Wow stumbled across your videos tonight regarding your Hiker. I love how informative they are. This AC vid is spot on. I purchased a Teardrop this summer myself and I got the 2500 Climarite, I am learning a lot from you. Thanks!! The not having the remote work from the inside is a bummer. I haven't tried the heat feature out yet either.

I’ve been looking at the same AC they have an optional accessory for about $50 that is a wired thermostat. I really want to add this AC to my build but I worry every where they are sold the climate right coolers get terrible reviews.

It might be possible to modify your A/C to plug in an IR receiver, and then it's just a matter of installing said receiver into the wall of the camper to relay control signals to the unit outside. It would mean a new hole and a wire, but you could control the A/C from inside.

I think it works great, definently needed for added comfort while camping. They should have designed a more lighter unit that can lay flat across the camper instead of on top of the storage box. I would suggest a wall mount or perhaps building a rack to hold the unit.

I would recommend to lightly wrap the hoses with an ace bandage then pour water on them. Maybe even plastic food wrap over it. When you are done recycle the plastic wrap then hang dry the ace bandage and re use. Maybe in this way the full potential of the air conditioner will be taken advantage of. Please try then post.👍

Airgun Nuub we thought of this and honestly in 25 nights have have used the air once. The max fan is amazing. The other thing I read is the built in cabinet units are fragile and don’t handle wash board roads well. There have been reports of condensation issue water leaking back in to the cabin cause water damage to cabinets. And over heating. Each manufacturer has to decide to build it in and charge more or let the customer decide on ac or not. I personally don’t want the built in ac taking up cabinet space inside for the few times I use it.

Tina Daniels , no the AC has too big of a draw for solar
@twoweary

Why would you “have” to have shore power to run the AC ? I haven’t done the math ( ohm’s law stuff), but I would bet 2 batteries would run a small unit for 24 + hours, a few hours at a time. Nice walk around.👍

The unit should be turned around the other way as to not block the hot air coming out of the condenser.

You stated shore power but you didn't state generator. Your unit showed 1300 watts. Most generators could easily run that for boondocking.
@MWDAdventures

First let me thank you for this video nobody explains this system. just a couple of questions anad a comment, if I may 1st. does the unit itself come from hiker? 2nd. can you have the cold air come in either side, with a small mod of vents inside? 3rd. will it fit in the tool box for travel? 4th. can a small Honda generator power it if your off grid? 5th. do u get condensation dripping down the inside wall below the vent? Comment #1. Have you thought of moving it to the ground, off the tool box, and simplify getting extension hose from Lowes? Comment #2. I agree with u about the remote not working from inside the hiker, almost a deal breaker for me... Again that you very very much for this.
@MWDAdventures
@MWDAdventures 4 года назад
When I purchased the trailer then dropped ship it to my house . It comes from Climate Rite which I believe is OHIO. 2. If switch the hose around you can have the cold air come in to which ever vent you want. It will not fit in my Large box that I purchased. You would have to check with Hiker if they make a box big enough for that. There are several hiker members on the private hiker facebook page that have modified their box to make it permanent in there toolbox. I believe it could but you would have to check with climate rite on that. No condensation inside .

Hi. Typically A/C units only run off shore power. If no shore power then, you need a generator. Generator should be able to put out enough power to power the A/C. But, the A/C unit in the Matt's video should only need a 2000 watt inverter generator.

5000 BTU for that little space? Don't they make one with less as that is complete overkill?? 1500 BTU would be fine and use less power.

Yeah, due to tariffs supposedly, that unit is not being made currently. Hiker Trailers is working on an alternative that would hook up the same way......but it is not currently available.
