cleaned with all the grease coming from frying pans etc. It would improve airflow and lower the noise. Aluminium lined and more often white outer colout. Google kitchen vent hose. Thanks again for sharing your build.

I really like this design. Right now I'm focused on just getting my rig built (just glued up the interior plywood onto the walls) but this is so cool and I love that you can choose to leave the AC behind if you're not going to need it. I laughed way too hard at the babe ruth joke. I'm glad no one was around to hear me snort.

Easiest way to shield your sewer hoses would probably be to use flexible metal foil dyer duct over top of it. It would expand and contract with the sewer hose.

That’s awesome. I have a setup like Edwin’s. Some things I did to make it perform better was to put it on a table to get the unit as close to wall connections. That allows you to shorten the hose and expose less hose to sun. Also, I put a bilge blower in-line on one of the hoses. It moves air significantly better. AC fan isn’t meant to move air through hoses and angles. Bilge blower does come with a noise penalty but worth it. (By the way, I bought one of those spring punches because I saw it in one of your old build videos. Use it all the time.)
@CampandCamera
@CampandCamera 2 года назад
I’m gonna take your tip of elevating the unit and shortening the hoses. The punch tool is frequently used around my shop!

they make 4 inch insulate heat duct hoses, not only is the sewer hose black but its too long and its got too much surface area, think of it like an old radiator, all those cool looking expansion rings are cooling loss surfaces.

They make a HVAC wrap you can put around your hoses and it helps tremendously. I had that same unit but up graded to the big brother one because the condenser leaked around the copper 90s. With insulated hoses and the bigger unit I had my teardrop stay at 60 inside when it was 104 outside. For the wrap measure the outside diameter of your hoses and there is a insulated wrap that will fit.

When heating a space, heat down low and reserc up high. When cooling reverse it. Cool up high and reserc low. You need the move the air where you need it. Hot rises and cool drops.
