Love my Ego self propelled lawnmower and my Ego line trimmer with automatic line loading so today I bought the 18 inch chainsaw and plan to start using tomorrow, July 16, 2020! I’m greatly encouraged by your video!

The 16" is a consumer/ home owner saw. If you will check the specs on the 18"; power, 5 Ah battery, rpms (11,000), plus the full-size and full thickness 18" Oregon bar and chain, it is actually a farm and ranch saw if not a small comercial saw. I have done some tree wok working with a pro and the 18" is perfect for working up in the tree and also for limbing on the ground. Paul from Texas

I bought the Ego lawnmower a couple of years ago and I'm a believer - nothing beats that battery system! This past year I bought the 24" hedge trimmer and man, that's a beast! The balance is a bit off with the 5Ah lawnmower battery but it'll run all day...

Hi guys. Love your stuff. I own an EGO weed whip. Have only had it for about 2 months. Bought it to replace a Husqvarna weed whip that was about 5 years old. Was a very good brand also but finally gave out. This EGO weed whip is amazing so I can only imagine what the chainsaw will be. I have a small lawn care business and use it everyday. Keep up the great reviews. Dave

Home Depot has dropped EGO and Lowe's has picked them up! EGO is on another level compared to gas and other battery brands.....so much power, no mixing or pouring gas and no pulling a cord to start the dang thing!! I replaced my gas string trimmer with an EGO and went right back and replaced my gas blower and hedge trimmer as well they're THAT GOOD!!! I'm so excited for their 2 stage SNOW BLOWER!!!

worked with a guy doing land surveying who ran a chainsaw for years for the US Forest service, he liked the ego electric saw a lot too. We used it to cut lines for our traverses. Pack 4 batteries with us in the woods and run it on stuff too big for machetes and it would run all day. Same thing, other than sharpen it and add bar oil. They just go.

I’m awfully hard on tennis shoes and apparently chainsaws too. Is there a compatible bar for the ego 16” ? Mixed reviews on Amazon. Some say Oregon 16” is and some say it isn’t. One says you gotta have the tension completely gone just to get the compatible chain on it. But that it works. The bar that is recommended and comes with it, just blows. It’s not durable enough to get stuff done.

Just wanted to say, i work in an underground mine, the mine purchased 2 new egos to replace our plug in style chain saws. I remember seeing them and thinking how cheap they looked, and how much they would never work in our environment. You have to think, its wet, dirty as hell, and very very hard on tools. I could not have been more wrong. I just finished a timber project with an ego 14" saw, cutting 10X10's and 3" thick varies width boards. Even ripping some 10' long, 3" thick. I have to say, if that saw can survive what we, as underground miners, put any equipment through, and come out, just as good as it went in, I'm sold. We cut literally all day long, cycling between 3 different batteries. It never let us down. They charge fast enough that if you even have 2 batteries, you wont run dead, as long as one is charging. Its not constant cutting, but its steady, for 11 hours shifts, days and nights, so it basically ran 22 hours a day for a 2 weeks straight. They were even running their original little kid safety chains. and as long as its kept sharp, the battery lasts pretty good. I probably wouldn't go out and cut a load of firewood with one, simply because i wouldn't have anywhere to plug the charger into, but I really think they would be absolutely ideal for your offroad rig, ATV SXS etc. Even cutting camp wood, i would have no problem leaving the gas saw at home going camping and packing on of these instead. plus, you would never have to worry about getting your saw started. Just pull the trigger and cut...without ear protection. Of coarse, they don't have the grunt, or the longevity of a plug in saw, and definitely don't carry a candle to an air powered saw as far as power goes, but the one thing they don't have is a cord, or stiff air hose. it allows you WAY more freedom. In a place where a gas powered saw would simply kill you, EGO is the go-to. Those poor plug in saws are just simply retired at this point. I will be purchasing one for my jeep soon, as an easy, quick, tree remover. Cuz damn, I'm impressed.

Just used it to trim a snapped and hanging 6" oak branch at an RV Resort. Luckily, I am very aware of vine poison ivy because it was wrapped all around the tree and if you didn't know poison ivy you would have thought the leaves were oak. The plant has a bark-like exterior and blends into the oak. Vines went way up tree. "Leaves of three, let it be." Then I have a downed 3' thick oak and started cutting off 12" limbs. Ego went through it like butter.

I’ve NEVER seen a climber use a hard hat. Ever. I’d probably laugh at one if I saw it.

I've been climbing for 43 years. Back in the day, maybe 20 years ago and more, we were pretty lax about PPE. Since then, I NEVER climb, go up in a bucket, or work on the ground without all my PPE, including a hard hat. I'm a certified arborist for many years, and have been around the industry my entire adult life. I strongly recommend wearing head protection and in fact it's required by osha and ANSI standards.

No word on operating time, likely no good for me. For the property owner who finds themselves cleaning up after a storm, this will always be ready to grab and go without the worry mixing gas or having it go stale. If you cut firewood, it's just as well to keep a smaller gas model around. This tging is $400 cdn at my local Home Depit and it has a 2Ahr battery. Its twice as expensive as a Stihl MS170.

I really wanted to like this chainsaw. I just picked one up at Lowes. Fully charged it and went to work. It does great with little stuff and cuts the big stuff so well, but the battery didn't last long. I cut for maybe 20 minutes before the chainsaw ran out of juice. When I tried to recharge it, it was too hot, so I had to wait a long time. I'm returning mine tomorrow unfortunately and sticking with gas for now. I also had an issue where it would stop working in the middle of a cut, and I needed to remove the battery and then reinsert it. It would then work fine for five minutes.

I bought one from Amazon on November 8th. I had to send it back for a replacement. Got the replacement on November 27th. Sending replacement back today for full refund. A cut which should have been 5 seconds took me 20 minutes. Ego customer support is useless if you are within 30 days of your purchase date. Your only option is to return it.

I have one of this and it is not even close to what the Echo 58v can do. If I gave a Echo 58v a 10 then this one is only a five. The echo spins so fast that you can use it as a hedge trimmer, it can cut any thing you throw at it, even the tip of the tiny little branches. this one does not spins as fast so it can only cut big branches. I have Ego 14" and 18" and 2.5 AH, 5AH, and 7.5 AH. but nothing can compare to the echo 58v 4AH

That is a really good electric saw. I previously had a cheap electric saw, which couldn't cut crap. I would personally stick to gas, but then again i am crazy about gas and only want gas powered tools. I recently picked up a 1987 ECHO 330 EVL at a garage sale for 10 dollars. This dude had like 3 other saws he was selling. He told me "i just buy a saw and when it stops working, throw it in the corner and buy a new one". I took the echo home, and it started right up. Just needed a bit of starting fluid, and the old stale gas dumped out and fresh gas. Started sluggishly, but then a little carb mixture screw adjustment, and it runs like new! I also have 9 weedwackers, 4 leafblowers, a hedge trimmer, 3 standalone 4 stroke engines (2 1960's/70's briggs 3hp horizontals, and a 3 1/2hp Tecumseh from a 1970 minibike) and a 1970 minibike that i put a brand mew predator 212 on. Most of these engines are from the curb being trashed, or neighborhood friends gave me them, all of which i am going to fix up and bring back to life. I absolutely love working on gas engines, so the engine maintenance to me is not a chore. But once again, that is a pretty damn good electric saw. Even has bumper spikes!!! Now another reason i prefer gas is because over the years, the battery will start to lose battery life (a full charge will start to last shorter and shorter as years go by).

If you want your ego batteries to last then follow these simple tips: Do not store them in cold temperatures during winter months and if you plan on storing your ego batteries for more than few weeks then store them at 30-40% charged capacity. It's not good to store them fully discharged or fully charged. Ego batteries themselves have a built in feature that if not used for 30 days they will initiate self discharge which will slowly discharge the battery but produce some heat in the process. Also, try not to use them when they are down to 15% or below on charge. This will cause battery cells to heat up more than usual. Also if you use larger batteries in equipment that draws a lot of current (leaf blower, chainsaw, self propelled mover) keep an eye on battery temperature, batteries will get very hot during continuous use on a very hot day. I have ego mover (steel deck), leaf blower, weedwacker, 14" chain saw and 18" chain saw. I love all of it. 14" saw is light and maneuverable for trimming branches off but oil leaks out during storage (I did cut a tree that was 24" at the bottom, slow but got it done). 18" saw is a different beast, a lot more power.

I have the Stihl Chaps and chainsaw shirt for My MS 261cm. One of the things it says on the manual is that the chaps arent effective against electric chainsaws because of the torque outputs from their motors. Is there another brand out there that works with the newer electric saws?

Are you asking for a brand of safety protection that is matched to the torque of an electric chainsaw? Assuming the safety brake trips then this EGO 18" is arguably safer since all power is instantly cut off to the motor, so maybe faster to stop.
@shauncatlett6066
@shauncatlett6066 4 года назад
@@14lou Yes, that is what I trying to ask. I wanted to know if they were chaps out there geared specifically to electric chainsaws. The chainbrakes are effective on ANY chainsaw, so how would the EGO be safer than a gas powered or corded electric saw?
@14lou
@14lou 4 года назад
@@shauncatlett6066 Even just a millimeter or two extra travel before coming to rest could cause greater injury, which is more likely if braking under power, a factor that can be avoided electrically. This is just speculation on my part and I don't know of any tests to prove that, just the physics and logic.
